The proposed classification system has been tested via solving the problem of Electromyography (EMG) signal classification with optimal features subset selection. The obtained experimental results showed that the GWO based Support Vector Machines (SVM) classification algorithm has achieved an accuracy of 93.22% using 31% of the total extracted features. It also outperformed both the typical SVM algorithm, with no feature set optimization, and the DA based optimized feature set SVM classification, for the tested EMG dataset.","PeriodicalId":220936,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124102014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of non-invasive techniques for earth dam applications can be a significant step in the efficient monitoring of such structures, especially in Lebanon where there is substantial risk of earth dam failure. This work investigated the potential use of electrical resistivity tomographies (ERTs) in detecting dam seepage and failure using physical models at controlled laboratory conditions. It was shown that ERTs can indicate failure in such dams. Furthermore, a geostatistical investigation of these tomographies showed semivariogram analysis was successful in detecting failure and quantifying its spatial scale.","PeriodicalId":220936,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121435339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method uses the conformal mapping technique to extract the relative permittivity and loss tangent is a non-destructive way. After measuring the S-parameters of the material when placed on a coplanar transmission line, an inverse problem is applied to extract the dielectric constant. The permittivity measurement is done for thin film of 5 micrometer thickness. The obtained results are satisfying and encouraging and the method is validated using standard FEM simulation software.","PeriodicalId":220936,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131835536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this work is to prepare all models needed in order to have a fully controlled system. First, a complete full vehicle model including the longitudinal, lateral and vertical dynamics is proposed and validated using several scenarios. This model is used to test offline the response behavior of a vehicle due to different control inputs. Second, a model generating states reference trajectories for control purposes are developed. Then, a synthesis model needed for the controller design is presented. Based on these models, a siding mode controller is proposed to ensure the stability of the system.","PeriodicalId":220936,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131208550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet, the development and optimization of management models require accurate prediction of generation rates and waste composition, often lacking in developing countries. As such, this study aims at spatially quantifying CDW and analyzing its dynamics in Lebanon. The study developed a model for CDW classified quantification in the six governorates of Lebanon. The outcome can be used as the main input for modeling management strategies and designing processing facilities for CDW at the national and/or governorate scales. The construction waste and demolition waste were assessed separately. Daily construction waste generation ranges between 717 and 6353 in the Bekaa and Mount Lebanon governorates, respectively. The annual growth rate varied between 5.6 and 13%, with an average of 10-11% in most of the country. As to demolition waste, a total of 810 tons is generated daily in Lebanon.","PeriodicalId":220936,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116489137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, the reduced order models appear to be efficient for linear models. However, the challenge isn't won yet facing the nonlinear models. The Proper Generalized Decomposition (PGD) is one of the popular reduced order models techniques. In fact, it reduces the computation time by separating the space dimensions and therefore reducing the dimensionality of the problem. Moreover, the PGD treats nonlinearity by a linearization step, using iterations for example. However, the aim of using reduced order models is the computation time reduction. Using iterative linearization techniques, computation time reduction becomes irrelevant and therefore new techniques should be proposed. In this work we propose a new linearization method by combining the PGD and the POD (Proper Orthogonal Decomposition). The treated problem rises from thermoset materials' curing where a coupling between the nonlinear heat equation and the nonlinear curing kinetics exists.","PeriodicalId":220936,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128578813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ERTs were recorded using AGI Supersting R1/IP equipment - a total of 28 electrodes, spaced at one meter, were used in the resistivity setup - and then analyzed with EarthImager 2D. The MASW testing was performed using 24 geophones at one-meter spacing using Geometrics' GEODE G24 seismograph; the recorded data were analyzed using Geopsy for 1D and SeisImager for 2D profiles of the shear wave velocity. DCP test was conducted on the crest at various locations. Findings showed that the embankment of the dam consisted of three layers up to 5.8 meters of depth investigation. ERT also showed the existence of an area with low resistivity, indicating the potential for internal seepage. The shear wave velocity and DCP confirmed the existence of three layers, which was consistent with the resistivity results.","PeriodicalId":220936,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"86 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116420207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, an effective passive vibration absorber is modeled to control the involuntary pathological rest tremor in the right hand of Parkinson's disease patient. The three-degree-of-freedom dynamic hand model capable to describe the flexion-extension planar motion at shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints in horizontal plane is designed. The passive tuned vibration absorber is modeled to suppress flexion motion of shoulder, elbow and wrist joints. Active inputs producing motion are considered at shoulder and elbow joints, and driven at resonance frequencies. The equations of motion for the dynamically coupled modeled hand system are derived. The responses are represented in time and frequency domains using the complex transfer function method. Optimum position of the absorber on the forearm is determined in terms of its effectiveness in reducing tremor's amplitude.","PeriodicalId":220936,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116754354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, studying systems in the fractional-order domain provides a wider scope view of their behavior. When the neuron is generalized into the fractional-order domain, the normal behaviors displayed in the integer case change. Furthermore, two neurons display various synchronization patterns. The neurons' fractional-order system is solved using non-standard finite difference scheme together with Grunwald-Letnikov discretization.","PeriodicalId":220936,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"290 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127542839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
