For this challenging nonconvex problem, we propose an efficient approximate design based on sequential convex approximation (SCA). By proper reformulations we arrive at a fast converging iterative algorithm where a convex program is solved at each iteration. We further show that the problem in each iteration can also be approximated as a second-order cone program (SOCP), allowing for exploiting computationally efficient state-of-the-art SOCP solvers. Numerical results show that compared to existing two-layer iterative Dinkelbach based algorithms, the SCA-based method can yield a solution within a few iterations and is insensitive to initial points. We also demonstrate that the superior performance to existing scheme is achieved with lower computational complexity.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131915288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, as UER needs to use its own power to forward other user's data, D2D communication may be unreasonable to the UER. To overcome this issue, motivated by the recent progress in energy harvesting (EH) techniques, we propose a D2D communication provided EH heterogeneous cellular network (D2D-EHHN), where UERs harvest energy from an access point (AP) and use the harvested energy for D2D communication. We first derive the UER distribution according to the EH parameters, and then propose opportunistic D2D communication scheme to determine the transmission mode based on the best UER location. We then explore the effect of network parameters on the outage probability. Particularly, we show that having a high EH efficiency at user equipments (UEs) does not always improve the performance of D2D-EHHN, especially for dense network, and also how EH parameters affect the optimal offloading bias that minimizes the outage probability of D2D-EHHN.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124989501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An efficient algorithm is presented for the design of LLR quantizers based either on the unconditional LLR distribution or on LLR samples. In the latter case, a small number of samples is sufficient and no training data are required. Therefore, our algorithm can be used to design LLR quantizers during data transmission. The proposed algorithm is reminiscent of the famous Lloyd-Max algorithm and is not restricted to any particular LLR distribution.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123908932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we aim to maximize the sum rate of a cellular user (CU) and a D2D pair, with receive beamforming at the BS equipped with multiple antennas, subject to per-node power, maximum ICI, and minimum SINR constraints. We propose an efficient algorithm to maximize the sum rate in two steps. We first consider the D2D admissibility problem to determine whether the D2D pair can share the spectrum with the CU while satisfying all the constraints and SINR requirements. We then obtain the optimal beam vector and the optimal power levels of the CU and D2D transmitters in closed form. The performance of the proposed algorithm is studied numerically. It is shown the proposed optimal solution substantially outperforms a CU-priority heuristic approach that selects the maximum CU power with minimum D2D interference.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122650802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The full-duplex operation allows leveraging channel reciprocity for open-loop uplink training to estimate the downlink channels. However, the uplink transmission of training creates interference at the downlink receiving mobile nodes. We characterize the optimal training resource allocation and its associated spectral efficiency, in the proposed open-loop training based full-duplex system. We also evaluate the performance of the half-duplex counterpart to derive the relative gains of full-duplex training. Despite the existence of the inter-node interference due to full-duplex, significant spectral efficiency improvement is attained over half-duplex operation.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125265062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Drawing much of inspiration from sparse-graph codes such as Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes, these studies use analytical tools from modern coding theory to analyze CS solutions. In this paper, we consider and systematically analyze the CS setup inspired by a class of efficient, popular and flexible sparse-graph codes called rateless codes. The proposed rateless CS setup is asymptotically analyzed using tools such as Density Evolution and EXIT charts and fine-tuned using degree distribution optimization techniques.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115329686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Essential self-interference signal models under different RF imperfections are first presented, and then used to formulate widely linear, nonlinear and augmented nonlinear digital canceler structures. Furthermore, a general parameter estimation procedure based on least squares is laid out. Digital cancellation with actual measured self-interference signals is then performed using all the presented methods. To ensure a realistic scenario, the used transmitter has realistic levels of I/Q imbalance, and is also utilizing a highly nonlinear low-cost power amplifier. Furthermore, a realistic RF canceler is incorporated in the measurements, and both shared-antenna and dual-antenna based devices are measured and experimented. The obtained results indicate that only a digital canceler structure capable of modeling all the essential impairments is able to suppress the self-interference close to the receiver noise floor.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120981175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multi-way relay networks (MWRNs) can address this challenge by improving the system spectral efficiency. In this work, we further improve the spectral efficiency of MWRNs by proposing a novel linear beamforming design, namely partial zero-forcing (PZF), for MWRNs with a multiple-input-multiple-output relay. Compared to zero-forcing (ZF), in PZF, the constraints on the relay beamforming are relaxed such that only partial user-interference, instead of all, is canceled at the relay. After receiving the relay's signal, the users eliminate the remaining interferences through self-interference and successive interference cancellation. By taking such two-stage interference cancellation, PZF better exploits the degrees-of-freedom in MWRNs and achieves higher data rates than ZF.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127286657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The investigated architecture can be modeled as a multiple-access relay channel (MARC) channel where multiple users communicate with a final destination (the macro base station) with the help of a relay (the small cell base station). A network-coding-based MARC, which exploits both the direct and relayed transmissions, is introduced to deal with low-capacity BH. We assess the UL average system capacity for 1) the baseline association based on the strongest reference signal received power (RSRP) in downlink (DL) and 2) the optimized user association chosen to improve the overall network UL sum-rate. Our results show that the network-coding-based MARC scheme achieves significant gains with respect to the pure relaying strategy. We further show that the optimized user association provides significant gains in network UL sum-rate with respect to the RSRP association, for the same sum power constraint and without degrading DL performance, especially when the BH capacity is sufficiently large.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128400437","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
