In fact, when designed by taking into account the full scattering phenomena, they are able to directly provide information about the physical properties of the target under test. In this paper, the possibility of detecting metallic inclusions inside dielectric objects is assessed by using a prototype of a microwave axial tomograph, which is able to create images of the dielectric permittivity and of the electric conductivity of the inspected target.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"141 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116207595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, a method is presented to improve their comparably low spatial resolution in the direction of the incident beam by performing a one-dimensional object scan instead of a single data acquisition. The series of measurements taken under different object positions allows reconstruction of the signal contributions from individual voxels at a significantly enhanced resolution. The type of reconstruction used can be regarded as a two-dimensional deconvolution or solving an inverse problem. Due to the specific shape of the convolution kernel the problem turns out to be ill-posed, and thus its solution using measured (noisy) data requires application of a suitable regularization method. Detailed studies on this issue led to the development of a novel iterative algorithm combining several deconvolution runs with preceding and intermediate image processing steps. The Tikhonov method was used for regularization. However, depending on the object under investigation the original Euclidean norm (least squares fit) was advantageously replaced by the 1-norm (least absolute deviation, LAD problem). The algorithm was tested using simulated and measured data sets of different material compositions under pencil beam irradiation. The results demonstrate the significant increase in spatial resolution achieved by means of the method.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125218237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Preliminary results indicate that enhanced discrimination between normal and different types of lung cancer cell stages can be achieved based on their transmitted intensities and depolarization properties of the cells. Specifically, the sizes of the nuclei of the cancer cells and the nucleus-to-cytoplasmic ratios appear to have potential impact on the detected polarimetric signatures leading to enhanced discrimination of lung cancer cells.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127642297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method is based on an improved non-linear version of the classic Difference of Gaussians, which exhibits increased sensitivity to low contrast. Additionally, it does not employ computationally expensive or memory demanding routines. In order to evaluate the degree of illumination invariance that the proposed, as well as, other existing detectors exhibit, a new benchmark image database has been created. It features a greater variety of imaging conditions, compared to existing databases, containing real scenes under various degrees and combinations of uniform and non-uniform illumination. Experimental results show that the proposed detector extracts greater number of features, with high level of repeatability, compared to other existing ones. These results are evident for both uniform and non-uniform illumination, evincing a favorable usage of the proposed feature detector by robotic platforms working in outdoor working environments.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117052064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this system, most functions, e.g. signal generation, phase-sensitive demodulator and low-pass filters, are implemented digitally in FPGA. Tomographic software in Visual C++ has been developed for real-time data acquisition, image re-construction and visualization and parameter calculation. Having been specially optimized for ECT measurement, the custom-built hardware and software are capable of achieving acquisition rate of >; 1000fps. The developed ECT system has been applied in online monitoring of a pneumatic conveying system that is to be used for mine out area refilling. Regional flow parameters could be obtained according to specific subregion division. In addition, having been tested on the pneumatic conveying system for several days, the ECT system is proved to be reliable and durable.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121424867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A mechanical lens shutter is implemented in camera's system to control the exposure time precisely. In this paper, the designing principle of a lens shutter based on rotary solenoid was analyzed and a measurement method for the shutter's switching time was proposed. A laboratory set of shutter and a testing unit based on photo detector was set up, and the shutter's opening duration, closing duration and switching delay time were measured. The experimental data was analyzed and the result indicated that error of switching time is acceptable and this kind of mechanical lens shutter is with good stability. This shutter has small volume, light weight, simple structure and low power consumption, and is very suitable for airborne full frame camera.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122600528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the LASIS(Large Aperture Static Imaging Spectrometer) system, if the optical system has distortion, it may lead to inadequate sampling, which means that it couldn't satisfy the Nyquist sampling theorem, causing the recovery spectrum distortion. Because the larger the distortion, the lower the registration precision, it's very hard to correct the distortion effect, thus, it is useful to analyze the influence of optical system distortion on the image quality. An optical distortion model is developed in the paper to evaluate the optical design, the distortion data is calculated from the optical design software and the influence of optical system distortion on the data acquired by LASIS is analyzed.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128745959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, a microscope camera system contains a fixed lens; this means the whole camera has to be moved to detect focus images. During the heating up or cooling down process the thermo-mechanical expansion influences the measurement results. For the calibration, a pixel-by-pixel registration of individual images is required. The issues concerning finding the focus image and guarantee a pixel-by-pixel overlap in the image sequence are solved by the proposed auto focus and the image correlation algorithm. To detect the focus position and corresponding focus image, passive focusing is used, where a focus curve is recorded. The gradient operator is used to compute the focus value. Image registration is applied to compute the distortion between the images and guarantee a pixel-by-pixel overlap. In our case, the most significant parameter is the displacement, hence a simple image correlation algorithm is implemented.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115233647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
