The objective of this work was to evaluate the impact of Non-Pharmacological Intervention measures on the composition and treatment efficacy of Landfill Leachate treated by Reverse Osmosis in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro. It was observed that the Lockdown and the massive use of personal hygiene/cleaning materials, as well as the increase in food consumption, provided an unprecedented 140% overload in the daily generation of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in the Campos dos Goytacazes Landfill. The Leachate from this Landfill presented a slightly alkaline pH (pH ≈ 8.0), high concentrations of dissolved organic matter (BOD 5 and COD), and ammoniacal nitrogen. In addition, it was observed that 23% of the parameters in the raw leachate exceeded the respective maximum allowable values recommended by the federal legislation. However, in the period evaluated by this study, the Reverse Osmosis was technically and environmentally effective in treating the raw leachate, not being observed any result in the treated leachate that exceeded the Resolution CONAMA 430/2011.","PeriodicalId":21315,"journal":{"name":"Revista Virtual de Química","volume":"37 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89511639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study the phytochemical properties and chemical stability of green tea were evaluated. A sample, widely sold in was submitted to following of analyzes for detection of the main compounds and evaluation of the stability of green tea extract preparations by HPLC. As result, the green tea extract presented caffeine (34.4%), epi catechin gallate (11.9%), and epi gallocatechin (5.8%) as main identified compounds in its composition. During the four weeks of evaluation, the main metabolites presented small decomposition rate (2.4 to 2.9%). In addition, the phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of several secondary metabolites in their composition (alkaloids, glycosides, saponins, tannins, terpenoids, caffeine and flavonoids). This demonstrates that green tea extract has compounds with properties that bring health benefits but also as it contains other secondary metabolites, and its therapeutic use should be carefully evaluated.","PeriodicalId":21315,"journal":{"name":"Revista Virtual de Química","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90264474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In view of this context, the objective of this article, of an eminently theoretical nature, is to contribute to the delimitation of fundamental concepts in the field of organic chemistry. The methodology adopted for this descriptive and exploratory research, with a qualitative approach, consisted of systematically reviewing the literature, using indexed databases, to contextualize factual points about the historical origin (natural and synthetic) and the pharmacological properties of heterocycles correlated to the theme of COVID-19 pandemic. We approach concepts and structural chemical formulas that support the area of organic chemistry and, more specifically, heterocyclic chemistry. And, through this compilation, we present a way of quick access to the recent information anchored in journals of national and international impact.","PeriodicalId":21315,"journal":{"name":"Revista Virtual de Química","volume":"119 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78554309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The activities were developed with the participation of undergraduate students from the Chemistry course (UFES – Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo) in the discipline “ Waste Treatment in the Environment” and students from the Civil Engineering course, that are using “ Environmental Education ” as theoretical support. The tailings used were characterized by XRD indicating the presence of SiO 2 (silica), Fe 2 O 3 (hematite) and Al 2 Si 2 O 5 (OH) 4 (kaolinite) as main components. The plastic wood sample produced showed surface aspects and color like those of natural wood. The preparation of a technological, sustainable, and economically viable product from waste was discussed in the classroom. Those experimental activities allowed a joint reflection with the students about the environmental issues and how the use of waste, to prepare new materials in the classroom, may promote transformative training, capable of influencing the future of these professionals and hopefully leading to more creative decision-making, with a focus on sustainable development and social responsibilities.","PeriodicalId":21315,"journal":{"name":"Revista Virtual de Química","volume":"4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75400341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, to meet energy demand and simultaneously reduce environmental pollution, fuel cells are promising devices for converting chemical compounds into electricity. Fuel cells can be powered by various types of liquids, including the sugars available in sugarcane extract, with high energy potential. Fuel cells employ the use of noble metals as electrocatalysts, such as Pt or Pd, to carry out the oxidation of these fuels. In this sense, this work reports the study of the oxidation of sugarcane extract in these different noble metals. The platinum catalyst was shown to be more active for the oxidation of sugars, resulting in a power density 10 times greater than Pd/C using a 50% diluted sugarcane extract solution, resulting in promising fuel cell systems. To produce ecologically correct electrical energy for the industry in general.","PeriodicalId":21315,"journal":{"name":"Revista Virtual de Química","volume":"63 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75909092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, catalysis is one of the most important aspects of industrial, laboratory and sustainable chemistry. This paper is meant to make a historical review of how some great names in the history of chemistry built all this knowledge, with special attention to the work of Elizabeth Fulhame, a British scientist, who pioneered the research in catalytic chemical reactions. In addition, other names and contributions of several scientists to the history and development of catalysis will be discussed, as well as the Brazilian contribution to the production of knowledge in this field. This work aims to contribute to broaden the vision of one of the most important branches of modern chemistry in several fronts, including financial, environmental and social.","PeriodicalId":21315,"journal":{"name":"Revista Virtual de Química","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74498157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the toxicity of these species to living tissue, this condition has been studied over the years as a leading cause of human disease, affecting from heart and lung tissues to the Central Nervous System. This work brings important information about the several diseases related to the Oxidative Stress condition, their origins and main causes, as well as raising data from the last years about the antioxidant compounds, anti-inflammatory and NOX inhibitors used in their prevention over the last years.
