Wind power, as a rule, does not contribute to voltage regulation in the system. Induction machines are mostly used as generators in wind power based generations. Induction generators draw reactive power from the system to which they are connected. Therefore, the integration of wind power to power system networks; especially a weak distribution networks is one of the main concerns of the power system engineers. Voltage control and reactive power compensation in a weak distribution networks for integration of wind power represent main concern of this paper. The problem is viewed from MATLAB/Simulink simulation of weak distribution network and wind power integration in this network. Without reactive power compensation, the integration of wind power in a network causes voltage collapse in the system and under-voltage tripping of wind power generators. For dynamic reactive power compensation, when, STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) is a used at a point of interconnection of wind farm and the network; the system absorbs the generated wind reactive power while maintaining its voltage level.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"43 7","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132914022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the present age, elimination of harmonics produced by the nonlinear loads to improve the power quality is a great issue. To overcome the problem due to harmonics, Active Power Filters (APFs) are used with various control schemes. But Hybrid Active power filter is a power electronic device which has both the characteristics of passive power filters and active power filters, helps in cancellation of the harmonics by producing compensating signal. The digital controller design and its simulation are presented for both the filter types, showing acceptable THD results for the word length used in the fixed-point computations involved in the switching sequence generation.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129352284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SIMSCAPE is software used for simulation of PV cell and panel. A photovoltaic solar system exhibits nonlinear voltage-current characteristic and it varies with solar insolation and temperature. Also maximum power output of PV array varies with the change in temperature and insolation conditions. A DC-DC boost converter efficiently converts DC voltage to a higher voltage, and is also used for PV maximum power tracking purpose to obtain maximum power possible from PV solar system. This paper proposes step by step process of designing and simulation of DC to DC boost converter for a Solar panel of 12 Volts open circuit voltage, 50 Ampere short circuit current and a load of 120 ohms. The present paper proposes a methodology for optimal siting and sizing of solar photovoltaic (SPV) based DG system in radial distribution systems, so that the electrical power losses in the system can be minimized while maintaining the voltage profile in the system within the specified limits. The SPV based DG system supplies the active power in the distribution system at the node where it installed because most of the invertors used for grid interfacing of SPV based systems are current source invertors. The losses and voltage profile in the system is evaluated using a load flow program. Voltage along with active power loss reduction index of each node is fed into fuzzy expert system (FES) whose output is DG placement suitability. DG is then placed at the node with the highest suitability provided voltage constraints are not violated. Exact loss formulae is then used to determine the size of the DG to be placed at the incoming node which was found using FES.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132177708","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
