Ferrazza","doi":"10.1590/S1516-93322008000300021","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1590/S1516-93322008000300021","url":null,"abstract":"In Rio Grande do Sul, the antimicrobials consumption has seasoning characteristics, and in the winter the utilization demands a significant part of the municipal investment. The dispensation study of antimicrobials gives elements to qualification of the municipal pharmaceutical assistance and to the management of these medicines. In this context, the present paper evaluates the dispensation characteristics of the antimicrobians by SUS in the city of Garruchos, RS. The data were obtained through prescription survey received by the Municipal Health Secretary during June of 2004. It was attended 1,546 prescriptions, which 572 contained antimicrobials, representing 51% of new prescriptions or 37% of the total of attended patients. World studies estimate in 12% the ambulatorial use of antimicrobials, which directs to a significant consumption of these medicines in Garruchos. It is detached the association of several antimicrobials classes with metronidazole, which presupposes the treatment of two infections at the same time. Besides these associations, 85% of the prescriptions present other medicines, mainly analgesics and anti-inflammatories. The benefits of the concomitant use are questionable according to the literature. In the present work the construction of the dispensing process started with a theoretical reflection by teachers of the Pharmaceutic Supervised Internship and was developed along the teaching practice that took place in the School Pharmacy, through epistemological reflection. In this context, the stages of pharmaceutical service process are presented from the moment of the presentation of the prescription, focusing on prevention, identification and resolution of problems related to medicines. Dispensation begins by the analysis of the prescription and identification of the subject, since this determines the path which will be taken. Another contribution has to do with negotiation of time availability for guidance on drug use. One should also identify the patient's experience with the drug, so that effectiveness and safety may be assessed. Finally, this paper raises the need to act on pharmaceutical surveillance. Behavioral sensitization is defined as an augmentation in the behavioral effect of a psychostimulant upon re-administration. Repeated administration of a psychostimulant produces behavioral sensitization to that drug and cross-sensitization to other drugs. We investigated whether repeated administration of caffeine increases femproporex-induced locomotor activity in adolescent and adult rats. Forty-eight adolescent (postnatal day 27) and 32 adult (postnatal day 60) received i.p. injections of caffeine (CAF) (10.0 mg/kg) (adolescent N = 24; adult N = 16)) or saline (adolescent N = 24; adult N = 16) once daily for ten days. Three days following the last injection each group was subdivided and received a challenge injection of femproporex (2.0 mg/kg, i.p.) or saline. Locomotor activity was recorded for 1 hour in 5 - minute intervals. An adequate strain selection must be carried out to manufacture probiotic food products. This selection should guarantee adequate probiotic survival during the passage through the gastrointestinal tract, after retaining its viability in the target product, both during manufacture and storage, in addition to providing the product with suitable technological properties. The food matrix to be selected for the incorporation of probiotic strains should be carefully studied for the adequate probiotic strain-food matrix pair selection, especially for fermented products, in which probiotic growth might result in atypical or even undesirable changes. Compatibility of the selected strains and adaptability to the food must also be verified. These prerequisites are major technological challenges, as many probiotic strains are sensitive to oxygen, heat and acids. A number of probiotic dairy products, mainly fermented ones, in addition to certain non-dairy products have been developed. Thus, since 1940, the search for synthetic materials presenting specific binding sites has been increasing. Nowadays, they are well established in different science areas such as pharmacy, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, among others, being the referred materials called molecularly imprinted polymers-MIP. Although the largest applications of MIP are found in the separations science field, few applications of these polymers have been reported as drug delivery systems-DDS. Such applications have been promising due to the feasibility of the MIP synthesis. However, the clinical use of the MIP as DDS is still not observed, probably due to its recent application, as well as extensive tests necessary for its approval as a new pharmaceutical form.
