The first approach is statistical in nature, and is based on modeling the shape of each feature with Gaussian mixtures. The advantage of this approach is the uniform treatment of landmarks. The second approach is a hybrid method to find the nose tip, which does not require learning, and is robust under adverse conditions. The need for technological support on the subject has led wireless sensor technologies and sophisticated electronics to become within the reach of average users and research effort on the subject has attained much importance. The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), which has already been used in retail and the wireless biological and environmental sensors have begun to be used in healthcare and smart remote monitoring applications. The paper also describes an approach for determining the lane fullness of a dedicated leg of an intersection. In order to give an accurate fullness measure the cast shadows that might be present in the segmented foregrounds must be eliminated. In this study the detection and removal of shadows have been carried out using the HSV color space. The simulations were carried out using the Camera 1 sequence from PETS 2001 database and a custom sequence recorded in TRNC-Famagusta. This approach simplifies the maximum likelihood (ML) decoding at the receiver while making full rate, full-diversity transmission of complex signals possible using 4 and 8 transmit antennas. However, with the evolution of the technology, polygonal models are becoming more and more complex. As the complexity of the models increase, the visual approximation to the real world objects get better but there is a trade-off between the cost of processing these models and better visual approximation. In order to reduce this cost, the number of polygons in a model can be reduced by mesh simplification algorithms. These algorithms are widely used such that nearly all of the popular mesh editing libraries include at least one of them. In this work, polygonal simplification algorithms that are embedded in open source libraries: CGAL, VTK and OpenMesh are compared with the Metro geometric error measuring tool. Histopathological examination, which is routinely used for the diagnosis and grading of these diseases, relies on pathologists to identify such tissue changes under a microscope. However, as this examination mainly relies on the visual interpretation of pathologists, it may lead to a considerable amount of subjectivity. To reduce the subjectivity level, it is proposed to use computational methods that provide objective measures. These methods quantify the tissue changes associated with disease by defining features on tissue images. In this paper, colon glands are mathematically analyzed making use of different feature extraction approaches. In this analysis, morphological, intensity-based, and textural features are investigated and glands are classified using these features. We analyze the effects of different dimension reduction and normalization methods on local appearance-based face recognition in this paper. Each image is divided into equal sized blocks and six different dimension reduction methods are implemented for each block separately to create local visual feature vectors. On these local features, several normalization methods are applied in an attempt to eliminate the changes in lighting conditions and contrast differences among blocks of different face images. The experimental results show the improvements in recognition rates due to the effects of dimension reduction and normalization for three different classifiers. Usage of trainable dimension reduction methods instead of DCT and a new normalization method in our work (within-block normalization as referred in this paper) are two factors that makes difference from previous works in literature. CVA has been used to classify phonemes. The phoneme sequence obtained from the classification is decoded into the word using redundant hash addressing (RHA). The phoneme-based speech recognition is more suitable than the word-based speech recognition for implementing applications that use different words in their dictionaries. For that reason, in this study the CVA is evaluated to see whether it could be used in phoneme-based word recognition or not. In the experimental study we obtained the word recognition rates 70–80% from randomly selected words in METU database. Taking into consideration that wheeze, having a sinusoidal waveform, has a different behavior in time-frequency domain from that of non-wheeze signals, features are chosen as kurtosis, Renyi entrophy, f50/f90 ratio and zero-crossing irregularity. Upon calculation of these features for each wheeze and non-wheeze portion, the whole data scattered as two classes in four dimensional feature space is projected using Fisher Discriminant Analysis (FDA) onto the single dimensional space that separates the two classes best. Observing that the two classes are visually well separated in this new space, Neyman-Pearson hypothesis testing is applied. Finally, the success rate has been found to be %94.9 for the training set, and leave-one-out approach together with the above methodology yields a success rate of %93.5 for the test set.
