This inverter scheme produces 64 space-vector combinations distributed over 37 space-vector locations. Isolated DC power supplies are employed to avoid the zero-sequence currents. In this paper, a space vector PWM switching scheme for the dual inverter fed open-end winding induction motor drive is employed. Instantaneous three phase reference voltages are required to implement this PWM, which does not requires any sector identification.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"38 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129969161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Impact that can be clearly seen is with respect to the types of distributed resources and the power electronic (PE) devices used to interface them. A balance has to be maintained between the type of DER's and the interfaces in order to get the maximum benefit of incorporating Distributed Generation to the grid. Islanding methods which are the means for creating the microgrids and islanding detection methods are a critical feature. These, together with protection and reliability features have been discussed in the paper.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124566515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The voltage and frequency controller (VFC) consists of a voltage source converter (VSC) supported with a battery energy storage system (BESS) at its DC bus. A low pass filter based control algorithm is used to provide switching signals for VFC to achieve frequency control, load leveling, load balancing, a unity power factor operation and an active filtering. Moreover, an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) is used to provide the function of stator voltage control. Performance of VFC is demonstrated under wide varying wind speeds and consumer loads.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121519007","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a common phenomenon that certain packets of the country that are water stressed are also power stressed at the same time. There is a huge potential for utilizing renewable energy sources, for example solar energy, wind energy, or micro hydropower to provide a quality power supply to remote areas. The abundant energy available in nature can be harnessed and converted to electricity in a sustainable way to supply the necessary power to elevate the living standards of the people without access to the electricity grid. The advantages of using renewable energy sources for generating power in remote areas are obvious such as the cost of transported fuel are often prohibitive fossil fuel and that there is increasing concern on the issues of climate change and global warming. The disadvantage of standalone power systems using renewable energy is that the availability of renewable energy sources has daily and seasonal patterns which results in difficulties in regulating the output power to cope with the load demand. Combining more than one form of the renewable energy generation and also conventional diesel power generation will enable the power generated from a renewable energy sources to be more reliable and affordable. This kind of electric power generation system, which consists of renewable energy and fossil fuel generators together with an energy storage system and power conditioning system, is known as a hybrid power system. This paper elaborates on the analysis of small capacity hybrid power system for supplying electricity and clean water demand in rural and remote areas by using mini-grid hybrid power system consisting of renewable energy (Solar Photovoltaic cells & Windmill) and battery with a reverse osmosis desalination plant as a primary / deferrable load.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117137681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Comparing the actual output currents with the reference signals and digitizing the errors by hysteresis controllers caused to determine which of the phase voltages at input must be connected to each output ac loads. The advantages of this method are excellent dynamic response, low cost, small computational task and easy implementation. Moreover the presented control method can produce quadratue output currents with independently controllable amplitude and frequency. The matrix converter with the proposed control method has been simulated with PSCAD software. The ac supply feeds to the modules of power supply, which are connected in series at the output to increase its rating and balancing the power on all three phases of supply. High frequency isolated Cuk converters are used as modular dc-dc converter in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) of operation for power factor correction (PFC). Nearly unity power factor (PF) operation in the proposed power supply is obtained with harmonic reduction at three-phase input ac mains. Power quality indices of the power supply are also presented to demonstrate its improved performance at varying loading conditions.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131559315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
