This paper extends the concept of a discrete companion branch equivalent of the nodal approach to state-space described systems, and enables natural coupling between them. The flexible clustering of state-space described electrical subsystems into a nodal method has the following advantages: first, the nodal admittance matrix can be constrained in size while still permitting the solution of a switched network by nodal admittance matrix on-line triangularisation. Also, each group can have a precalculation of all internal modes (caused by switches, for example) within itself, an important feature for real-time applications. Secondly, the state-space formulation enables the use of higher-level discretization methods with L-stability properties. Finally, the approach enables the coupling of complex nodal-based models like FD-line into a state-space based solver. The method is implemented in a commercial real-time simulation software tool, the Advanced Real-Time Electro-Magnetic Simulator (ARTEMiS).","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130366985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The reactor studied is a single-phase unit with two non-concentric windings without magnetic core, but with magnetic shields and tank. This geometry requires 3-D calculations. To achieve the highest accuracy, a FEM based 3-D program with a time harmonic solver was utilized to calculate the reactive energy in the system. With the reactive energy, the reactance is calculated. Simulations were made to calculate the total and the self reactances. The mutual reactance was calculated by two means, with aid of magnetic circuit theory and by making a separate simulation. The calculated reactances were compared to the measured reactances of an actual full-size manufactured reactor. The deviation between calculated and measured reactances was negligible. Hence, the design reliability to meet the guaranteed reactance value and tolerance was significantly enhanced, thanks to the calculation method utilized.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130793223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This situation requires new analysis tools for understanding system performance, and taking advantage of the potential benefits of DG. This paper presents an evolutionary multi-objective programming approach to determine the optimal operation of DG in distribution systems. The objectives are the minimization of the system power losses and operation cost of the DG units. The proposed approach also considers the inherent stochasticity of DG technologies powered by renewable resources. Some tests were carried out on the IEEE 34 bus distribution test system showing the robustness and applicability of the proposed methodology.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"225 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133812022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These networks are protected by very simple protection devices such as over-current relays, fuses, and re-closers. The presence of distributed power generation causes the researches in this area to be considered more daily. One of the most interesting topics is this area is the protection of distribution networks that are connected to distributed generators. Recent trends in distributed generation (DG) and its useful advantages perfectly can be achieved while the relevant concerns are deliberately taken into account. Up to now, many papers have been published in this area, and in each paper some conflicts that DGs may make in the operation of protection system in distribution networks have been investigated. Also, some solutions have been presented in some other works. In this paper, a new method for optimal placement of circuit breakers (CBs), which are one of the main protective devices in distribution networks including DG, has been presented. In the proposed method, risk analysis is used to optimize the location of circuit breakers on the distribution feeders.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132062892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The frequency was computed from the voltage signals of the fault recorders. The events of April 29 and September 01 were faults in transmission lines of the National Grid, and the event of October 19 was the erratic trip of two main lines at 765kV (Guri-Malena). In these events, the frequency evolution caused the trip of the islanding scheme of the Caracas' electric utility (EDC), but later EDC collapsed. The event of December 11 was the erratic operation of the islanding scheme of EDC, and the underfrequency load shedding avoided a total collapse of EDC. The analysis of these events has been useful to do the corresponding recommendations.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134357144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among the automatic diagnostic methodologies there are some proposals, which make use of the Frequency Response Analysis (FRA) technique as a condition assessment criterion for its sensitivity to variations in the windings and the iron core. However, these methodologies are not completely robust due to the parameters that are used for its discrimination, which are generally statistics indicators. It represents the input and service processes of the queuing system by means of stochastic point process models and assesses the repair process performance indexes applying a procedure of sequential Monte Carlo simulation. Results shows: i. The power law stochastic point process model is recommended as the first choice for representing the input and service processes because it fits even in those cases of samples with low tendency for which the fit to renewal process models failed. ii. Although the traffic intensity parameter gives at a glance the tendency of the repair process performance, to know when an index is higher o lower than a given value, it is necessary to apply the assessment procedure.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123627214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
