The performance improvement of the GHF with increase in quadrature points and enhanced robustness compared to EKF and UKF with respect to large initial uncertainty has been reported. It has been concluded that without introducing substantial computational burden, GHF with three or more quadrature points exhibits better performance compared to UKF and EKF.","PeriodicalId":220747,"journal":{"name":"2012 7th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications (ICIEA)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122105190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventional PID controller only provides satisfactory performance for set-point regulation. In this paper, a discrete time optimal tracking control of BLDC motor is presented. Modeling of the BLDC motor is expressed in state equation. A discrete time full-order state observer is designed to observe states of BLDC motor. Feedback gain matrix of the observer is obtained by pole assignment method using Ackermann formulation with observability matrix. The state feedback variables are given by the state observer. A discrete time LQ optimal tracking control of the BLDC motor system is constructed to track the angle of rotor of the BLDC motor to the reference angle based on the designed observer. Genetic Algorithms (GAs) perform powerful global searches, but their long computation times, put a limitation when solving large scale optimization problems. The present paper describes a Fast GA (FGA) to overcome this limitation, by starting with random solutions within the search space and narrowing down the search space by considering the minimum and maximum errors of the population members. Since the search space is restricted to a small region within the available search space the algorithm works very fast. This algorithm reduces the computational burden and number of generations to converge. The proposed algorithm has been demonstrated for HTS of various combinations of Hydro thermal systems. In all the cases Fast GA shows reliable convergence. The final results obtained using Fast GA are compared with simple (conventional) GA and found to be encouraging.","PeriodicalId":220747,"journal":{"name":"2012 7th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications (ICIEA)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129695162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Renewable energies, such as photovoltaic and wind turbine generator systems, are used as green energy. However, the large amount of distributed generation causes voltage deviation beyond the statutory range in distribution systems. Furthermore, power flow at interconnection point is fluctuated substantially. So distribution systems need a solution for voltage control and power flow control method. This paper proposes a decision technique of optimal reference scheduling of the battery energy storage system(BESS), controllable loads(CL), interfaced inverters with DG, and the existing voltage control devices for optimal distribution system operation. In this proposed method, the formulated control objective is solved by optimization algorithm. The proposed method achieves the following a tunes: The node voltage is maintained in the acceptable range, the fluctuations of active and reactive power flows are reduced at the interconnection point in the distribution system. The bone age assessed by physicians could vary from time to time and the accuracy depends on physicians' experiences. In order to provide a stable and more accurate bone age assessment, computer-assisted bone age assessment systems are employed. Once the epiphyseal fusion has started, the degree of fusion and texture features are analyzed. This paper presents an algorithm to extract and analyze the texture features of the regions of interest of phalanges in hand radiographs at the later stage in order to provide a stable and efficient later stage bone age assessment. The presented algorithm first uses wavelet transform to obtain three detail sub-bands from each region of interest. Then singular value decomposition is employed on each sub-band to extract the maximum likelihood feature, λ. Finally, support vector machine is applied for classification. Experimental results show that this algorithm can provide efficient and accurate later stage bone age assessment.","PeriodicalId":220747,"journal":{"name":"2012 7th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications (ICIEA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127426936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
