The instructional design is vital in ensuring that learners obtain effective and meaningful to them for a better subject understanding. However, ignoring the functionality and bugs issues in a courseware development should not be practiced. The courseware developer should acknowledge the importance of instructional design and system development model to meet the user and system requirements. Given the resemblances between software development and instructional design phases, researchers could integrate certain importance techniques in software development model’s phases into the ISD model to enhance the design solutions as well as the application technical parts. This paper highlights the integration of Waterfall model as the software development model with ADDIE model which is one of the established ISD models. The integration of Waterfall-ADDIE model was adopted to develop the digital video learning application for university students. A system testing and user acceptance testing were conducted to validate the courseware can meet the system and user requirements. This paper demonstrates all the phases involved in Waterfall model and ADDIE model are interrelated and practically being integrated to propose high-quality development of instructional design learning material.","PeriodicalId":214089,"journal":{"name":"Asean Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126634813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are part of a tech-savvy generation that lead to the technological progress which always be connected and linked based on their wishes and needs without any hesitation of time and places. They are basically use a technology without guidance but how far they can manage to handle the consequences of the technology usage and problems occur, are always been questionable. It is undeniable the cruciality for a digital native to start having at least a basic of computer knowledge in managing their education and daily life. Learning about the computer science not only helps students to create programs, application or how to handle the devices, but strengthen the practice of Computational Thinking (CT). CT refers to the capacity of learners to systematically tackle unstructured tasks focused on four computing concepts such as decomposition, abstraction, pattern recognition and algorithmic thinking. The purpose of this paper is to study the relationship between CT and Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning (CTML) towards the cognitive load of the learners. This research focuses on CT concept that will be integrated with the Mayer’s CTML in designing the learning material for young digital natives. Researcher therefore proposes a conceptual framework that aims to comprehend how to facilitate the cruciality of CT concepts in Mayer’s CTML when designing the instructional learning. The proposed conceptual framework adds value in tackling the cognitive load among students, particularly in the context of the digital native generation. This paper provides several implications and highlights for further studies through comprehensive and wide-ranging literature review.","PeriodicalId":214089,"journal":{"name":"Asean Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115627772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most universities, including Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) have adapted to online exams. This paper presents an analysis of online final examination performances of 251 students from the Science and Medicine Foundation Centre, UniSZA who completed foundation for 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 sessions. The objective of this research is to compare the final scores of Semester 2 for the students from both sessions to see if there is a significant difference between the two, based on subjects of Mathematics II, Physics II, Chemistry II, Biology II and Information Technology II. Students were taking online exams at home and university’s accommodation for the students from the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 session intakes, respectively. The statistical analysis was performed by comparing two means to attain standard deviation via the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The P-value for each test is calculated to lead to rejection of null hypothesis, which is less than 0.05. The results revealed that the p-value for all subjects is less than 0.001, implying that the probability value for all subjects is less than the significance level at 0.05, which is 1.6449. As a result, the null hypothesis is rejected for all five subjects, supporting the research hypothesis. It was concluded that the performances of the students from the 2019/2020 session obtained a higher score than the performances of the students from the 2020/2021 session.","PeriodicalId":214089,"journal":{"name":"Asean Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education","volume":"209 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120998192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fallout is a new breed of students who are exposed to restricted and compromised teaching and learning methods via online platforms amidst this COVID -19 pandemic. Therefore, this innovation aims to explore the application of active learning among undergraduate medical students through virtual TBL. In this pilot study, the concept of medical genetics is introduced virtually through utilizing online platforms, Microsoft TeamsTM and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Learning Management System (UKMFolioTM), while maintaining the principles of TBL. Emphasis is placed on applied learning to apply the fundamental knowledge learnt during the preparation phase through team discussions and subsequent pitching presentations. Our study indicates no significant difference (p=0.404) in the mean score of students who participated in conventional face-to-face TBL sessions and virtual TBL. This suggests that active and self-directed learning can be integrated through virtual means with reproducible excellent results as with conventional face-to-face TBL. Nonetheless, issues related to Internet stability and insufficient content experts must be addressed if we are to tackle successful virtual teaching and learning.","PeriodicalId":214089,"journal":{"name":"Asean Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124673876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Online communication is crucial for students to be actively involved in the class, not just to communicate with the educators but also to communicate amongst themselves to form communities of learning typically formed through physical classes in pre-Covid-19 times. We created questionnaires through Google Form pertaining online communication amongst students in both Malay and Turkish languages. While Malaysia has a rich cultural structure with a wide variety of ethnic origins, Turkey acts as a bridge between the European and Asian continents at the western end of the Asian continent. In this study, we consider the geographies of different cultural structures in order to investigate communication behaviors of students in response to the transformation of higher education to online only during Covid-19. The data from the questionnaire is analyzed to highlight communication platforms utilized by students during the pandemic. Although there are differences in both studies of Malaysian and Turkish students, the similarities of online communication platforms preferred by many students such as WhatsApp and Instagram stand out. Interestingly, we see that male students, both Malaysian and Turkish, use more varied and diverse form of online communications platforms. Moreover, more female students from Turkey are shown to communicate face-to-face with their friends compared to their male counterparts.","PeriodicalId":214089,"journal":{"name":"Asean Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129871078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
