Achilles tendon thickness, shape (spindle, parallel), echogenicity (heterogeneous, homogeneous) and Doppler flow (present or absent) were measured bilaterally with ultrasound. Range of movement (ROM) of the first metatarsophalangeal join, balance test, endurence test and vertical jump were measured (bilaterally) as performance variables.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>Twenty-five (45%) tendons were parallel with homogeneous echogenicity, 12 (21%) were spindle shape and homogeneous echogenicity, 7 (12%) were parallel with heterogeneous echogenicity and 12 (22%) were spindle shape and heterogeneous echogenicity in the classic ballet dancers. Thirty-three (87%) tendons were parallel with homogeneous echogenicity, 3 (8%) were spindle shape and homogeneous echogenicity, 0 (0.0%) were parallel with heterogeneous echogenicity and 2 (5%) were spindle shape and heterogeneous echogenicity in the contemporary dancers. The tendon thickness, ROM, balance and endurence test were greater for the classical group. DFOS scores were greater for the contemporary group. Heterogeneous echogenicity affected thichness, balance test and vertical jump. In conclusion, Achilles tendon ultrasound abnormalities are present in pre-professional dancers and they are differences between forms of dance. In addition, these abnormalities may affect dance performance.</div></div><div><h3>Objectif</h3><div>Analyser les différences de paramètres sonographiques du tendon d’Achille entre le ballet classique préprofessionnel et les danseurs contemporains et étudier la relation entre les paramètres d’échographie musculosquelettique et la performance et les différences entre les deux formes de danse.</div></div><div><h3>Méthodes</h3><div>Nous avons recruté quarante-sept danseurs (94 tendons). The evidence for the efficacy of strength training in the context of compulsory physical education is more limited. It is widely accepted that conveying enjoyment of training is a central task of sport at school. This study aimed to investigate whether the expected increases in strength after training are also achieved under the framework conditions of compulsory PE lessons and whether these correspond to the enjoyment of training experienced by the pupils.</div></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><div>A total of 94 adolescents (17.5<!--> <!-->±<!--> <!-->1.3 years) participated in a 7-week strength training programme in physical education classes (57 in the intervention group, 37 in the control group). Strength was assessed by means of four tests, while enjoyment of sport was evaluated using a questionnaire item.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>Two of the four tests (push-up, back test) demonstrated notable improvements for the intervention group in comparison to the control group (F<!--> <!-->=<!--> <!-->12.79, η<sub>p</sub><sup>2</sup> <!-->=<!--> <!-->.131; F<!--> <!-->=<!--> <!-->8.54, η<sub>p</sub><sup>2</sup> <!-->=<!--> <!-->.09). It is notable that the strength gains observed in this study are lower than those reported by adolescents who engaged in greater training volumes and higher training frequency in extracurricular training. This aspect of muscle fatigue is termed non-local muscle fatigue. This study aimed to determine whether metabolic alkalosis induced by oral administration of sodium bicarbonate can attenuate non-local muscle fatigue of elbow flexors following sustained submaximal cycling.</div></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><div>Seven healthy men performed a 120-s maximal voluntary contraction of the right biceps brachii muscle immediately after a 20-min submaximal cycling exercise at 70% peak oxygen uptake either with placebo [0.3<!--> <!-->g per kilogram of body weight calcium carbonate] or alkalosis sessions [0.3<!--> <!-->g per kilogram of body weight sodium bicarbonate]. Blood acid–base status was assessed from fingertip arterialized venous blood samples before and after cycling exercise.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>Levels of blood pH, bicarbonate concentration, and base excess were increased in the alkalosis session compared to the placebo session, indicating that metabolic alkalosis was induced in the alkalosis session. The maximal voluntary contraction force of the elbow flexors was significantly (<em>P</em> <!--><<!--> <!-->0.01) reduced immediately after cycling in both sessions; however, there were no significant differences in the maximal voluntary contraction force and electromyogram results of the right biceps brachii between the two sessions. Cardiorespiratory responses (oxygen uptake, minute ventilation, and heart rate) and sense of effort during cycling were not significantly different between the two sessions.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><div>Twenty minutes of submaximal cycling induce non-local muscle fatigue of elbow flexors; however, metabolic alkalosis caused by oral administration of sodium bicarbonate does not influence non-local muscle fatigue. These findings suggest that pre-ingestion of sodium bicarbonate cannot be a practical intervention for reducing non-local muscle fatigue.</div></div><div><h3>Objectif</h3><div>La fatigue musculaire réduit la force volontaire maximale dans d’autres groupes musculaires non impliqués dans la contraction. Jidovtseff","doi":"10.1016/j.scispo.2025.08.005","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.scispo.2025.08.005","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objectifs</h3><div>Cette étude vise à développer et à valider, sur les plans du contenu et de l’apparence, un questionnaire (QCT-CD) destiné aux coureurs, portant spécifiquement sur la pratique du trail de courte distance.</div></div><div><h3>Matériel et méthode</h3><div>L’objectif était de développer un questionnaire permettant de collecter auprès des coureurs des informations sur les différents facteurs internes et externes pouvant influencer et expliquer la performance. Une première version du questionnaire a été présentée à un panel d’experts scientifiques dans la thématique de recherche et/ou de la course en trail. Afin de collecter l’avis des experts, nous avons utilisé un questionnaire structuré avec des questions ouvertes et fermées. Un index de validation de contenu a été calculé pour vérifier la pertinence des différents items et la pertinence globale du questionnaire proposé. Les réponses ouvertes ont été analysées et ont été utilisées pour identifier les points d’amélioration essentiels du questionnaire. Une version améliorée du questionnaire a ensuite été soumise à 18 coureurs de trail. La technique de la « Réflexion à Voix Haute » a été appliquée afin de vérifier la validité apparente de l’outil développé. L’analyse de ces résultats a permis la mise en place d’une version finale du questionnaire.