Loaded inspiratory exercise has been demonstrated in studies to lower blood pressure. However the optimal intensity and duration of loaded training to control hypertension is not known. The objective of the present study was to compare the effect of 10 cm loaded inspiratory training with that of 20 cm loaded training in controlling hypertension after third and sixth week.Methodology Thirty subjects with essential hypertension stage I or II were included and randomized into two groups. Group A received inspiratory loaded training with 20 cm of water loaded training and Group B received inspiratory loaded training with 10 cm of water loaded training. Training was performed at home for 30 minutes every day twice daily for 3 weeks. Blood pressure was measured at baseline before the intervention after 3rd and 6th week.Results Both the groups showed statistically significant reduction in blood pressure after six weeks of loaded training plt.0001. However on comparing the groups both the groups were equally effective in reducing blood pressure after 3rd and 6th week of training p values ndash Systolic gt.850 gt.268 Diastolic gt.761gt.304 respectively.Conclusion Loaded training can reduce both systolic and diastolic hypertension after six weeks of training. There was no difference in effectiveness of 10 cm loaded inspiratory training when compared to 20 cm loaded training in controlling hypertension after 3rd and 6th week.","PeriodicalId":213234,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Physiotherapy","volume":"27 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124920656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

People with CKD have a greater likelihood for decreased function and quality of life QoL. It is important to encourage and incorporate exercises and physical activity to maintain healthy and active life.Aim The objectives of this study were to evaluate the adherence to exercise programme by patients diagnosed with CKD undergoing dialysis and to identify potential barriers for the same.Methods The observational study was carried out in the dialysis unit of a tertiary hospital. A total of 42 patients undergoing dialysis as outpatients in the hospital were enrolled for the study. The baseline outcome measures of joint range of motion and maximum repetition rate MRR testing of the selected muscles were done. Strengthening exercises by using resistance bands were carried out during haemodialysis and a home exercise program HEP to be followed on the remaining five days of the week was taught to the patients. At the end of three months adherence to the exercise regimen was evaluated using a questionnaire.Results At the end of 12 weeks 52 of the patients adhered to exercises during dialysis and 48 adhered to HEP. Conclusion Adherence to strengthening exercise programme in patients undergoing haemodialysis as outpatients in a tertiary hospital was found to be average. It is clinically essential to take this adherence rate into consideration while prescribing exercise program for patients undergoing dialysis.","PeriodicalId":213234,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Physiotherapy","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128340447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This review of literature aims to investigate the impact Worksite Wellness Programs have on the physiological and psychological health-related outcomes in white-collar workers. Electronic databases including PubMed Web of Science and CINAHL were screened. Publications between 2010 and 2020 were included. A total of nine studies were reviewed. Six out of nine studies showed positive improvements in physical health characteristics like BMI fat mass waist circumference occupational sitting time and step counts. Four out of nine studies showed significant differences in psychological outcomes like quality of life emotional exhaustion ruminative depression and other stress-related symptoms. No significant changes were found in job satisfaction performance and cognitive function. The study yielded mixed results regarding the impact of wellness programs on health outcomes. There exists strong evidence demonstrating the impact of Worksite wellness programs on major physiological outcomes such as BMI step counts waist circumference sitting time waist-to-hip ratio and blood pressure. Significant reductions in major psychological outcomes such as anxiety and depression were reported.","PeriodicalId":213234,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Physiotherapy","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122697770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sternum pain signifies the pain in the thoracic cavity that contains the sternum and the cartilage connecting it to the ribs. Patients who experience pain after any cardiac surgery may also experience prolonged immobilization insufficient respiratory functions and the inability to cough as a result of the surgical procedure specifically post median sternotomy. TENS has been shown to be effective in acute and chronic pain in both medical and surgical conditions in multiple studies conducted since 1970. This review was conducted to document the effectiveness and also the parameters of TENS used post Coronary Artery Bypass Graft CABG to relieve pain and improve parameters like functional capacity cardiopulmonary endurance length of hospital stay etc. The review concluded that many studies documented the effectiveness in post-operative CABG patients however some studies stated that it was less effective than other forms of pain relief. The parameters of TENS used in all the randomised control trials have been documented in the results.The clinical application of this review is that TENS can be used as an adjunct treatment in post-operative sternal pain patients on an inpatient and outpatient basis which will be working on other parameters functional capacity cardiopulmonary endurance length of hospital stay apart from pain relief and eventually helps in improving the quality of life of the patients.","PeriodicalId":213234,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Physiotherapy","volume":"563 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116251680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During task-oriented training a variety of movements are practiced to reduce compensatory movements and to increase adaptive movements. Postural instability and resulting falls are major factors determining quality of life morbidity and mortality in individuals with Parkinsonrsquos disease. So the present study aimed to determine the effect of task-oriented exercises with and without altered sensory input on balance and falls in subjects with Parkinsonrsquos disease.Objective To determine and compare the effect of task-oriented exercises with altered sensory input and task-oriented exercises without altered sensory input on balance and falls efficacy in subjects with Parkinsonrsquos disease.Method Thirty subjects between the age group of 60-75 years diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinsonrsquos disease were randomly assigned to one of the two groups Group A and Group B. They participated in a task-oriented exercise program for 1 hour in a day 3 times per week for 6 weeks focusing on balance and falls. Exercises were performed under conditions of vision and surface manipulation with altered sensory input in Group A and under normal conditions without altered sensory input in Group B. Pre-and post-assessment of balance and falls was done using Berg Balance Scale and Falls Efficacy Scale-International.Results Both the groups showed statistically significant improvement in balance and falls reduction Plt0.001. But when both the groups were compared there was an improvement of balance and falls reduction that was statistically more significant in Group A than in Group B plt0.05.Conclusion This study concluded that task oriented exercises both with or without altered sensory input were beneficial in improving balance and reducing falls. But altering the sensory input was found to be more beneficial in these subjects.","PeriodicalId":213234,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Physiotherapy","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125176885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The measurement of cervical rotation supposedly a part of cervical spine can be used as a clinical methodology for differential diagnosis. In this study Selective Functional Movement Assessment SFMA scale has been used to identify impaired mobility in cervical spine. Since there are limited studies to identify movement disorders associated with cervical headache further research to determine dysfunctional movement patterns in cervical segment may provide an accurate approach towards diagnosis and treatment of cervicogenic headache.Method Two hundred forty healthy subjects aged 18 to 66 years were assigned to the study after meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Each subject was assessed using seven top-tier SFMA tests to identify any type of pre-existing movement disorder.Result The interpretation of this study is more or less likely in both genders male and female. Subjects with cervicogenic headache showed significant movement dysfunction in cervical flexion CF with dysfunctional painful movement DPM Upper extremity pattern-2 UEP-2 with functionally painful movement FPM and Cervical Extension CE with dysfunctional non-painful movement.Conclusion The study shows that most of cervicogenic headaches are susceptible to musculoskeletal and movement dysfunctions with growing age. The operative use of the SFMA as a system or tool used to qualitatively evaluate movement at initial examination and to direct subsequent intervention choices would be helpful.","PeriodicalId":213234,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Physiotherapy","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122346844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
