In many studies carried out before, it was showed that there was a meaningful relationship with psoriasis among depression, anxiety, and worriment. But, there was very few studies researching the possitive or negative effect of the pschologic stresses of the patients. In this study, we researched whether depression, hopelessness, worriment and anxiety have the negative effect to the examination, or not. 50 psoriasis patients receiving the narrow-band UVB (NB-UVB) phototherapy were included to the study. The severity of disease, pre-treatment, and following 20 seans were reckoned by being used the Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI). Morever, the patiens were evaluated in terms of depression, hopelessness, worriment and anxiety by being used the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS), Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale -Anxiety subscale (HAS). The patients were examinated in two groups: those are reaching to PASI 50 after 20 seans NB-UVB treatment and those cannot reach. These two groups were compared in terms of sociodemographic attributes, scale scores, disease duration, and the first PASI values by being used the statical methods. Beck Depression Inventory score was found to be statistically significantly higher in patients who did not reach PASI 50 than the other group in our study. Also, no significant difference was observed in other questionnaire scores. However, in multivariate analyses; lower depression score according to the BDI is independently associated with reaching PASI 50 after treatment (OR=0.840, 95% CI= 0.742-0.950, p=0.006). We can increase the effectiveness of the treatment by providing psychiatric support before treatment in psoriasis patients with psychiatric distress such as depression.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134091818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is a cross-sectional study. The research population is composed of the undergraduate students studying in Manisa Celal Bayar University (n=4698). The research sample was determined as 1251 with the smallest sample as 50% prevalence and 1% margin of error at 0.05. A total of 1626 students were reached. Data were collected with three forms in the study namely sociodemographic questionnaire form, attitudes related to career-gender effect questionnaire and Career Decision Competence Expectations Scale Short Questionnaire. A statistically significant relation was established between the career expectations of research group and age and gender. As the age gets older, career expectations of male students are better than others. However, a statistically significant relation was found between male and female students concerning the gender-career effect attitudes in the research group. Male students are more inclined to gendered attitude. It has been determined that career expectations differ by gender. In this concept, it is thought that the programs related to gender and sex may increase the academic career expectations of especially female students.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"254 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134494910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our study aims to determine the relationship between normal white light endoscopy and histopathological IM diagnoses. This retrospective study evaluated the endoscopic prevalence and histopathological confirmation rate in 229 suspected IM patients among 3247 patients who underwent elective esophagogastroduodenoscopy between October 2016 and May 2020. All endoscopic processes were performed by the same clinical endoscopist. We analyzed and reviewed demographic data, endoscopic findings, and endoscopic biopsy pathology results of all patients obtained from medical records. The endoscopic prevalence of IM was 7.02. IM diagnosis was pathologically confirmed in 92.1% of the patients who were diagnosed with endoscopy. IM was more common in male patients (57.2%) than in female patients. Of the IM patients, 59% were aged ≥ 50 years, whereas 5.2% were aged ≥ 20-30 years and 22.7% ≥ 60-70 years. The incidence of Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) was 40.2%. The endoscopic diagnosis of gastric intestinal metaplasia, which is a precancerous lesion, was in great agreement with histopathological diagnosis. However, the prevalence of endoscopic IM diagnosis was below that of histopathological diagnosis. IM diagnosis can be made more accurately by diligent and detailed endoscopic examination, particularly in older male patients.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133975293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patients were divided into the following 2 groups: group 1 consisted of 67 patients with chronic hepatitis B infection without exacerbation; group 2 consisted of 67 patients with acute exacerbation of chronic hepatitis B infection. The serum level of ALT, AST, ammonia, and serum factor V activity were measured and compared between groups. Mean age in group 1 was 38 years and the mean laboratory findings were as follows: serum ALT: 32.3 ± 17.3 U L –1 ; factor V activity: 112.42% ± 22.67%; ammonia: 13.85 ± 8.32 µg mL –1 . Mean age in group 2 was 34 years and the mean laboratory findings were as follows: serum ALT: 1087.2 ± 911.9 U L –1 ; factor V activity: 101.13% ± 32.65%; ammonia: 34.20 ± 42.35 µg mL –1 . Factor V activity was significantly lower in group 2 (P ≤ 0.022) and the serum ammonia level was significantly higher in group 2 (P = 0.0001). In the patients with hepatic exacerbation the serum ammonia level was higher, independent of the presence of hepatic encephalopathy in the absence of hepatic cirrhosis or hepatic failure, and was indicative of hepatic damage. Low serum factor V activity in the patients with hepatic exacerbation indicate insufficient liver regeneration capacity.