Out of a total of 175 professors, 17.14 % have a PhD degree; 8.74 % are professional doctors; and 37.71% have a MSc degree. 17.14 % of the teachers are in the rank of specialist or professional expert. 19.42 % do not have a graduate degree. Most of the doctors are concentrated in three universities. There is a greater number of professors with professional graduate studies in clinical issues, while in the basic cycle there is a greater proportion of teachers with PhD degrees. Given the shortage of teachers with advanced academic degrees, the clear oversupply of graduates in VM and VMZ regarding demand, and the scarcity of plans for teacher specialization, it is desirable to restrain the opening of new programs. This study can help to project plans for human talent development in programs of VM and VMZ in Colombian institutions.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"275 1","pages":"29-38"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90633935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There were two visits to the farm, one during the dry season ( January) and another one in the rainy season (May), to check 250 animals in each season, which were 100 males and 150 females of different races living on the farm. Microscopic agglutination test was used to determine the presence of antibodies to the six serovars that have been identified as the most frequent in Colombia in different domestic species. The results of the study indicated that the most common serovar in sheep was L. interrogans serovar Icterohaemorrhagiae, followed by L. interrogans serovar Bratislava, L. borgpetersenii serovar Hardjo, L. interrogans serovars Canicola, Pomona and Grippotyphosa. The research concluded that, even though there were no clinical cases reported during the study, leptospirosis associated with different serovars in sheep suggests the presence of the agent in the herd; new studies would be necessary to deepen our knowledge on the effect this would have on reproduction.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"225 1","pages":"11-20"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83378897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They can replace plates and intramedullary nails in many situations. They are inexpensive, easy to apply, and the surgical time required to install them is often much less than what is needed to place a plate or an intramedullary nail. These devices have proven to be very effective to counteract the mechanical forces produced in the focus of the fracture. This article aims to describe five cases that illustrate the usefulness of this device in orthopedic surgery of small species.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"34 1","pages":"109-120"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91109915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and methods : As a non-invasive technique, camera traps were used during a sampling period of fifteen weeks, with seven cameras, rotating them every three weeks, and using baits to facilitate observation. A final rotation was performed to determine relative abundance, which lasted three months. Results : During the entire sampling period, 23 species were recorded: 11 from the Mammalia class and 12 from the bird class; with a total effort of 1099 days/trap. The photos obtained in each sampling station allowed to analyze the relationship among the species found; five species of wild cats were also recorded. The 13.043 % of all recorded species are in a risk category according to international standards. Conclusions : As the basis of this study, there was observed, for the first time, the macrovertebrate wildlife living in the forest area of the Santa Ines practice center, where various mammals and birds were recorded; this shows the effectiveness of camera traps. The pattern of activity of the recorded species determined diurnal and nocturnal habits.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"7 1","pages":"53-65"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91223579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adult male jumping horses in training, mixed breed of Argentine and Colombian Creole (n = 9), were measured. The analyzed measurements were wither height (WH), thoracic perimeter (TP), body length (BL), hind leg perimeter (HLP), actual weight (AW), estimated weight (EW), backfat thickness (BT), rump fat thickness (RFT), and loin eye area (LEA). To estimate fattening, body mass index (based on morphometric measurements) and body fat percentage (based on fat measurements by ultrasound) were calculated. Descriptive statistics and principal component analysis were performed. The averages found for WH, TP, BL, HLP, AW, EW, BT, RFT, and LEA were 1.69 ± 0.02 m, 1.89 ± 0.04 m, 1.67 ± 0.07 m, 26 ± 1.82 m, 526 ± 36 kg, 525 ± 33 kg, 2.34 ± 0.32 mm, 2.12 ± 0.15 mm, and 58 ± 4.7 cm 2 , respectively. The estimated average body mass index was 183.97 ± 11, and the average body fat percentage was 14.07 ± 0.85. The two methods for estimating fattening (r = 0.41) were significantly correlated.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"31 1","pages":"67-77"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83089446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A descriptive and transversal bibliometric study was performed, with an internet search strategy based on the combination of keywords and Boolean operators used in databases such as Science Direct, Web of Knowledge, Scopus, and Proquest. Peru has many hyperendemic areas of fascioliosis in cattle and sheep (>50 %), which are within the highest in the world. Goats only have mesoendemic infection rates (10-50 %). The age group of full mouth goats presents the most prevalence within all three species, but the variable of sex shows no significant difference.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"22 1","pages":"121-129"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82416698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several studies on the use of complementary diagnostic methods, such as an electrocardiogram (ECG), in equine cardiology. Despite this, there are no baseline data for the case of Colombian Creole horses (CCH). This study aimed to describe the electrocardiographic tracings of 57 CCH patients at the Clinica Veterinaria Lasallista, with prior discharge and no obvious clinical abnormalities. ECGs were performed on animals divided into age groups. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance, and correlation coefficients were used. From each group, ranges of the amplitude and duration of various waves, intervals and segments were obtained. The only statistically significant difference was evidenced in the duration of the P-wave and the PR interval between age groups. Some of the ECG parameters had correlations with weight, age, and heart rate. This study makes an important contribution for those occasions when it is necessary to use electrocardiograms to validate the information obtained in clinical examination or in case of a suspected heart disease in CCHs, mainly, in case of arrhythmias.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"9 1","pages":"39-51"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81178913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on these investigations, different approaches have been developed; among them, the model proposed by Henderson-Hasselbalch (H-H) is the most widespread in the medical and medical-veterinary community. In recent years, another method proposed by Stewart has gained importance, and it corresponds to the strong ion difference, which aims to take a broader look in order to understand the different processes involved in acid-base balance. Both in human and veterinary medicine, one of the most common acid-base disorder in ICUs is hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis, which results from vomiting in humans and from abomasal disorders in ruminants. This disorder can remain for long periods during which acidic urine occurs and it is known as paradoxical aciduria develops. This article reviews the different pathophysiological mechanisms occurring during this acid-base disorder and the different approaches to explain its occurrence.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"116 1","pages":"131-141"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86543057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
