The proposed structure permits use of single input DC source for multilevel voltage generation at the output. It combines a switched capacitor part with an H-bridge part along with an auxiliary switch. Operation of the topology is explained with the help of a single source five-level boost inverter. An appropriate control scheme is described and simulation results are presented. A comparison with the conventional topologies is also presented in the paper. It seen that the proposed topology requires lesser number of components for higher number of levels and would be less costlier and effective in terms of overall volume.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"2020 27","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120848937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, at light loads, no balance in between copper and iron losses, results considerable reduction in the efficiency. The part load efficiency and power factor can be improved by making the motor excitation adjustment in accordance with load and speed. In this paper, loss model controller (LMC) is developed and optimal value of flux is obtained to give maximum efficiency of the motor. LMC is sensitive to parameter variation due to temperature and magnetic saturation and its performance is affected when parameters change. An attempt is made to gain a deeper physical insight into the sensitivity analysis of model-based controller in induction motor control application. The study reveals the effect of the machine parameters on torque, speed, flux and DC-link power respectively.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"2018 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128325763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Distributed Static Series Compensator (DSSC) device can be clamped on to existing power lines and be operated so as to control the impedance of the conductor - realizing the first in a family of D-FACTS devices. Determining the location and amount of distributed compensation to be employed is an important problem. The impact of installing D-FACTS devices is examined by studying the sensitivities of power system quantities such as voltage magnitude, voltage angle, bus power injections, line power flows and real power losses with respect to line impedance. This paper presents a novel strategy for the application of D-FACTS devices in Loss Minimization. The most appropriate location to install D-FACTS devices is determined by studying the sensitivities of transmission losses with respect to line impedance. Sensitivities enable us to determine the potential benefits of the D-FACTS Devices offered to the system. Distributed power generation systems based on renewable energy sources have gained tremendous importance worldwide and the trend is catching up in India as well. These are currently being interfaced to the existing systems using voltage source converters (VSC's). The control of such distributed resources is significantly different than the conventional power systems mainly because the VSC's have no inertia unlike the synchronous generators. As the percentage of renewable sources integrated into the utility grid increases, it becomes necessary to adhere to new and strict power quality guidelines. Most of these standards are developed for proper running of these resources in grid and islanded modes and also ensure power quality standards are met. This paper considers the multifunctional capabilities of distributed resource connected to the grid via a voltage source inverter. A simple control algorithm is developed for real and reactive power sharing of the load between various sources. This control algorithm is modified for power quality improvement. A voltage source inverter (VSI) based distributed energy resource is connected to three phase utility grid feeding a variety of linear loads. Simulation results are discussed for the model developed using Sim-Power systems of the Matlab software. The control algorithm can be extended for several distributed resources connected in parallel with suitable modifications.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127162798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Human Machine Interface (HMI) control is also developed for operation of drive system at field level controls. Ladder logic programs according to desired control mode of operations are developed to control and monitor the status of PMSM drive. SCADA screens have been developed to control and monitor the status of the motor and for field level control HMI touch screens are designed. The BCSVM gives the lower ripples in current and voltage with low torque distortion; further the switching losses are reduced for a given switching frequency at higher line dc voltage. The performance of the induction motor drive with two level and three level BCSVM control is compared using PI-control but the PI-controller doesn't give good dynamic performance of the induction motor.
