For this purpose, initially the short-circuit was applied on selected type of traction LiFePO4 cell. After it, the visible damage was identified from mechanical and electrical point of view. Next, experimental setup for automated application of proposed recovery method was realized, while battery under test undergoes full-range regeneration procedure. As a verification of the proposed regeneration algorithm, the test of delivered Ah for various discharging currents was realized. Received results have been compared to the new cell, which undergone also the test of delivered Ah. From the final evaluation is seen, that proposed procedure is able to recover damaged cell up to 80% of its full capacity.","PeriodicalId":207935,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132791574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is challenging to deploy such strategies when the inertia constant of the system is unknown and time-varying. In this paper, we present a data-driven system identification approach for an energy storage system (ESS) operator to identify the inertial response of the system (and consequently the inertia constant). The method is first tested and validated with a simulated genset model using small changes in the system load as the excitation signal and measuring the corresponding change in frequency. The validated method is then used to experimentally identify the inertia constant of a genset. The inertia constant of the simulated genset model was estimated with an error of less than 5% which provides a reasonable estimate for the ESS operator to properly tune the parameters of a fast-frequency controller.","PeriodicalId":207935,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115411611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multi-three-phase machines are used with modular three phase converters to obtain a redundant structure and their great advantage is the fault-tolerance capability. A reconfigurable architecture can be obtained starting from multi-three-phase machine and its characteristic is the possibility to change the winding configuration as a function of the machine speed. This architecture has the advantage of reducing the number of active bridges when the machine operates at low speed, reducing total semiconductors power losses. However, reconfiguration cells are needed to interconnect the windings sets. This cells are usually composed of solid-state bi-directional switches which cause conduction losses. For this reason the analysis of the system losses must be carried out in order to evaluate if the increase in complexity is balanced by an increase in the system efficiency.","PeriodicalId":207935,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124341673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents an MPPT using finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC), where the system under study is composed of a PV module, boost converter, and resistive load. The proposed MPPT technique not only reduces the required sensors by one but also eliminates the dependency of the control system on the load by using an extended Kalman filter (EKF), which greatly enhances the robustness and reliability of the MPPT based FCSMPC. Finally, the proposed MPPT technique is validated by simulation results under different radiation conditions and load variation.","PeriodicalId":207935,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123545414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The parameter calculation is exemplified here for the manufacturer data of a typical single-phase generator. Based on these parameters and the dynamic equations in the d-q-rotor reference frame, a dynamic model is derived. In contrast to the dynamic models of commercially available software, the damper currents are given as output values. The transient single-phase sudden short-circuit current of a 40 kVA three-phase synchronous generator is numerically calculated with the presented dynamic model and compared with the analytical solution and measurement resuls.","PeriodicalId":207935,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122134049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the required output power increases, the cost of the WECS also increases due to the high cost of semiconductor switches with higher current ratings. Multi-phase machines are a growing area of interest in power generation since the additional phases reduce the required semiconductor switch power ratings while providing lower torque ripple and improved fault tolerance. Adequate machine models are required to develop robust controllers that will improve system efficiency. This paper investigates the modelling and application of a nine-phase squirrel cage induction generator for a WECS. The WECS consists of a grid-tied generator connected using a back-to-back converter. A torque is applied to the generator shaft to simulate a prime mover such as the output of a gear box and output power is measured for different load conditions. The results show a reduction in per-phase generator current and power delivery at unity power-factor.","PeriodicalId":207935,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129356975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In today’s modern society, electricity is the most important form of energy for industry and society. A reliable and stable electrical power system is therefore essential. The growing amount of renewable energy sources leads to wheeling electrical power over long distances and to the growth in power electronics-based generation. Both affect the behavior of the electrical power system. The objective of this paper is the development of a scaled version of the Kundur’s two areas system in order to implement it in a real laboratory. Additionally, this setup allows to change the rotational inertia and analyze all terminal quantities with phasor measurement units. The control structure of this island grid should reflect the reality as close as possible. All this together enables to study dynamic phenomena with a real small power system. With this laboratory implementation electromechanical swings such as inter-area oscillations after disconnecting a tie-line, changing loads and generation or tripping a synchronous machine can be shown.","PeriodicalId":207935,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129160838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, it is shown that evaluating DFIG alternatives like rotor-tied DFIGs and brushless doubly fed machines (BDFMs) without proper power factor considerations, can lead to inaccurate power density estimations. Finite element analysis (FEA) models of selected DFIG alternatives designed in available literature sources, are simulated as grid connected machines. The significant variations of power output with grid side power factor of these machine are highlighted. This denotes the need for more nuanced evaluation of the power density of these machines, especially when considering grid code requirements. It is therefore proposed that the power densities of DFIG alternatives be obtained at conditions within permissible grid code conditions.","PeriodicalId":207935,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130787362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
