Consequently, A machine learning-based controller using an artificial neural network (ANN) is designed, which is able to regulate the voltage of DC-DC Boost converters. In this paper, the primary controller is a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) based controller which is replaced by an ANN controller after generating training and testing data. After training the neural network, the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and an integral control action are used to minimize the system's overshoot and steady-state error, respectively. All in all, for the performance validation and making comparison accurately, the output voltage of a boost converter controlled by the optimized ANN model is simulated in the MATLAB/Simulink, which is conclusive that the new ANN controller can track the reference voltage properly.","PeriodicalId":202568,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Electrical, Computer, Communications and Mechatronics Engineering (ICECCME)","volume":"654 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114088652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Working on their own research problems allows students to go through the entire research cycle, which promotes not only subject and methodological competencies but also the students' self-competencies. The handling of subject-specific and didactic challenges of this form of teaching-learning has been discussed many times in the past. New challenges for research-based learning now arise from the shift of teaching and learning to virtual space associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper focuses on the adaptation of a research-based teaching-learning format to the demands of e-learning in the course Interaction Science with Artificial Intelligence. We evaluated the adapted teaching-learning format with 18 students in a master's program in STEM. The students stated an increase in professional competence in the areas of programming, data preparation and data visualization. Our results suggest that peer group and direct interaction via synchronous communication channels are important structural frameworks for research-based learning in an online learning context. From our results, we can derive initial implications for online-based RBL in the field of computational education.","PeriodicalId":202568,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Electrical, Computer, Communications and Mechatronics Engineering (ICECCME)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114459349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recommending people on social media networks, products in various online shops, music, or movies are only a few use cases of these systems. The cold start problem, when no information about a new or infrequent user is available, is challenging for recommendation systems. We deal with creating restaurant and category recommendations for restaurant visitors. Recommendations are generated with different metrics and technologies based on user profiles to make recommendations as individual as possible. We use k-Means and Mean-Shift for clustering users to build a base for recommendations generated using user-based and content-based collaborative filtering methods. These suggestions consider the location of restaurants, the similarity between users and restaurants, and the ratings users give. We mitigate the cold-start problem by using matrix factorization and spatial information for users with few restaurant visits in the past. Recommendations are evaluated and adapted as a result of other user behavior to obtain better results. As a result, we can query recommendations via an Application Programming Interface (API), which consist of a mixture of location and user-based recommendation to please the users' needs by combining exploration and exploitation.","PeriodicalId":202568,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Electrical, Computer, Communications and Mechatronics Engineering (ICECCME)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114524143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Further, vein biometrics are captured in a contactless fashion that can further enable the inflection free user verification that is highly suitable for real-life scenario. In this work, we present a novel framework based on the fusion of deep features with the pre-trained AlexNet as the backbone for reliable wristvein-based biometric verification. The proposed method is based on the AlexNet and performs the feature extraction from three different fully connected layers. Extracted deep features are further compared using the Linear Support Vector Machine (L-SVM) and combined to make the final verification decision. Extensive experiments are carried out on the dataset comprised of 100 unique wristvein patterns corresponding to 50 unique data subjects. Extensive experiments are performed with three different evaluation protocols, and the verification performance of the proposed method is benchmarked with five different deep features-based wristvein verification algorithms. The obtained results indicate the improved performance of the proposed method on all three evaluation protocols.","PeriodicalId":202568,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Electrical, Computer, Communications and Mechatronics Engineering (ICECCME)","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116078297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the growing shortage of skilled nursing staff, the burden on individual nurses is steadily increasing. This increased cognitive and physical load also leads to an increased potential for error, especially in the aforementioned task of sorting pills. Given the potentially fatal outcome of errors in medication, this work presents a novel approach supporting the pill sorting task using augmented reality (AR). By leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), the current progress of the preparation task is monitored, and potential errors are reported instantly. For evaluation purposes, laymen and trained nurses had been invited to evaluate and rate the system. Participants first used a printed medication plan to execute the pill sorting task, followed by the AR-application. Simultaneously, distractions were simulated by applying cognitive overload via dual-tasking. In effect, a significantly lower error rate was observed when using the AR system when compared