Abstract A small dairy goat farm in central Chile stocked their troughs with ornamental plants and grasses, which were obtained after pruning the gardens of neighboring sectors. Twelve hours after the goats ingested this food, the farm registered a death toll of eight goats, all of which were adult females in their productive stage, before entering the milking parlor. The mortality episode lasted 84 hours and produced mortality and morbidity values of 48 and 54 percent, respectively (n = 52). During a visit to the farm, clinic inspections, autopsies, and sample tissues were obtained for microscopic analysis (the tissues specimens were fixed in 10% buffered formaldehyde solution). The clinic inspection and microscopic analysis both confirmed that the animals had cardiovascular disease. The lesions were compatible with those produced by cardiac glycosides. During the site visit, Nerium oleander was found in the troughs, which suggested that the animals were poisoned by eating this plant. There was a high presence of this plant in the poisoned area, and it was not associated with the mortality episode before the on-site visit, which indicates that the authors should conduct training and inform producers about the handling and feeding of their animals.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"37 1","pages":"43-48"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74000970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Esto conduce a la existencia de aves, sin una finalidad concreta, en refugios dedicados a la conservación. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo relatar la cría de guacamayos en peligro de extinción como herramienta para la conservación, usando guacamayos híbridos a manera de padres sustitutos, dentro del plan de manejo del Centro de rescate, rehabilitación y reubicación de fauna, \"La Esmeralda\", Argentina. Las hembras híbridas colocaron huevos estériles, los cuales fueron reemplazados por huevos de otras especies puras de guacamayos como Ara glaucogularis, A. rubrogenys, A. severus del programa 2015. Dichos padres híbridos incubaron, cuidaron excelentemente de las crías y enseñaron todas las herramientas necesarias para el normal desenvolvimiento de estas tanto dentro como fuera del nido, con lo cual se superó a la cría artificial, ya que eliminó la impronta humana y paralelamente a ello, el retiro de huevos a los padres originales hizo que los mismos tuvieran hasta dos posturas más por temporada. Se realizaron muestreos aleatorios entre septiembre y diciembre de 2014, en 187 animales adultos presentes en cinco barrios de Covenas, donde se caracterizo fenotipicamente cada animal. La nomenclatura utilizada esta en concordancia con el Committee Standardized Genetic Nomenclature For Cats (1968), y atiende a los marcadores autosomicos de codificacion morfologica: el locus ligado al sexo Orange (O) y los loci autosomicos non-agouti (a), tabby blotched (Tb), dilution (d), long hair (l) spotting white (s) y dominant white (W). Se calcularon los parametros geneticos poblacionales: frecuencia alelica, diversidad genetica, flujo genico, equilibrio Hardy-Weinberg y distancia genetica, y se infirieron las relaciones filogeneticas entre las poblaciones de gatos. Se encontro que el marcador non-agouti fue el de mayor frecuencia, mientras los genes tabby blotched y dominant white presentaron los valores mas bajos. La mayor parte de la diversidad genetica se encontro dentro de las poblaciones (HS) y poca entre las poblaciones (DST) y un elevado flujo genico. Se observo un exceso de heterocigotos en la poblacion. No hubo equilibrio Hardy-Weinberg. Las poblaciones se encuentran muy relacionadas geneticamente. The genetic parameters of the population were calculated: allele frequency, genetic diversity, gene flow, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, and genetic distance; and phylogenetic relationships among cat populations were inferred. It was found that the Non-agouti marker was the most frequent, while the tabby blotched and dominant white genes had the lowest values. Se utilizo informacion de 5 vacas holstein en produccion de la finca El Recreo, ubicada en el municipio de Abejorral, Colombia. Se les tomo la temperatura superficial cada 2 h durante 15 dias en 10 sitios diferentes: linea dorsal anterior, media y posterior, flanco derecho e izquierdo, pecho, cuello derecho e izquierdo, vulva y glandula mamaria, con termometro infrarrojo. Para evaluar el efecto de la temperatura ambiente en la corporal se utilizo un indice que involucra la temperatura, la humedad, la radiacion y la velocidad del viento (THSW) y para el analisis estadistico se utilizo un modelo mixto aditivo generalizado suavizado. El THSW encontrado fue de 10 y 27 °C. Las areas muestreadas tuvieron una diferencia en la temperatura; las de color negro fueron las de mayor temperatura superficial. Oscilaron entre 32,5 y 35,8 °C para zonas blancas, y entre 34,5 y 40,5 °C para zonas negras. Los mayores valores de temperatura superficial para ambas zonas en todos los puntos se presentaron a mayores valores de THSW. Se concluye que el indice THSW tiene efecto diferenciado en la temperatura superficial corporal de acuerdo con el color del pelaje; los puntos negros fueron los que presentaron mayores temperaturas. EnglishThe article evaluates the effect of ambient temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, and wind speed according to the THSW index on the surface temperature of the white and black areas of the coat of Holstein cows. The study used information of five Holstein dairy cows from the El Recreo farm, located in the municipality of Abejorral, Colombia. Surface temperature was measured with an infrared thermometer every 2 h during 15 days in 10 different sites: anterior, middle, and posterior dorsal line, right and left flank, chest, right and left neck, vulva, and mammary gland. To evaluate the effect of ambient temperature on body temperature, an index that involves temperature, humidity, solar radiation, and wind speed (THSW) was used, and for statistical analysis, a mixed generalized additive model. THSW was 10 and 27 °C. The sampled areas had a difference in temperature; being the black spots that had higher surface temperature. Temperature oscillated between 32.5 and 35.8 °C for white areas, and between 34.5 and 40.5 °C for black areas. Higher surface temperature values for both zones at all points had higher THSW values. It is concluded that the THSW index has a differentiated effect on body surface temperature according to the color of the coat, the black spots having higher temperatures. portuguesO artigo reporta a avaliacao do efeito da temperatura ambiente, a umidade relativa, a radiacao solar e a velocidade do corpo sob o indice THSW na temperatura superficial de areas brancas e neg","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"33 1","pages":"97-107"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88759067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
