However, there are several factors that can interfere with the quality of a good restoration. Objective the objective of the present study is to carry out a retrospective evaluation of the clinical performance of Class II restorations performed by undergraduate students of Dentistry at the Escola São Francisco de Assis (ESFA), and to identify the main errors. Material and method we selected the medical records of patients treated in the disciplines of Dentistry II, Integrated I and II in the Dentistry clinic at ESFA, which presented detailed information on the Class II procedure, as well as initial radiographic examinations, using the FDI method. The sample consisted of 33 medical records that included 72 teeth. Result it was observed that more than 80% of the restorations were classified as acceptable. And, only 19.44% of the restorations were unacceptable, failing due to functional and biological properties. Conclusion it was found that undergraduate students in Dentistry at ESFA, who are guided by professors to perform treatments following pre-established clinical protocols, are capable of carrying out quality restorative procedures.","PeriodicalId":21363,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Odontologia da UNESP","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67175276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nurses’ comprehensive assessment of older persons’ health is highlighted, including using tools for screening dental treatment needs. Objective to report the intra- and inter-observer reliability of older adults’ oral health assessment in LTC facilities by video. Material and method descriptive study, in three LTC facilities, in the Florianópolis region, Southern Brazil. Data were collected according to Oral Health Assessment Tool (OHAT), which presents 8 categories (“lips, tongue, gums/tissues, saliva, natural teeth, dentures, dental hygiene, and toothache”), and the scores 0=healthy, 1=presence of changes (could be a need for care), 2=unhealthy (need for dental service); final score from 0 to 16. In each LTC facility, a Nurse assessed oral conditions and made a video of each older adult using a smartphone. The dentist performed the oral health assessment through the videos. Estimated Kappa test, p<0.05. Result the sample was 34 older adults, 71% were female. Interobserver reliability between Nurses 1 and 2 and Dentist for “lips” and “natural teeth” was classified as poor and excellent/very good for toothache and denture conditions. The nurse’s intraobserver reliability was classified as weak for the “natural teeth” assessment. Conclusion the OHAT showed reliability for assessing denture conditions and pain. However, nurses’ training for recognizing oral conditions that require dental care is suggested, as well as the management of this action by the dentist and LTC facilities.","PeriodicalId":21363,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Odontologia da UNESP","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67175406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Porém, fatores locais com osso de baixa intensidade podem interferir negativamente na obtenção da estabilidade primária. Objetivo O presente estudo avaliou o efeito de diferentes direções, velocidades de rotação e sistemas de fresagem na expansão de perfurações e estabilidade de implantes instalados em blocos mimetizando osso do tipo IV. Material e método Foram instalados 50 implantes em blocos de poliuretano sólido rígido. Esses implantes foram igualmente divididos em cinco grupos (n = 10): 1) Fresa Maximus (utilizadas no sentido horário a 1200rpm); 2) Fresa Maximus (utilizadas no sentido horário a 600rpm); 3) Fresa Neodent (utilizadas no sentido horário a 800rpm); 4) Fresa Neodent (utilizadas no sentido anti-horário a 800rpm); 5) Fresa Neodent (utilizadas no sentido anti-horário a 600rpm). Foram executadas análises de estabilidade dos implantes através de testes de torque de inserção e remoção, além das análises de frequência de ressonância. Adicionalmente, a expansão associada às perfurações promovida pelas brocas foi avaliada por meio de análises tomográficas. Resultado Verificou-se que os implantes instalados após o preparo da perfuração com as brocas Maximus a 600rpm apresentaram valores de torque de inserção maiores, quando comparados ao grupo de implantes instalados em perfurações confeccionadas com brocas Neodent. Ademais, as brocas Maximus apresentaram valores de expansão maiores que as brocas Neodent. Objective To assess the quality or degradation of trabecular bone microarchitecture in digital panoramic radiography to better predict the risk of fragility fractures. Material and method The sample included 68 female patients, age-matched, and divided into three groups according to densitometric results. Trabecular Bone Score values were measured and digital panoramic radiographs were taken. Fractal analysis with box counting was conducted in the region of premolars and angle of the mandible, with regions of interest measuring 64×64 and 80×120 pixels. In the statistical analysis, Pearson’s correlation was applied between the Trabecular Bone Score and fractal analysis results obtained in each group, using age as a control variable and assigning individualized age ranges within groups. Result A moderate correlation was identified in the regions of interest of 64×64 and 80×120 pixels at the angle of the mandible in the osteoporosis group and in the normal group. A moderate correlation was also obtained using age as a control variable in the 64x64 pixel regions of interest in the premolar region. Considering age range, the within-group analysis presented a strong correlation in the osteoporosis group and moderate correlation in the osteopenia and normal groups. Conclusion Fractal analysis in digital panoramic radiographs was shown to be a promising predictive instrument of bone microarchitecture quality.","PeriodicalId":21363,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Odontologia da UNESP","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67176282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among them are the critical size defects (CSD) created in rat calvaria. An experimental model has been described in the literature, in which “L” markings are performed on the margins of the bone defects in order to assist in the precise identification of these defects during laboratory processing and analysis of the results. In the proposed model, the “L” markings are filled with amalgam. Objective The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the amalgam replacement of an experimental bony defect model in rat calvaria by heated or unheated glass ionomer. Material and method 24 rats were used. A 5 mm CSD was created at each animal calvaria. Two “L” shaped markings were made 2 mm from the margins of the bone defect, filled with amalgam (Group AM), heated glass ionomer cement (Group GIh) or not (Group GI). The animals were euthanized 15 days postoperatively. The areas of the surgical defect and the L-shaped marking were histomorphometrically analyzed and the data were analyzed statistically (p <0.05). Result There were no significant clinical, histological or methodological differences among the experimental groups. Conclusion It can be concluded that GI can replace AM in the proposed experimental model and GI heating did not promote additional benefits.","PeriodicalId":21363,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Odontologia da UNESP","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67174562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