to conventional methods. A system usability score above average also underpins the feasibility of this concept on a participantive scale.","PeriodicalId":202568,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Electrical, Computer, Communications and Mechatronics Engineering (ICECCME)","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116164783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Blocks with highly correlated prediction errors are transform coded. The transform reduces the correlation and thus the data rate. In the case of screen content, impulse-like prediction errors often occur, which show only marginal or no correlation. Blocks with this impulse-like noise are coded directly without a transform as the transform would generate statistical dependencies between the coefficients and thus would lead to increased data rate. As the content to be coded is typically not aligned with the block structure of the prediction error coding, also situations occur, in which the correlated prediction errors are superposed by impulses. In these situations, none of the two codings is efficient. Transform coding is inefficient for the impulse-like noise and the direct coding is inefficient for the correlated prediction errors. In order to overcome this drawback in this paper, the superposed impulse-like noise is first separated from the correlated prediction errors. After separation, the impulse-like noise is efficiently coded directly without a transform and the correlated prediction errors are coded efficiently by the use of the transform. Experiments using the VVC reference implementation VTM-9.3 show average data rate reductions at the same PSNR of up to 1.6% depending on the sequence.","PeriodicalId":202568,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Electrical, Computer, Communications and Mechatronics Engineering (ICECCME)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123073501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data was post-processed from 3D cloud point format to 2D elevation images and template matching was used with normalized cross-correlation. Within a constrained search area it was possible to geo-localize the 2D patches of surface images on Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) elevation data. The transect 3D cloud point was transformed into a 12.5m resolution 2D surface image with the circular binning procedure, a resolution compatible with the Advanced Land Observation Satellite (ALOS) elevation maps used as reference. This application of template matching achieved 36m root mean square error, or about 4 pixels of error, over the LiDAR transect route. Position estimation is essential for autonomous navigation of aerial vehicles, and experiments with LiDAR data show potential for localization over densely forested regions, where Computer Vision methods using optical camera data may fail to acquire distinguishable features.","PeriodicalId":202568,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Electrical, Computer, Communications and Mechatronics Engineering (ICECCME)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123322847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This complex scenario will pose unprecedented challenges to network management and orchestration, which have required the employment of massive in-network intelligence. In-network intelligence will help 6G to achieve its performance indicators in terms of latency and resilience via prediction and proactive management. However, this will imply the significant increase of energy usage for intelligent operations like data mining and classification, learning, and decision-making. This is in contrast with the 6G objectives of sustainability and significant energy cost reduction. Then, the evaluation of the trade-off between in-network intelligence performance and energy usage has a key role. In this context, a testbed has been constructed to measure the energy cost of in-network intelligence systems, where the power cost of an emulated network system, deployed on the stand-alone host hardware, is measured in real-time. Using a vertical in-network intelligence application, our experiments have shown that the in-network intelligence system uses less power than a traditional centralized system, in turn contributing to higher energy efficiency. With increased in-network intelligence resources, less power is consumed, reaching a maximum reduction of 20 % in our experiments. Additionally, the results show that power savings of in-network intelligence also come from its reduced service time. This article illustrates the advantages of in-network computing to help reducing the energy usage of in-network intelligence while also achieving the 6G performance indicators.","PeriodicalId":202568,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Electrical, Computer, Communications and Mechatronics Engineering (ICECCME)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124890655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The comparator design was done in general-purpose 65 nm CMOS technology with the nominal power supply voltage of 1.2 V. The circuit design needs to function properly in industrial temperature range, which is from -20°C to 85°C. The rail-to-rail input voltage range is achieved without employing two differential pairs and also without an internal voltage biasing circuitry. Furthermore, the design process can be easily automated by means of calculation spreadsheet and employing $g_{m}/I_{D}$ design methodology. The presented comparator has been analyzed for robustness and accuracy across all PVT corners using post-layout extracted netlist. A number of parameters was investigated by Monte-Carlo analysis. The power consumption does not exceed $mathbf{1} mu mathbf{W}$ in the worst-case scenario, however in typical conditions, it remains below the first third of nano-watt range. The circuit also contains enable signal to minimize the power consumption when the circuit's function is not required. The topology itself, exhibits a promising potential for further research, since it can also work in ultra low-voltage regime thanks to only two stacked transistors.","PeriodicalId":202568,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Electrical, Computer, Communications and Mechatronics Engineering (ICECCME)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122161801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
