Seasonal abundance and spatial dispersion pattern of the sorghum aphid, Melanaphis sorghi (Theobald), were studied on grain sorghum hybrids ‘DK-54’ and ‘Mezquite’ at different phenological stages (vegetative, flowering, and grain filling) and growing seasons (spring and fall) in northeastern México from 2014 to 2017. Sorghum aphid was significantly more abundant on ‘DK-54’, vegetative-flowering, 3-5 leaves, and fall, with a maximum average of 1,096 aphids per leaf. Regardless of hybrid, phenological stage, growing season, and leaf position, Taylor’s power law indicated the sorghum aphid had an aggregated dispersion pattern (b > 1). However, aggregation of M. sorghi was significantly greater in ‘Mezquite’ and spring compared to ‘DK-54’ and fall. Parameters obtained from Taylor’s models were used to calculate the number of samples required for a precision level (p = 0.15, 0.20, 0.25) and population density (25, 50, 100, 200 aphids per leaf). For IPM decision making, a maximum sample size of 20 plants seemed adequate for a wide range of M. sorghi densities. Resumen. Se determinó la abundancia estacional y patrón de dispersión espacial del pulgón amarillo Melanaphis sorghi (Theobald) en los híbridos de sorgo ‘DK-54’ y ‘Mezquite’ en diferentes etapas fenológicas (vegetativa, floración, y llenado del grano) y ciclos de producción (primavera y otoño) en el noreste de México desde 2014 a 2017. El pulgón amarillo fué significativamente más abundante en ‘DK-54’, etapas vegetativa-floración, hojas 3-5 y durante otoño, con un promedio máximo de 1,096 pulgones por hoja. Independientemente del híbrido, etapá fenológica, ciclo de producción, y número de hoja, la ecuación de Taylor indicó que el pulgón amarillo del sorgo manifestó un patrón de dispersión espacial agregaga (b > 1). Sin embargo, el grado de agregación de M. sorghi fue significativamente mayor en ‘Mezquite’ y primavera, comparado con ‘DK-54’ y otoño. Los parámetros obtenidos de la ecuación de Taylor se utilizaron para estimar el número de muestras requeridas para diferentes niveles de precisión (p = 0.15, 0.20, 0.25) y densidades (25, 50, 100, 200 pulgones por hoja). Para el manejo de adultos de S. frugiperda se han desarrollado estrategias basadas en el empleo de semioquímicos, como el monitoreo de los machos por medio de trampas cebadas con feromona sexual de la hembra. Sin embargo, faltan estudios para el manejo de las larvas con semioquímicos enfocados en la atracción de las larvas de S. frugiperda a plantas de maíz. Por lo anterior, en este estudió, se comparó la respuesta de las larvas de S. frugiperda a extractos de maíz híbrido ‘Asgrow A 7573’ y maíz criollo cuarenteño en condiciones de estrés por herbivoría. Se realizaron extractos hexánicos de ambas variedades de maíz para evaluar la respuesta de atracción de larvas de S. frugiperda en olfatómetro “Y”. Las larvas de tercer estadio son más atraídas a los extractos maíz criollo cuarenteño sin daño, en comparación con los extractos maíz criollo cuarenteño con daño por herbívoros. Además, las larvas presentaron una mayor atracción a los extractos de maíz híbrido Asgrow 7573 con daño por herbivoría, en comparación con el maíz criollo cuarenteño. (Caricaceae) en el parásito de las ovejas Haemonchus contortus. Los datos se analizaron con un diseño completamente al azar. Cambios morfo estructurales de huevos expuestos al extracto fueron observados bajo un microscopio óptico, y los compuestos secundarios del látex fueron analizados con pruebas cualitativas de fitoquímicos. Los resultados mostraron alta inhibición de eclosión de huevos (EHI ovicidal test) in vitro, con valores cercanos a 100% (P < 0.05) a la concentración 12 µg/ml, muy similares al control. La inhibición disminuyó a 55.4% con la concentración 3 µg/ml, lo que indica un efecto dependiente de la concentración. El análisis fitoquímico de Aq-E mostró alcaloides, y micrográficas daño celular en huevos expuestos al extracto, comparados con los que no fueron expuestos. The use of functional groups has helped to identify general patterns of structure in communities, and make comparisons between community and ecosystems. The aim of this work was to analyze functional groups of ants in the ecoregions of Durango, Mexico, which are North American deserts, southern semi-arid elevations, warm-dry forests and temperate sierras. Generalist Myrmicinae was the functional group with largest percentage (22%), followed by tropical climate specialists (15%), opportunists (15%), hot climate specialists (12%), subordinate camponotini (10%) dominant Dolochoderinae (10%) and cold climate specialists (10%) while specialized predators and cryptic species the lowest percentage (3%).
