Each professional in the field has a personal story to tell on the subject. For Bulgarians it is a matter of definite interest to find out why a foreigner may choose to dedicate their professional life to Bulgaria and Bulgarians instead of many other possible alternatives. In this discussion article I will look for clues of what may have motivated Prof. Machiel Kiel to undertake research in Bulgarian studies in the Balkan context and later move to Ottoman studies with the orientation toward ‘Bulgaria during the Ottoman period’. Part I of the article aims to identify the leitmotifs in the oeuvre of Kiel and the corresponding intentional stance in dealing with subjects related to Bulgarian studies. Part II will be dedicated to case studies (microanalyses) of his way of thinking and coding the products with linguistic means, as well as to general conclusions, including the challenge of Kiel’s professional identity.","PeriodicalId":204235,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institute for Bulgarian Language “Prof. Lyubomir Andreychin”","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125504855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

В статията се анализира правописът на един административен документ от 1889 г., описващ облеклото на населението в тогавашното Софийско окръжие. Десет години след Освобождението от османска власт, българските окръжни управители са получили въпросник, по който да опишат дрехите, аксесоарите и обувките на населението. Секретарят на окръжния управител на София съставя такъв документ, описващ традиционното облекло и даващ информация за местните термини, за местното производство и вносните стоки, за цените на дрехите и аксесоарите. В последните две декади на XIX в. все още няма кодифициран единен правопис в новоосвободената държава, но съществува богата възрожденска писмена практика. Анализът на правописа на този документ показва, че секретарят на софийския окръжен управител се е стремял да бъде последователен, доколкото е възможно при липса на кодифициран правопис, отразен в правописен речник. Той се е стремял да използва ь, ъ, ѣ, ѫ според етимологията и грешките са сравнително малко. Най-голямо вариране има при означаване на определителния член за м.р. ед.ч. Повечето варианти отразяват предпочитанията на различните правописни школи, които са били авторитетни в последната четвърт на ΧΙΧ в. В основни линии той е следвал правописните правила, предложени от Марин Дринов още преди Освобождението, но се усеща влиянието на Търновската книжовна школа и на правописа на Любен Каравелов – от тях са взети особености, които са по-близки до говоримия език.","PeriodicalId":204235,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institute for Bulgarian Language “Prof. Lyubomir Andreychin”","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127951685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
