The average age of manifestation is 66 years, with a predominance in Caucasian men. Symptoms vary based on the location of the aneurysm and are often discovered incidentally, but their clinical significance lies in the risk of rupture, which can be potentially fatal. This review covers the epidemiology, pathophysiology, anatomical locations of splanchnic aneurysms, their frequency, as well as the clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic specificities, providing primary care practitioners with an overview of the treatment options for these rare and complex pathologies.</p>","PeriodicalId":21286,"journal":{"name":"Revue medicale suisse","volume":"21 911","pages":"612-617"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143721286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their treatment is physiotherapeutic to begin with and then, possibly, surgical: colposuspensions, suburethral sling placements, intraurethral injections of a bulking agent, cystorectocele cures, sacrospinal fixations or laparoscopic promonto-fixations. The results using an endovaginal and vulvar \"rejuvenation\" laser need to be confirmed. Neuromuscular rehabilitation of the pelvic floor is the first therapeutic procedure to be performed. On the other hand, research in the field of preventing pelvic floor injuries during childbirth is not very financially encouraged, despite the technological developments currently available.</p>","PeriodicalId":21286,"journal":{"name":"Revue medicale suisse","volume":"21 911","pages":"622-627"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143721318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the primary cause of AFA, hyperandrogenism may be associated with underlying conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome. However, isolated acne is not a reliable indicator of androgen excess. This article discusses the clinical manifestations that should raise suspicion of such hormonal abnormalities and warrant specific investigations, allowing for the implementation of tailored treatments more specifics to AFA.</p>","PeriodicalId":21286,"journal":{"name":"Revue medicale suisse","volume":"21 911","pages":"602-605"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143721322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are essential for preventing infections and ensuring safety during surgical procedures, wound care, and even hand hygiene. However, their repeated or prolonged use can cause allergic reactions, including irritant and allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). It is important to recognize contact allergy to antiseptics and differentiate it from an infectious complication in postoperative or traumatic wounds. Patch testing is crucial for confirming a contact allergy and identifying the responsible allergen(s) especially if the antiseptic contains multiple active substances and preservatives/excipients in addition to the main antiseptic compound. This article aims to examine the evolution of mental health after the procedure. Anxiety-depressive disorders and binge eating usually decrease within two years post-surgery. However, studies show an increased risk of alcohol or substance use disorders after surgery. Additionally, there has been an increase in self-harming and suicidal behaviors. In conclusion, bariatric surgery should be part of a personalized, multidisciplinary approach to ensure the best benefit-risk ratio for each patient.</p>","PeriodicalId":21286,"journal":{"name":"Revue medicale suisse","volume":"21 910","pages":"536-539"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143664414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, when they are discontinued, often due to reimbursement limitations, there is a high risk of weight regain. This is linked to complex biological mechanisms, including hormonal disruption, a drop in basal metabolism, and dysregulation of central reward circuits. Lasting weight loss is best achieved through a gradual transition, accompanied by professional and interdisciplinary follow-up that includes nutritional, psychological, and behavioral interventions, as well as adapted physical activity.