</div></div><div><h3>Résultats</h3><div>Seuls 3 items du questionnaire sur 33 n’ont pas atteint un index de validation de contenu<!--> <!-->≥<!--> <!-->0,8. Des ajustements mineurs ont été proposés afin de tenir compte des commentaires pertinents des experts. Ceux-ci estiment globalement que le questionnaire est un outil pertinent, qu’il remplit l’objectif visé, que la formulation des questions est bonne et que la longueur est adaptée.</div><div>Les coureurs de trail confirment que ce questionnaire est un outil pertinent et complet, qu’il remplit l’objectif visé. However, the potential impact of tangeretin supplementation on athletes remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of oral tangeretin supplementation on serum testosterone and cortisol in sprinters during winter training.</div></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><div>In this double-blinded, placebo-controlled, paired group trial, twenty-four sprinters were randomly assigned to an oral supplement with tangeretin (200<!--> <!-->mg/d) (experimental group [EXP], <em>n</em> <!-->=<!--> <!-->12) or a placebo (control group [CTROL], <em>n</em> <!-->=<!--> <!-->12) for four weeks during a winter training season. Levels of serum testosterone, cortisol, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, and adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) were measured at the first day of each week and the day after the 4-week intervention. Body composition was measured before and after the intervention.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>For EXP, the levels of serum cortisol (<em>P</em> <!-->=<!--> <!-->0.019) and ACTH (<em>P<!--> </em>=<!--> <!-->0.001) significantly decreased, serum testosterone concentration remained unchanged, and SOD activity slightly increased after the 4-week intervention; for CTROL, the level of serum cortisol increased, and serum testosterone concentration (<em>P<!--> </em>=<!--> <!-->0.02) and SOD activity (<em>P<!--> </em>=<!--> <!-->0.014) decreased significantly. Sprinters in both EXP and CTROL increased muscle mass, but the increment in EXP was greater.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusion</h3><div>Four-week oral tangeretin supplementation reduced the oxidative stress response induced by high-intensity exercise training, maintained the serum testosterone concentration, reduced serum cortisol concentration, and promoted muscle protein synthesis in sprinters during a winter training season.</div></div><div><h3>Objectif</h3><div>L’ingestion de tangerétine présente de nombreux avantages pour l’homme. We aimed to compare the efficacy of various exercise modalities in alleviating perinatal depression.</div></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><div>Data were sourced from the PubMed, Web of Science (WOS) and CNKI (1990–2024) for meta-analysis. Standardized mean differences (SMD) were calculated as effect size indicators, and mesh meta-analysis was performed using Stata 16.0. Consistency was evaluated via node-splitting analysis (<em>P</em> <!-->><!--> <!-->0.05). Effect sizes (ES) and 95% CIs interpreted intervention results, while SUCRA values ranked interventions. A corrected funnel plot assessed sample effect estimation and publication bias.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>Our analysis incorporated 48 randomized controlled trials involving a total of 5282 pregnant women to evaluate the effects of exercise interventions, such as muscle stretching, aerobic exercise, and small resistance training, on perinatal depression. Based on the combined effect size calculations, the ranking of maternal depression intervention effectiveness from most effective to least effective was “prenatal aerobic exercise”<!--> <!-->><!--> <!-->“prenatal comprehensive exercise”<!--> <!-->><!--> <!-->“postpartum comprehensive exercise”<!--> <!-->><!--> <!-->“postnatal muscle stretching”<!--> <!-->><!--> <!-->“no exercise”> “postpartum aerobics exercise”<!--> <!-->><!--> <!-->“prenatal muscle stretching”. Our results revealed that prenatal aerobic and comprehensive exercises were significantly more effective in treating depression than postpartum exercise and no exercise.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusion</h3><div>Our study demonstrated that varied and intense exercise during early pregnancy can effectively prevent or reduce depressive symptoms. First, walking without poles (TW) followed by walking with trekking poles (PW), wearing surface electromyography (EMG) sensors recording muscle activation primarily on the paretic side. Inertial measurement units measured UL and LL kinematics, determining gait cycle (subphases: early support, mid-stance to mid swing, terminal swing). Principal component analysis verified muscle synergies.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>Trekking pole use did not elevate activation in the paretic UL (biceps or triceps brachii, TB), except for TB during pole-ground contact (mean difference<!--> <!-->=<!--> <!-->3.86, <em>P</em> <!--><<!--> <!-->0.001). However, it decreased muscle activation in the LL, particularly benefiting the GM muscle in the mid-stance to mid swing (mean difference<!--> <!-->=<!--> <!-->5.47, <em>P</em> <!--><<!--> <!-->0.001) and terminal swing (mean difference<!--> <!-->=<!--> <!-->5.26, <em>P</em> <!--><<!--> <!-->0.001). Muscle synergies remained consistent in both TW and PW. Participant variability had no impact on muscle activation means.</div></div><div><h3>Objectif</h3><div>Cette étude vise à évaluer les adaptations de l’activation musculaire dans les muscles des membres supérieurs (MS) et inférieurs (MI) des personnes post-accident vasculaire cérébral (AVC) pendant la marche avec des bâtons de randonnée, et à discerner la synergie musculaire impliquée.</div></div><div><h3>Matériel et méthodes</h3><div>Neuf participants atteints d’hémiparésie ont marché le long d’un trajet de 10<!--> <!-->mètres à un rythme choisi par eux.
