However, two-dimensional configuration in these studies cannot be always regarded as geographic map, particularly for a long-term qualitative change. Q-analysis, a topological language, enables us to understand that change. The objective of this paper is considering methodologies of MDS and Q-analysis in time-space convergence studies. Two studies of time-space convergence in Japan, Murayama's MDS and the author's Q-analysis, are compared from a methodological view. The MDS method reduces multi-dimensional metric space to two-dimensional one, but that tends to break original adjacent relationships. Q-analysis can describe the structure of topological relationships among cities, using the concepts of local dimensionality, nearness, and connectivity. While MDS focuses on the origin and distance, Q-analysis is applicable to a long-term uneven transportation development.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125529414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this purpose we studied pathophysiological states of patients with gout and patients with diabetes mellitus in contrast with states of healthy subjects and derived several state-planes which gives optimal representations on differences between disease states. It is worth noting that these three groups(gout, diabetes mellitus and healthy subjects)were clustered well into three groups on this sort of plane without disease-specific parameters, i. e., serum uric acid level to gout and serum glucose level to diabetes mellitus.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123097072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many things to do for the laders. So, they are required to share these roles and the planner should consider who should share a role and who should share another. And also, they have to consider that in disasters some people obey the leaders and others do not. In this study a simulation model of human behavior considering these points was built and an experiment with this simulation model was executed. The results of experiment were: 1. This simulation model reflects the differencee between subjects. 2. The subjects considered many different things and what they consiered was independent from the situation set by the model. 3. MALIFA can obtain the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters in the orthogonal common factor analysis model with different kind of constraints depending on the classical or non-classical approach.In the non-classical approach, even complex solution can be obtained.In this study, it is shown that when squared multiple correlation is used as a initial estimate of communality, MALIFA happened to yield a lower value of the objective function to be minimized in the classical approach than the non-classical approach. Although some care is needed in its use, MALIFA seemes to provide a useful tool for studying the cause of improper solution in maximum likelihood factor analysis.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126564539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Past research in grocery store showed that consumers' price knowledge depends on in-store marketing activities like a special price. Author tried to build a price memory based brand choice model and compared with other brand choice models using scanner panel data. As a consequence, the fitness of the price memory based brand choice model is better than the other models. This is because this model considered consumers' price knowledge as a stochastic model and consumers' asymmetric response to price. This empirical research shows that consumers do not change their internal reference price if they buy the brand with normal price. But when they purchase the brand with a reduced price, they will replace their old internal reference price by a new reduced internal reference price. This finding will beuseful for managers when they try to plan price promotions or price settings.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121092285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The165essays by high school students were evaluated holistically and given the marks between0to100points. The marks were then classified into the2to5rating categories according to the two criteria: the percentiles and the standard deviation of each rater's original mark distribution. The reliability coefficients were calculated based on the values of information functions which were obtained through applying the graded response models. It was found that the reliability of the5-category scores(standard deviation criterion)was almost as high as the original100-point marks, which indicates validity of the categorical rating. The characteristics of some of the raters were also described using their information functions.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121236479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several approaches to handle missing responses in Dual Scaling, but the method of ignoring missing responses, among them, is regarded as more appropriate especially for a data set with many missing responses. The method is proceeded by inserting value os to all categories of missing response. In this paper, we show that the procedure can't give proper solutions, and propose a new kind of algorithm for ignoring missing responses.Furthermore we show the efficiency of the new algorithm, referring to the simulations based on artificial data and also present the application of it to actual data.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116618268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data from a Web survey conducted in 2013 are used. The sample consists of males or females in labor force between 20 and 59 years old. In the analyses I applied the Reduced K-means cluster analysis and 2 to 10 clusters of respondents were extracted. I adopt the 6 cluster solution with 4 dimensions. These clusters are interpreted in terms of affinity to occupations; (1) high status, (2) low status, (3) routine manual (male dominated), (4) high autonomy (male dominated), (5) personal service with professional, technical skills (female dominated), and (6) nonmanual in bureaucratic organization (female dominated). Then, I analyze the relationships between the cluster membership and several occupational traits of respondents to examine the differentiation of occupational groups. Implications of findings are discussed in terms of social class and gender segregation.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116620166","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
