This study aims to analyze information hierarchy text and reveal discourse cognition in constructing corporate identity. Both of these concepts are used to see and reveal the agent’s wishes and communications made in showing identity. The research data was obtained by documenting persuasive discourse on the nestlé and aqua-Danone websites in Indonesia. Research results direct our minds that there are two types of hierarchies built by the company: hierarchy text based on general truth and hierarchy text based on product identity. Cognition built-in discourse is generally the same. It is built through concrete language to show efforts to save the environment. The language tools used are mental imagery words, action words, and concrete language. From these two studies, it can be seen that corporate identity can be shown directly and indirectly and the target to be built is to save the environment.","PeriodicalId":204201,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Language and Culture Studies","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133430633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

He successfully employed his revolutionary identity in his works through specific Gothic characteristics, chiefly of quest and dissatisfaction with his surroundings. His invention of the Byronic hero is also a site of interest. His revolt was against the current impositions of his society. This refusal in Byron’s works needs a better understanding, which I suggested to be carried out in the light of Hegel’s theory of bondsman and Lacan’s theory of the Symbolic and the Real. This paper has also depended dramatically on Albert Camus’ elaboration on the nature of the rebellion. Most recently, a Christian man who wanted to marry his Muslim lover filed a lawsuit for review of the Marriage Law with the Constitutional Court, especially Article 2 paragraphs 1 and 2, and Article 8 letter f, which generally regulates the validity and prohibition of marriage. Interfaith marriage, which became a social issue, later became an interesting theme adopted by the scriptwriters and directors for the film. There are at least five film titles with the theme of interfaith marriages that have been displayed in Indonesian cinemas since 1999. Filmgoers who are predominantly teenagers and adults, of course, have different meanings for the narratives of the films they watch; this can be influenced by various aspects, especially cultural and religious backgrounds. The meaning of the film “Cinta Tapi Beda” will be given by a student audience that represents the dominant age of cinemagoers in Indonesia. This is qualitative research with a constructivist paradigm. The method of selecting the source uses the criterion sampling technique, where the criteria for the source have been determined in advance. The data collection method used in this study was through in-depth interviews using semi-structured interview guidelines. The data analysis method uses Stuart Hall’s encoding-decoding theory by classifying meaning into dominant, negotiating, and oppositional. The results showed that one in four audiences was in a position of dominant hegemony, one was in a negotiating position, and the other two were in an opposition position.","PeriodicalId":204201,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Language and Culture Studies","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131584116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Novels in any language are the reflection of the daily life of a certain culture so the use of cultural words or terms in cultural activities cannot be avoided, and it may reach a certain extent that needs to be fully taken care of. To get the appropriate equivalents for the cultural words/terms, the translation mainly requires more detailed information through addition, expansion, or amplification in the target text and certainly not by omitting information. When it is allowed to omit a piece of information from the source text, it needs some requirements to be fulfilled. It is challenging and needs the skill to delete information of the source text without losing the unity of the message. Scholars give some classifications regarding the act of omitting, deleting, subtracting, and reducing information as guidance to start with. This research uses descriptive qualitative method to identify what information is omitted and what function of the omission performed in the English target text. The results show that the information omitted is more than what has been categorized in theory. They are not only repetition, specification of reference, adverbs and conjunction, vocatives, but also others such as elaborate information, whereas the functions of the omission, among others are to present only essential information by simplifying elaborate information, to shift from explicit information into implicit information, to shift from specific information into more general information, to avoid redundancy and to make the information concise.","PeriodicalId":204201,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Language and Culture Studies","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124185935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With other factors considered, the paper responds to the question; would it be beneficial in terms of earnings for both male and female residents of Ontario to either use only English, both English and French, or only French at work? Using census data from 2016, a log-linear model was fitted to a total sample 27,362 males and 22,752 females. Generally, there is significant difference (t=30.65>1.96; p=0.000<0.05) in wages between male and female workers. Also, the study concludes that there is only a significant difference in earnings if French is used alongside English at the workplace; however, both male and females need not to learn a second-official language while residing and working within Ontario as it does not benefit them in terms of their wages.","PeriodicalId":204201,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Language and Culture Studies","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123426600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a Middle Easterner surviving in the Western world, Changez suffered from ubiquitous biased treatment especially after September 11 events and it awakened him to penetrate the disguise and dominancy of global power worldwide. Accordingly, how the protagonist intentionally flaunted his characteristic of singularity to protest against the hegemonic power and simultaneously strengthened self-identification in the novel will be interpreted in the light of Jean Baudrillard’s assertion- “singularities are not necessarily violent, and there are some subtle ones, such as those of language, art, the body or culture.” Concerning immanent power sought from the idiosyncrasy of singularity, how the first-person narrator subverted and flipped the single-track route of hegemonic global power will be discussed by analyzing the cultural and ethnic portrayal of singularity flipping the stereotyped image of Islam appearance as the symbol for self-identification strengthening.","PeriodicalId":204201,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Language and Culture Studies","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131600017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several kinds of language disorders experienced by someone. This study aims to examine expressive language disorders in adolescents. The data of this research was extracted from the subject’s conversation, which was considered to have elements of language errors. The data source for this research was a teenager with the initials “NS,” who was used as the research subject. Data collection techniques used recording techniques, observation, and interviews. Data analysis techniques were carried out by describing, interpreting, and then explaining the forms of expressive language disorder and its causes. The analysis showed several forms of expressive language disorder experienced by NS, namely limited vocabulary, frequent vocabulary mistakes, difficulty forming long sentences, inability to start conversations, and difficulty rejoicing an event. Then the causal factors are cognitive, genetic, gender, and environmental factors.","PeriodicalId":204201,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Language and Culture Studies","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125772095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It seeks to uncover how an appeal to a glorious African past can divert present generations in Africa from understanding their history, facing their present and building their future. Using the concepts of romantic Gloriana and romantic primitivism from Ali Mazrui and Fanon’s analysis of mental alienation, it investigates the rationale behind Cynque’s conduct and his determination to lead a life reminiscent of African kingdoms into a modern Africa after he decides to leave America, where his life was strained by racism and disappointment, and to establish himself in Africa, in the fictitious state of Hapa. Cynque’s attitude, as that of Seth Spencer, another character working for the repressive machine of the Hapa regime, is at odds from the dedication and commitment of characters such as Ast, an American from African descent, who returns to the continent in order to help into its rebuilding under the efforts of the Manda group led by the revolutionary Asar.","PeriodicalId":204201,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Language and Culture Studies","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121778923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It intends to examine the practicality of language-in-education policy in schools and to examine the challenges pertaining to the implementation of the language of education policy. Data collection was done in four schools, two primary and two secondary schools in Kalemie region. The study employed a qualitative approach and the data were gathered through interviews, focus group discussions, observation and documentary review. Simple random sampling was used to get standard six pupils, form one students and teachers. The study employed the Proficiency Theory as a theory of bilingual education developed by Cummins. The study reveals that teachers from secondary schools use French language as a medium of instruction. It also indicates that language competence of the students is very weak. This is due to the transition from the national language, Kiswahili to French. The study notes that students are not comfortable with the medium of instruction, in this case French. It was discovered that, teachers face serious challenges on implementing the policy, such as students not being comfortable with the medium of instruction in the class, absence of teaching and learning materials, inadequate textbooks in schools, and lack of an organized library. However, the students indicated that, even if they have problems with French, they still prefer it to Kiswahili, since it is a language for their future job opportunities. The study recommends that there is a need for a political will to ensure the existence and growth of African languages and their position particularly in education.","PeriodicalId":204201,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Language and Culture Studies","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124374982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
