A characteristic of GAs is their versatility when used in optimizing problems. In this work a GA is used to adjust a discrete-time transfer function in order to get it working as a filter. Data used to do this work are given input-output sequences. The results of the GA are the values of the parameters of a digital filter. GA is checked in order to work as a high pass and a low pass filter. Five parameters are adjusted from a discrete time second-order digital filter to get the desired behavior of the system. Several possible output sequences are considered and related with the way of working of the GA. Some ideas about the translation of this scheme in hardware are also mentioned.","PeriodicalId":205589,"journal":{"name":"2007 2nd International Workshop on Soft Computing Applications","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127132975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a distributed and adaptive clustering architecture for dynamic sensor networks. The proposed architecture comprises an approach for energy-efficient clustering with adaptive node activity for achieving a good performance in terms of system lifetime and network coverage quality. This architecture demonstrates a uniform cluster head distribution across the network in addition to a desirable network coverage. Furthermore, the paper presents an analytical approach to disclose the relationship between network density and coverage quality. Experiments were conducted to validate the proposed architecture. The analytical and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed architecture prolongs network lifetime meanwhile preserving a highly coverage quality.","PeriodicalId":205589,"journal":{"name":"2007 2nd International Workshop on Soft Computing Applications","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129696705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The environment, solar radiations, weather changes, the increasing number of endocrine modifications, iatrogen agression, stress, or even fashion, have undoubtful effects on women's breasts health, too. Long term negative influence may appear due to invasive or even minim invasive cancer investigation techniques, so, alternative methods are continuously researched. As a stage in the implementation of a non-invasive microwaves technique for breast cancer diagnosis under research, meant to early uncover the developing malignant processes, we designed a 3D reconstruction process that we are extensively presenting in this paper. This reconstruction is a compulsory step previous to the tumor volumetric shape reconstruction, in order to be well positioned for further breast surgery, where our results could find a field of application. The genetic algorithm considers a population of chromosomes, each one encoding a different alternative design solution. For a given design solution, the system performance over a specified mission time is evaluated in terms of a pre-defined reliability function. This latter constitutes the objective function to be maximized by the genetic algorithm through the evolution of the successive generations of the population in conditions of not overlapping a cost constraint for the system.","PeriodicalId":205589,"journal":{"name":"2007 2nd International Workshop on Soft Computing Applications","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116992455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, a localization is done by using the information obtained from video cameras, using a proper set of attributes. An uncertainty measurement is performed based on the similarity with the nearest prototype and the dissimilarity from the rest of prototypes. The best granularity is also determined. The information delivered by the infrared detectors establish an estimation of the object's localization and the heating surface. These reinforce the video information, by using an information fusion.","PeriodicalId":205589,"journal":{"name":"2007 2nd International Workshop on Soft Computing Applications","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126618281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This phenomenon cannot be treated by the conventional frequency analysis because of the non-null initial conditions. The qualitative phase trajectory analyze of the difference between the controllers outputs is used instead. The second and the fourth quadrants of the phase plane are recommended for switching, while the first and the third quadrants must be avoided. An analogy with the sliding mode method is proposed and three workbench studies are provided.
