In our pulse power system \"Chundoong\" (Max 600 kV, 88 kA, 60 ns), the perveance value have been experimentally investigated and estimated from diode voltage and diode current. In this experiment, the anode- cathode (A-K) gap distance d has been varied from 4 mm to 10 mm. It is noted in this experiment that the diode perveance characteristics could be described as 7.0/spl times/10/sup -9//d/sup 1.82/. This novel X-ray source is based on the nonlinear Thomson backscattering of terawatt ultrashort infra-red laser from MeV plasma accelerated electrons, which are now routinely generated from the laser-wakefield accelerators. The synchronization between the TW laser and e-beam can simply be achieved via a jitter-less optical delay. At KERI, a 2 TW 700 fs laser system has been installed and the experiment on e-beam generation is ongoing. For reduction the noise factor in this TWT has been increased at a sacrifice of the diameter of the cathode. Thus the amplitude of the magnetic field necessary for focusing the beam of a former has decreased. If P/sub input/ is greater than zero (P/sub input/ - output power), a noticeable dynamic defocusing took place (body current is greater than 10 mA). The dynamic defocusing has been suppressed due to the 1,2 times increase of the magnetic field at the end of the interaction space. The amplitude of the magnetic field was calculated. Compared to vertical field emitters using carbon nanotube cathodes, it has less alignment problems since the anode is fabricated at the same time as the cathode and the gates, and also may have reduced leakage since the electrodes are well separated. We use thermally oxidised S as the substrate. Initially, Cr/Au alignment marks are deposited to use as reference markers. Then a thin layer of Al is evaporated, which act as the sacrificial layer. Multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were synthesised by plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition and dispersed on the Al surface. Electron beam lithography is used to define the anode, gates and the cathode contacts of the devices. After Cr/Al metal deposition and lift-off the sacrificial Al is etched away leaving the carbon nanotube suspended. For analog TV, the average power varies substantially with picture content and standard. CW operation benefits of much better efficiencies because linearity and bandwidth are not needed. Enhancing beam efficiency was obtained by two ways: 1) better design of the gun and the output circuit. 2) use of depressed collectors, in which the electrons travel through retarding electric field and eventually fall on a collector with very little kinetic energy left.
