It is based on unique insights afforded by the MUSE model of a TWT. The phase distortion on dc and harmonic frequencies is studied via MUSE simulations. An approximate analytic solution to the S-MUSE model reveals that phase distortion up to the 1 dB gain compression point is due to the fact that the fundamental frequency is an intermodulation product of itself. Simulations are also compared to the large signal code LATTE. The majority of the phase distortion prior to gain compression is not due to the average slowing down of electrons was been analysed.","PeriodicalId":203178,"journal":{"name":"4th IEEE International Conference on Vacuum Electronics, 2003","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126779210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PEMG (plasma electromagnetic generator) allows to achieve the direct conversion of plasma stream energy to monochromatic microwave radiation by the decelerating plasma in a transverse magnetic field. The plasma stream moves through the transverse magnetic field with near-constant velocity as the drift flow. Ions of the plasma stream are ahead of the electrons and form longitudinal polarization of the plasma stream. Longitudinal electric field provides the conversion of ion kinetic energy to energy of rotating electron. The kinetic energy of the plasma stream transforms to the microwave radiation. The paper also presents the estimation of the possible level of PEMGs operation parameters and analysis of instability type of transverse electromagnetic waves.","PeriodicalId":203178,"journal":{"name":"4th IEEE International Conference on Vacuum Electronics, 2003","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115627450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
