A Narrative Review
Subacromial pain disorder being the common presentation of shoulder pain is one among the prevalent musculoskeletal disorders. Variations in scapular kinematics are often associated with different conditions of shoulder pain. Increased scapular internal rotation decreased scapular upward rotation and decreased posterior tilt are common changes. Its still unclear whether shoulder pain is caused by or caused by altered scapular motion. This study aims to determine the certainties and uncertainties pertaining to Scapular Dyskinesis. A database search was conducted in PubMed MEDLINE SCOPUS and Google Scholar for studies including Scapular Dyskinesis as a condition as well as functional adaptation. Scapular Dyskinesis has been linked to an increased risk of shoulder pain in athletes and its possible that this is also true in the general population. Its been discovered in overhead athletes as a variation. A lack of definitive reliability exists in the measures used to determine Scapular location. There was also no evidence of a cause-and-effect relationship between Scapular Dyskinesis and shoulder pathology in studies. In terms of Scapular Dyskinesis there are certainties and uncertainties. There have been gaps in the cause-effect relationship of Scapular Dyskinesis and shoulder pathology and also the evaluation of scapula role in dynamic activity. As a result more research is necessary to understand the significance of Scapular Dyskinesis and its function in both healthy people and people with shoulder dysfunctions.nbsp

Irrespective of the areas they live in i.e. urban and rural smoking became habitual in Indian population in many ways. By mid-2030 tobacco related deaths would rise to 10 million a year. Cigarette smoking affects respiratory function and is an obvious implication in the aetiology of various respiratory infections especially chronic bronchitis emphysema and bronchial carcinoma. This investigation was conducted to find out the lung function in smokers and non-smokers among college students. Objective To evaluate the respiratory functioning in smokers and non-smokers among college students.Method A samples of 50 students both male and females in the age group of 18 - 25 years fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected for this case-control study.Outcome measure Lung function Questionnaire LFQ.Results The results show that the overall risk is less as the odds ratio from no risk upon. Risk is more than I but in case of smokers the risk is high. Conclusion The study concludes that there is a significant depletion of lung function in smokers in contrast to non-smokers.
Background and Aim Scapula plays an important role in\u0000 shoulder function and requires both significant mobility and stability of\u0000 the shoulder complex. Muscles such as levator scapulae rhomboids serratus\u0000 anterior and trapezius play an important role in rotational movements and\u0000 scapular stabilization. Scapula also plays a very important role in\u0000 coordinating and maintaining the shoulder kinematics. Functionally the\u0000 muscles of scapula stabilizing the scapula is vital during pulling throwing\u0000 and overhead arm movements. Thus any injury to the scapula leads to muscle\u0000 weakness resulting in functional limitations such as throwing pulling and\u0000 performing overhead activities. Scapular muscle weakness can also cause\u0000 scapular dyskinesia which is the abnormal mobility or function of the\u0000 scapula and the scapular bony prominence will be prominent. Thus\u0000 strengthening of scapular muscles is very important for the prevention of\u0000 scapular dyskinesis. There are limited studies with respect to strength\u0000 profile in collegiate students. Hence there is a need to understand the\u0000 strength profile of scapular muscles in college students. The objective of\u0000 this study was to determine the strength profile of scapular\u0000 muscles.Methodology This was an observational study involving 111 subjects.\u0000 The participants were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria\u0000 from a physiotherapy college. The participants in the age group of 18-23\u0000 years with a normal range of motion ROM were recruited. Exclusion criteria\u0000 included participants with any recent fractures of upper limb any kind of\u0000 limited shoulder disorders neuron disorders participants with limited\u0000 shoulder ROM due to pain and or stiffness. Strength was assessed using\u0000 dynamometer and lateral pulldown machine for the individual shoulder\u0000 muscles. A descriptive analysis was conducted in this study and the data\u0000 were presented as strength measured in pounds lbs. Results The strength\u0000 profile of scapular muscles for both men and women in the age group 18-22\u0000 years was presented in pounds lbs. Among men strength of right-side\u0000 rhomboids 16.04plusmn5.64 right side middle trapezius 15.56 plusmn5.79 and\u0000 for right side lower trapezius 16.30plusmn5.77 were higher than the left\u0000 sided strength for the same muscles. Even among women strength of right-side\u0000 rhomboids 18.99plusmn9.69 right sided middle trapezius 17.75plusmn9.60 and\u0000 right sided lower trapezius 18.53plusmn9.53 were greater compared to left\u0000 side. Conclusion From this study it was concluded that young men have more\u0000 strength compared to young women. As no data regarding normative values is\u0000 available the values obtained in our study cannot be compared to normal\u0000 values. However the analysis showed that right side has more strength in\u0000 both men and women.

Snoring if not addressed leads to obstructive sleep apnea which thereby increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Objective To evaluate the effect of incentive spirometry in subjects with snoring.Materials and Method Thirty subjects both male and female with snoring within age group of 20 to 60 years performed incentive spirometry exercise with 10 repetitions four times a day for four weeks. The outcome measures overnight recording of pulse oximeter and SOS Snore Outcome Survey questionnaire were recorded at the start and the end of the entire session.Result Paired t-test t1.425 was carried out to compare the mean and SDs of pre-test and post-test scores and were found to be non-significant pgt0.05. Wilcoxon test z4.065 was carried out to compare the mean and standard deviations of pre-test and post-test scores which was found to be highly significant plt0.001.Conclusion This study concluded that the effect of incentive spirometry in subjects with snoring was not statistically significant but clinically significant. In subjects with less severe snoring no significant effects were noticed in the overnight oxygen saturation.
