Currently, position estimation systems using at least four GPS satellites are most popular. However, because of the influence of signals shielded by buildings and multipath, measurement error becomes larger. For accurate estimation, we discuss algorithms for position estimation which doesn't depend on the GPS satellite too much. The proposal uses only one satellite and two receivers. Our approach is to reduce the necessary number of the satellites. Moreover, it is useful for Quasi-Zenith Satellite Systems effectively. In this paper, we introduce the proposal algorithm and the estimation characteristic derived from computation simulations.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131603155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We investigate the reliability of a real-time service and data delivery for multicast transmission over lossy Vehicular Ad-hoc NETworks (VANETs). The proposed technique represents the next work of a previous approach initially applied to traditional Mobile Ad-Hoc NETworks (MANETs). This technique combines application layer channel coding based on Luby Transform (LT) codes with multicast delivery in a wireless network exploiting PUMA (Protocol for Unified Multicasting through Announcements). The main goal is to achieve a real-time service with an high quality level in a lossy vehicular network environment. The rateless property, the ability of adapt the code on-the-fly, makes Fountain codes an attractive solution for data broadcast/multicast applications, like the well-known comfort applications. In a VANET scenario characterized by dynamic topology conditions, packet losses and disconnections, the proposed approach leads to an improvement on arrival times of packets towards destination vehicles. Simulation results provide the effectiveness of our technique compared with traditional data dissemination approach.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"314 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124462937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thereby, vehicles create an ad-hoc network with adjacent vehicles and roadside stations in order to exchange foresighted traffic information. These messages may contain warnings of hazardous situations or information for traffic efficiency enhancements. One of various possible use cases for C2X is the Weather Hazard Warning. Within this use case, information and warnings about local weather events are delivered to drivers on the road. Therefore, weather relevant data obtained from the existing infrastructure of weather measurement stations are combined with data gathered by vehicles driving along roads. In this work, we describe an architecture which may enable such a Weather Hazard Warning in lard scale C2X communication field operational tests. The architecture is developed in context of and will be embedded in to the German research project Safe and Intelligent Mobility — Test Field Germany. However, it may serve as a reference implementation for a potential rollout of C2X communication.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128625460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Though safety is the primary motive for the development of vehicular ad-hoc network, they also facilitate applications like managing the traffic flow, monitoring the road conditions, dissemination of data and many more. Efficiency of all these applications depends on density estimation. Of the various approaches clustering is demonstrated to be an effective approach. In this paper a clustering approach for traffic monitoring and routing is proposed where the Cluster Head(CH) election is done based on distance and direction information. Since clusters are formed all along the road, CH's will take the responsibility of routing the packet to destination. The simulation results show better stability, accurate density estimation in the cluster, better End-to-End delay and good delivery ratio. The protocol used is 802.11p with Wave Short Message (WSM) which is proved to be best technology designed for VANETs environment. The performance of the algorithm is analyzed using NCTUns simulator.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116772151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

School transport by bus is not just about going by the school bus. It should be considered from a door-to-door perspective. A system that supports all involved stakeholders and take into account all wishes is most truly a way toward a more safe and secure school transport. The aim with this paper is to describe the process starting from user wishes ending up with system architecture. The work is based on the frame approach.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114261921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since this relates very different communications layers (PHY/MAC/Network), the effective results are only roughly identified; yet the traits of a common perspective do develop, thanks to identifying common aspects of the vehicular networks topologies. We introduce first models of IP vehicular network topologies, representing a typical highway, vehicles and radio cells. Then we describe an IP addressing model for three types of vehicles and six types of IP topologies, followed by a description of frequency allocation and power control for cells; as an addition, we present an algorithm for IP route exchange and its model of route propagation in a particular topology used for multi-body vehicle applications. The concepts described in this paper are guidelines for further protocol development work towards a complete solution for IP networking and radio architecture for vehicular networks.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114762987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diverse MTC applications are going to be realized in LTE network due to the advantages of better coverage and lower deployment cost. However, a large number of MTC devices desiring to transmit short data will cause overloaded in the radio access network (RAN). However, no single positioning method can provide decent tradeoff between accuracy and coverage. To address this issue, we propose a Kalman filter-based hybrid method which can track the mobile phones traveling on-board vehicles. The proposed method combines coordinates collected by assisted global positioning system (A-GPS) mobile phones and location estimates calculated from observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) measurements. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of this hybrid scheme in a simulated vehicular scenario.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126805847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In comparison with the current traffic sensing systems, our light-weight technique has simpler structure in both terms of hardware and software. An antenna installed to the roadside receives the signal generated during electrical activity of the vehicles' sub-systems. This signal feeds the feature extraction and classification blocks which recognize different classes of traffic situation in terms of density and flow. Different classifiers like Naive Bayes, Decision Tree and k-Nearest Neighbor are applied in real-world scenarios and performances higher than 95% are reported. Although the electrical noises of the various vehicles do not have the same statistical characteristics, experimental analysis shows that they are applicable for traffic monitoring goals. Due to the acceptable classification results and the differences between the proposed and current traffic monitoring techniques in terms of interfering factors, advantages and disadvantages, we propose it to work in parallel with the current systems to improve the coverage and efficiency of the traffic control network.","PeriodicalId":220290,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126411665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
