This model is built on the following steps: (1) defining the support rate for each candidate; (2) estimating the ratio of votes garnered by each candidate; (3) using Hayashi’s quantification method type 1 and correcting the difference between the value estimated from the third order regression and the ratio of votes; and (4) calculating the winning probability for each candidate by using quantification method type 2 or the margin of error for the estimated ratio of votes. In the 1990s, the telephone replaced the face-to-face survey mode, providing changes to Hayashi’s election prediction model. We discuss the reasons for these improvements.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126117070","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Confucian ethical teachings include the traditional values such as benevolence & humaneness (Ren), righteousness (Yi), ritual & etiquette (Li), love within the family (Xiao), loyalty to the state (Zhong), honesty & trustworthiness (Xin) etc. This paper presents the results of comparative analysis of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean values based on the East Asian values survey conducted with the face-to-face interview in the mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan from October 2002 to November 2003. Data analysis in this study was mainly focusing on some aspects of people's attitudes toward family, marriage, gender, traditional values using correspondence analysis. Except general pattern classification based on “Traditional-Modern” axis, the relationship between people's attitudes and their attribute variables such as gender and age have also been identified.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"7 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123244102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose two variable selection rules for compositional data and two criteria for a recommended solution to select a subset of variables. The proposed rules are based on minor determinants of a variance-covariance matrix or a correlation matrix. They are the same as McCabe's (1984) idea for variable selection rules in principal component analysis. We apply the rules and the criteria to three real datasets and consider their performance. As a conclusion, the performance of the rule based on a minor determinant of a variance-covariance matrix is better than the other one. The rule is useful to apply, but further consideration would be necessary for applying the criteria to any datasets.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126970166","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Five conditions of similarity-judgment tasks of Kanji characters were first conducted to 195 university students. Correlational analyses indicated that the similarity among the targets was primarily dependent on their figural feature rather than the semantic or phonetic feature, and moreover, the similarity was significantly correlated with the retrieval order of the targets during a memory retrieval task (Jimura et al., 1999). Then, the similarity space constituted by the shape of the targets was applied to two computational models in subsymbolic level : the multi-dimensional scaling (MDS) and the Isometric feature mapping (Isomap). Dimensional reduction of the shape-based similarity space indicated that the Isomap more accurately represented the similarity derived from the judgment-task and the retrieval pattern than the MDS. These results suggest the importance of the similarity in memory retrieval processes and the superiority of Isomap as a subsymbolic model of similarity.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115184870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model represents the mechanism of frequency of coming to the stores with framework of an hierarchical Bayes Poisson regression model. The model includes three explanatory variables: “Store loyalty”, “Direct mail”, and “Events”. These variables are also modeled by functional form with parameters. As a result, we could confirm that direct mail is one of the marketing mix variables that have the most effect on frequency of coming to the store.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128673702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These models are(1)simple logistic curve, (2)harmonic logistic curve, (3)exponential logistic curve, (4)modified exponential curve, (5)Gompertz curve, (6)Bass's model. Logistic-type models((1), (2), (3))are based on the assumption of the effects of the interactions among members in a group.On the other hand, modified exponential curve model is based on the assumption of the effects of the outside information source. Bass's model synthesizes these two components of diffusion process. The six models are applied to data on consumer durables, music records, and information diffusions. The results show that Bass's model yields the better predictions for most of actual data than any other model.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129796830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many students need to be educated now to use computers. The importance of computer literacy is emphasized these days. To obtain computer literacy, students must not only depend on school lessons but make an effort to practice using a computer outside the curriculum. It is necessary to furnish the students with many computers so they can use them freely. In this paper, we discussed four points of computer education:(1)coping with the questions and or troubles of the users, (2)safeguarding the system, (3)improving the educational technique of teachers, and(4)motivating the students. This paper contains our primary research of these four points from our studies in site at Educational Center for Information Processing, Osaka University.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127026534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
