The Photovoltaic solar cells are better option for converting solar energy into electrical energy. Initial high cost and low efficiency PV cells have not yet been a fully attractive alternative for electricity users. For improving the performance, Z-Source inverter can be used in place of conventional Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) in Solar Power Generation System. The PV cell model is developed using basic circuit equations of the photovoltaic solar cells including the effects of solar irradiation and temperature changes. The Z-Source inverter is implemented to realize boosted DC to AC conversion. Results show that the energy conversion efficiency of ZSI is much better as compared to conventional voltage Source Inverter (VSI). The developed system is tested for linear and nonlinear load. The Harmonic Analysis has been done to know the quality of the power generation.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127006203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The voltage unbalance is simulated by decreasing the voltage of the phase in which inter turn fault has occurred. A comparison between these characteristics and the characteristics of an induction motor with only voltage unbalance is also presented. Voltage unbalance and inter turn fault produce negative sequence current in similar manner. Their combined effect on the negative sequence current is presented in this work. For this purpose, an induction motor model with unequal number of stator turns has been developed and is then modified to develop a second model which can incorporate stator inter-turn short circuits. Simulation results obtained are observed to be in good agreement with other studies.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116485252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Few options to name in distributed energy resources are solar, photo voltaic, wind turbines. Wind generation has been commercially available for many years and the main push has been in large wind farms where wind turbines from 700 kW to 1.5 MW are available and in use, though one of the challenges in injecting wind power into grid is power quality. Role of a Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) in effective operation of grid along with Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) is analysed in details in this study. This also covers the analysis of key parameters being influenced by using WECS like active/reactive power, harmonics and voltage at the point of common coupling. With every step increase in speed of wind turbine in this scheme, the active power injected by the wind source increases and hence reduces the power requirement from the grid proportionally. Simultaneously, DSTATCOM helps in balancing the load unbalance and supplying the reactive power required by wind generator, hence improving the grid power quality. The simulation has been done using MATLAB/SIMULINK in power system block-set.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121595259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cascaded H-bridge inverter provides Stepped AC voltage wave form with lesser harmonics at higher levels by combining different ranges of voltage DC sources and the filter components are reduced by increasing Step levels. By increasing the level of the inverter we can get several advantages: get a good voltage wave form, Very low THD, reduced volume and cost. The need of several sources on the DC side of the converter makes multilevel technology attractive for photovoltaic applications. This paper provides an overview of a multilevel inverter topology and investigates their suitability for single-phase photovoltaic systems. A simulation model is based on MATLAB/SIMULINK is developed. An experimental 40W prototype inverter was builted and tested. The detailed circuit description, operation, characteristics, circuit equations and simulation results of the Active Clamp Flyback converter are presented here. The clamp capacitor absorbs leakage and a part of magnetizing energy stored in the primary winding of the Flyback transformer. Therefore the leakage voltage spike is reduced to a desired value. The dumped energy in the clamp capacitor is then transferred totally to the source by a LC resonating circuit. For main switch ZVS is achieved at turn OFF and ZCS is achieved at turn ON, as it is operated in discontinuous mode. ZCS is also achieved for the auxiliary switch both at turn ON and OFF. Thus switching loss is reduced and a part of the magnetically stored energy of the transformer, which is absorbed by the clamp capacitor, is sent back to the source, resulting in the efficiency of the converter being increase greatly. Thus, a Soft Switched high power rated Flyback Converter with good efficiency can be designed.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121608979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SVPWM gives the more rms stator flux ripples in induction motor at 0.76 modulation indices, which gives more ripples in current and torque distortion. The flux performance of the induction motor is improved using three PWM (TPWM) due to twin switching transition with less area of rms stator flux ripple. The PI-control (PIC) doesn't give the good dynamic performance of the induction motor drive using two level Voltage Source Inverter due to sudden changes in the load or speed. Further to improve dynamic performance in the torque and Flux of induction motor drive is simulated using type-2 fuzzy logic control (TP2FLC) in place of PIC because; TP2FLC is effectively dealing with uncertainties, and simulation results of speed, torque, flux and stator current of induction motor is compare with PIC of SVPWM and TPWM.","PeriodicalId":220613,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 5th India International Conference on Power Electronics (IICPE)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131182597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
