Capecitabine is a new well-tolerated chemotherapy agent that is effective in treating certain cancers, especially breast cancer and gastrointestinal cancers such as colorectal, gastric and pancreatic cancers. Similar to other chemotherapeutics, capecitabine causes the formation of excess reactive oxygen species and a decrease in plasma antioxidant levels. It has been reported that capecitabine causes immune suppression and lymphopenia in cancer patients. Vitamin C, a well-known chelating agent with non-enzymatic antioxidant properties, repairs oxidative damage by reducing lipid peroxidation, altering the antioxidant defense system, showing electrons to free radicals, and extinguishing the reactivity of free radicals. These properties of vitamin C can provide very beneficial effects against organ damage. Vitamin C has been found to be beneficial for improving liver damage. Using vitamin C as an adjunct to minimize the toxic side effects of capecitabine can be helpful.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132041411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we aimed to investigate the levels of depression and hopelessness among emergency service workers and the factors affecting these levels. This study included a total of 80 volunteer healthcare employees working in the emergency service of our hospital. Beck depression and Beck hopelessness levels of the participants were measured both before and after their shifts. Additionally, participants were classified according to the economic level and the correlation between economic level, depression and hopelessness scales was investigated. Though Beck depression points were lowest before shift, nurses-health officers were the group with highest increase in depression after shift (p=0.004). Physicians were the group with highest Beck hopelessness levels before and after shift. In the group with highest economic level, there was a 30% increase in the severity levels of hopelessness both before and after shift. Physicians were the group with highest hopelessness levels among emergency service health personnel. Additionally, the group of emergency service employees with highest economic level were had higher levels of depression and hopelessness compared to the other groups","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114285207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The histopathologic characteristics of organizing pneumonia are the presence of myofibroblastic plugs in the lumens of the respiratory bronchioles, alveoli, and alveolar ducts. Organizing pneumonia may be cryptogenic or secondary to different known reasons. It can also develop secondary to aspiration. Foreign body aspiration is less common in adults than in children. It may appear as a serious medical problem that endangers life, especially in the older age group. In this article, we present a case of organized pneumonia that developed secondary to bone fragment aspiration in an elderly patient with characteristic histological findings.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114468359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Clinical history, physical examination and imaging methods if necessary are generally used for the diagnosis. Excision and pathologic examination are performed if necessary. While most of the cases are treated without any problems it is important that some cases are malignant and that some cases are associated with syndromes. A total of 296 patients who were diagnosed with cutaneous hemangioma at our hospital between 2010 and 2018 were included in the study. Out of 296 patients in total, 152 were female and 144 were male. Of these patients, 128 were diagnosed with lobular capillary hemangioma, 41 with sinusoidal hemangioma, 3 with epithelioid hemangioma, 1 with microvenular hemangioma, 1 with hobnail hemangioma, 1 with angiokeratoma, 1 with spindle cell hemangioma, and 1 with tufted hemangioma. As 119 patients underwent only incisional biopsy no subtyping could be done. Hemangiomas are common benign vascular tumors with 14 different subtypes. We analysed our 296 patients with rare subtypes with literature review. .","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"29 1-2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116717579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our study, we plan to investigate the effects of easily accessible and prognostic inflammatory markers for the prevention of complications and mortality in this clinical presentation in which early diagnosis and good management have great importance. Patients who underwent embolectomy between January 2010 and May 2018 were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups with and without amputation. The patient’s demographic, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment methods were recorded. In addition, RDW, MPV values and ABI indices in the time of admission to the hospital were recorded and compared statistically. A total of 198 patients were included in the study. 156 (78.78%) of patients had no amputation and 42 patients (21.22%) had amputation in the study. RDW values of patients with amputation were found to be 15.72 ± 3.12, and RDW values of patients without amputation were found to be 14.81 ± 2.33 (p = 0.04). When the MPV values of the patients who underwent amputation were examined, 9.74 ± 1.2 was observed and 10.15 ± 1.23 were found in patients without amputation (p = 0.04). The preoperative ankle-brachial indexes of the patients in both groups were 0.51 ± 0.17 and 0.61 ± 0.12, respectively. RDW and MPV are important inflammatory markers in predicting prognosis in acute lower extremity ischemia.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128505402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It’s been always a subject of interest for orthodontics if there is a correlation between face morphology and airway. The aim of our study is to evaluate the relationship between pharyngeal airway and craniofacial structures according to facial growth patterns by 3-D imaging methods in individuals with different skeletal anomalies. For this purpose, archieved Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) images are used. Total number of 180 CBCT data were divided into to 3 groups in sagittal direction according to ANB as Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3. Then, each group were divided into 3 subgroups in vertical direction as horizontal, normal and vertical face types according to the SN-GoGn and sum of Posterior angles. The volumetric, areal and linear measurements of the airway were performed on the CBCT images by the MIMICS program and the results were analyzed by statistical methods. There was no statistically significant difference in volumetric measurements between Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 groups. Significant differences in areal measurements in axial area at C2 level, in the transversal area at O-N border and in linear measurements, a-p at C2 levels and a-p at O-N margin were found. In Class 3 patients, there was a statistically significant difference between horizontal and normal face types at the level of a-p at C2. There was a statistically significant difference in a-p measurements at C2 level of horizontal face type group between Class 1-Class 3 and between Class 2-Class 3 groups. Malformations in the sagittal direction and different facial types in the vertical dimension may be related to pharyngeal airway volume and dimension.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"299 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124236041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
