Abstract

This article presents the preliminary results of the COMET study, which assesses the physical and mental health as well as the professional trajectories of physicians training in general internal medicine (GIM) in Switzerland. This ongoing study began in August 2024 and has enrolled 245 participants from 10 centers to date. Among them, 70.6 % are aiming to specialize in GIM and 76.0 % wish to work part-time, especially women. Only 39.4 % of participants have a positive opinion of their work-life balance. Less than 5 % plan to leave direct patient care in the next five years. The study highlights the importance of understanding the factors that influence the career choices of young physicians in order to meet the needs of the healthcare system.
