The space vector approach requires angle and sector estimation for the calculation of gating times of the inverter and hence increases the complexity of the PWM algorithm. However, the proposed algorithm uses the instantaneous phase voltages only. Hence, the complexity will be reduced. Moreover, the proposed approach gives the realization of various carrier based PWM algorithms that include both space vector PWM (SVPWM) and various discontinuous PWM (DPWM) algorithms by using a generalized control algorithm and is obtained via unequal sharing of zero states. In the proposed approach, by varying a constant (k ) value from zero to one, various DPWM algorithms can be generated along with the SVPWM algorithm under both the linear and over modulation regions. To validate the proposed GPWM algorithm, several numerical simulation studies have been carried out and the results have been presented. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123897674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Power electronic converters are used to interface the induction generator with the grid and maximize the power captured from the wind. In this paper wind energy conversion system using the schemes based on back to back dual converter topology and the matrix converter topology are compared. Using the matrix converter, the terminal voltage and frequency of the induction generator can be controlled in such a way that the wind turbine is operating at its maximum power point for all wind velocities. The power factor at the interface with the grid is also controlled by the matrix converter to ensure purely active power injection into the grid for optimal utilization of the installed wind turbine capacity. Simulation results support the claims made on the advantages of the matrix converter scheme.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115168545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The high voltage distribution system is proposed to minimize the technical distribution losses. The analysis is done using CYMDIST. The developed methodology is carried on a Lalpura distribution feeder from the Palwal division (Haryana). The feeder is feeding to 89 Distribution transformers with 200 amperes peak load and having the length of about 76 km. The analysis reveals that converting the existing LVDS system for the agricultural load to HVDS system, there is net reduction in technical losses in the distribution system which in turn raises the efficiency of the system. Also it shows the economic viability of the proposed technique.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124853016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The topology provides transformer less operation where separate DC links at each bridge are fed from individual PV units. The traditional control techniques using battery supported PV panels lead to non uniform operation and utilization of each H-bridge, where some bridges are under high stress as compared to others. This paper presents control techniques which will levels the utilization and storage of power generated by PV panels of same capacity and same size of battery connected at each level. The control method utilizes rotation policy for operation of each bridge at each level in three fundamental cycles, to enhance both the life time of battery, H-bridges and PV panels used. PV units are integrated with incremental conductance (IC) based MPPT charge controllers to extract maximum power at all time of operation. A MATLAB based simulation has been carried out and various waveforms are analyzed. The presented results shows the effectiveness of the proposed scheme in power balanced operation of each panel, battery and the hardware for proper resource utilization with enhanced efficiency.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129157744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The inter connection of renewable energy sources are incorporated using power electronics converters, with the aim of improving power quality at the point of common coupling (PCC). This paper presents a novel idea where a STATCOM is used innovatively as a load reactive power compensator an interface unit between the grid and renewable energy source, and as an effective method for real power exchange between the dynamic load system, grid and renewable energy source. A controller unit is proposed for the STATCOM based on modified Icosf algorithm by which reactive power compensation and power factor correction is done and also real power support is provided by renewable energy source through STATCOM. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with the modified Instantaneous Reactive Power Theory (IRPT) control algorithm to achieve the above objectives.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129137996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed basic topology is comprised of two dc voltage sources, two unidirectional power switches, and an H-bridge. A new generation of cascaded multilevel inverters can be achieved by series connection of some number of proposed basic topology. The proposed cascaded multilevel inverter in symmetric condition utilizes less number of switches in comparison with the conventional symmetric multilevel inverter. In addition, in asymmetric condition, the variety of magnitudes of dc voltages sources is less than the conventional ones. In order to generate all voltage levels (odd and even), four new algorithms are suggested to determine the magnitudes of dc voltage sources. The ability of the proposed topology in generating the desired output voltage is proved through the simulations results carried out in PSCAD/EMTDC software.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124696475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
