[Chronic pain in Lausanne: key data on our population].
Chronic pain impairs quality of life. A study based on the CoLaus cohort analyzed the demographics of chronic pain in the Lausanne population, as well as its development and healing factors. Moderate to severe pain, mainly back pain, affects 11.6 of the population. Few use analgesics, but opioid consumption has increased over time. A quarter of pain is neuropathic, often associated with more comorbidities. Only the male gender favors recovery. Conversely, age, overweight, severe depression, and the use of analgesics reduce the chances of recovery. These results highlight the need for targeted interventions to improve the management of chronic pain, a common condition in our region.