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133023217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We aim to unveil if nasal TREK-1 and AQP5 expression changes during pregnancy. We proposed that these two proteins may take part in the biomolecular background of Pregnancy Rhinitis. Twenty adult Wister albino female rats were enrolled into the study. Two groups constituted as 10 control (group A) and 10 pregnant (group B) rats. We sacrificed the rats at 21th day of gestation by intraperitoneal injection of 400mg/kg Na-pentobarbitone. Intracardiac blood sample was taken before the pulse died out. Serum estradiol (E2) and progesterone (PG) levels were determined by ELISA. Nasal septum with its mucoperichondrium was resected and sent for real time polymerase chain reaction testing. Relative TREK-1 (p=0.001) expression of group B was found to be significantly higher than group A. Relative AQP5 (p=0.003) expression was also found to be significantly higher in group B than group A. E2 was found to upregulate AQP5 expression (p=0.032) while downregulate TREK1 expression (p=-0.011). On the other hand, PG was also found to upregulate nasal AQP5 expression (p=0.024) but not TREK1 expression (p=-0.071). TREK1 and AQP5 take part in pregnancy related biomolecular changes of nasal mucosa. Namely, expression of TREK1 decreases while expression of AQP5 increases during pregnancy. These findings support the researchers asserting triggered allergy as the etiology of PR.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114467114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After the primary infection, the virus remains latent within the sensory dorsal root ganglia and can reactivate as herpes zoster (HZ). It is most common in adults, especially elderly and immunocompromised patients, but rarely occurs in children. Herpes zoster is most often seen in individuals previously infected with VZV, but it also has occurred in individuals without known varicella infection, possibly because these individuals had a prior subclinical VZV infection. We present a case of HZ in an otherwise healthy 18-month-old boy with no known varicella exposure who received the VZV vaccine at 12 months of age.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"295 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116249835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The issue is further complicated when problems such as high-impact traumas, firearm injuries, and age-related arteriosclerosis are added to these factors. Patients who presented with open fracture of the lower extremity and underwent soft tissue reconstruction were analyzed The patients were evaluated in terms of age, sex, mechanism of trauma, wound coverage time, bone repair techniques, soft tissue repair techniques. Statistically, the time from initial injury to surgical reconstruction was compared according to location of injury, age, etiology stabilization technique. There were no statistically significant difference between the time from initial injury to surgical reconstructions according to the age, etiologies and stabilization technique; but distal region and bacterial contamination were found to have longer time from initial injury to surgical. Eleven patients (61.2%) underwent reconstruction using muscle flap. Not only the factors like the bacterial growth but also the level of the injury is also affected the time from initial injury to late surgical reconstruction. Cross-leg flaps can be used in selected patients to spare the extremity in patients with severe soft tissue and bone damage due to firearm injury, especially buckshot, when the recipient vessels are problematic.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122005876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The clinical, pathological and laboratory data of 112 patients who were operated for breast cancer in Sivas Cumhuriyet University Surgical Oncology Department between January 1, 2014 and January 1, 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Preoperative systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) was calculated. The SII cut-off value was set at 600. The SII value was compared with ca 15-3, histological grade, TNM classification, and tumor size which is an independent prognostic factor for breast cancer. All patients were women. The average age of the patients was calculated as 58.5 years. There was a significant relationship between SII and Ca 15.3, histological grade, tumor size, and anatomical stage obtained by TNM classification. The increase in the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) as other prognostic values increase in our study suggests that this value can be used as an independent prognostic factor. We think that SII can be used as a prognostic factor in the clinic because it does not take much time to calculate it, it is easily accessible and its cost is low.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132443432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
