Passing through different stages from conventional one to strategic service, HRM has transformed its concept, content, philosophy and scope of services affecting the way of understanding and role of the HR function in the organization. Becoming one among most important organizational functions, HRM was transiting from reactive function, over independent function towards the integrative and supportive function. This paper is aimed in contributing to the better understanding of contemporary challenges of HRM function and HR services in organizations, analysing various concepts and describing development and nature of different aspects and recent approaches to the HRM in terms of their influence to achieving and maintenance of organizational business strategy and competitive advantage. In that sense, the objective of the paper is to provide the overview of HRM contemporary challenges, and assess its impact to modern organization in context of organizational performance and organizational effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":223617,"journal":{"name":"Strategy Models for Firm Performance Enhancement eJournal","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123550750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An analysis of personality traits highlights the effects of policies related to gender equality, allocation of research time and skills acquisition. It improves our understanding of the conflicts related to scientists’ perceptions of the impact of their research on beneficiaries. For example, conscientiousness increases the perceived impact on clinical beneficiaries, but reduces the perceived impact on industrial beneficiaries. Organizational scientific freedom increases the effects of personality traits on perceived impact on beneficiaries such that scientists affiliated to a university are less likely than colleagues working in other research settings to perceive the simultaneous impact of their work on both industrial and clinical beneficiaries.","PeriodicalId":223617,"journal":{"name":"Strategy Models for Firm Performance Enhancement eJournal","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125733455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Management practices in South Korea had traditionally emphasized the organizational harmony over individual performance, and firm growth over short-term profits. However, as South Korea opened up to foreign firms after the financial crisis, domestic firms started to adopt western or more ``modern\" management practices. Using the industry level variation in management practices generated by the average industry management index of five advanced economies (the US, Britain, France, Germany, and Italy), I find that modern management increases the demand for technical skill. Moreover, modern management practices help achieve various organizational changes that utilize information technology. I also find that performance measured as the return on asset increases with modern management practices, and document the complementarity between modern management practices and technical workers in increasing the return on assets. In short, this paper finds that modern management practices may increase the earnings difference between skilled - in particular, technically skilled - and unskilled workers.","PeriodicalId":223617,"journal":{"name":"Strategy Models for Firm Performance Enhancement eJournal","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125309890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study explores the types of linkages that SMEs located in Metro Manila have forged with large firms, including how these linkages started, their advantages, and disadvantages. The paper also explores the nature of competition between SMEs and large firms, the effect of such competition on SMEs, and how SMEs overcome the disadvantages of small size. \u0000The research methodology is descriptive. Key informant interviews with six owners and managers of SMEs involved in construction, trading and services were conducted. They were asked about the details of their engagement with large firms, the nature and effect of competition against large firms, and to cite, if there are any, government programs that helped them create or sustain linkages with large firms. \u0000Interviews revealed that SMEs have forged forward and backward linkages as well as formal partnerships with large firms. Through these linkages, the SMEs can access inputs, technologies, technical expertise, market information, and marketing support. Competing with large firms has its benefits and disadvantages, but it has mostly exerted pressure on SMEs to improve their production processes, their products and services, or distribution and marketing channels.","PeriodicalId":223617,"journal":{"name":"Strategy Models for Firm Performance Enhancement eJournal","volume":"51 18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132731107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper explores the short-term and long-term investment attractiveness through ‘consumer centric decision’ approach in two selected pharmaceutical companies, Renata Limited and Orion Pharma Limited, of Bangladesh over the last three years’ period. This research adopts a systematic approach which primarily addresses the various concerns of investors to illustrate the decision-making process of the existing and future investors. Using primarily domestic transaction data, this study explores how the leading pharmaceuticals companies of Bangladesh effectively use the wide array of drug portfolios mix with appropriate branding techniques to increase their financial profit and market share simultaneously. Both SWOT analysis and Porters Five Forces Model explore the business analysis of Renata Limited in compare to Orion Pharma Limited that provides a conclusion regarding investors’ decision to invest in Renata Limited. Considering the financial analysis, Renata’s financial liquidity is not very satisfactory and could have been improved further if management is prudent on financial strategy settings. Findings of the business analysis indicate that Renata Limited would be a good investment choice for existing and prospective shareholders based on its opportunities for long term and short term growth and further expansion in developing the market. The results suggest that even lower liquidity coupled with higher interest borrowings can be balanced by posing positive picture to the public shareholders by returning the positive dividend to them.","PeriodicalId":223617,"journal":{"name":"Strategy Models for Firm Performance Enhancement eJournal","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130387265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When companies implement lean-management, they are often faced with a broad range of barriers such as top-management resistance, slow response to market change, etc. Inasmuch as in near future we will expect Industry 4.0, planning horizon gradually changes. To overcome the new challenges at the company, we propose to use the combined approach foresight and lean manufacturing. It will allow companies to set aim and goals not only a period of 10-15 years, but also to bring all the details to the operational level, therefore every employee will aware of in which direction the company is moving. Based on a review of theoretical and methodological approaches and the investigation of the implementation experience of lean-management and foresight approach taking into account conditions of trends in Industry 4.0, human and time resources. The present paper intends to provide the conceptual basic for testing the developed model later.","PeriodicalId":223617,"journal":{"name":"Strategy Models for Firm Performance Enhancement eJournal","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116790361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
