The heterogeneity is handled by the use of a common vocabulary which consists of parametrized tasks such as fly-to, take-off, scan-area, or land. Each of the platforms participating in a mission supports a subset of the tasks by providing their platform-specific implementations. This paper presents a detailed description of an approach for implementing such platform-specific tasks. It is achieved using a flight-command based interface with setpoint generation abstraction layer for vertical take-off and landing platforms. We show that by using this highly expressive and easily parametrizable way of specifying and executing flight behaviors it is straightforward to implement a wide range of tasks. We describe the method in the context of a previously described robotics architecture which includes mission delegation and execution system based on a task specification language. We present results of an experimental flight using the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126079702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic units of the endocrine system are the chemical messengers, otherwise known as hormones, which in enough numbers produce cascading effects in the host organism that promotes growth, maintains metabolism and much more. This behaviour is in effect a living metaphor indicative of the high throughput, constant flux and stochastic interactions that exist in complex topologies such as large scale IoT infrastructures.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116920052","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By examining the behavior of the Kalman gains, a target maneuver may be detected prior to the state change being detected. A first look at this approach is presented. The individual Kalman gains of the target tracking algorithm are monitored over time. Variations in the gains' behaviors such as zero crossings and short-term high frequency energy are seen to indicate the existence target maneuvers.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124326151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given that there is an extreme concentration of heat present on house roofs, the application of TEGs on these locations is feasible. This study involves the modeling of thermoelectric generators on house roofs through the use of simulations and an actual prototype. Simulations were done using the matrix laboratory (MATLAB) platform. The mathematical model of the system was created based on the factors that affect the generation capability of the TEG prototype module. The prototype was tested and observed at various locations having different environmental conditions, and other parameters like roof type, height, and solar irradiance were observed at every location. The equation being modeled is Vp=c*(Th–Tc); where c is the elevation constant, and (Th–Tc) is the difference in temperatures between the hot side and the cold side of the TEG. The accuracy and precision of the prototype were measured using the prediction method of the root mean square error (RMSE), and the computed RMSEs are 0.01143, 0.03063, and 0.01975 for plains, areas near the shore, and highlands, respectively.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114747119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed model is specifically applicable for illumination-variant natural scenes in big data video frames. In order to solve the illumination variation problem, a new feature set is formed by extracting features using histogram of gradients (HoG) and linear phase quantization (LPQ) techniques, which are combined to form a single feature-set to describe features in illumination variant natural scenes. Pre-processing is applied to reduce the search space and improve results, and as the humans are in constant motion in the frames, a search space pruning algorithm is applied to reduce the search space and improve detection accuracy. Non-maximal suppression is also applied for improved performance. A Support Vector Machine (SVM) based classifier is used for fast and accurate detection. Most of the current state-of-the-art detectors face numerous problems including false, missed, and inaccurate detections. The proposed detector model shows good performance, which was validated using relevant UCF and CDW test data-sets. In order to compare the performance of the proposed methodology with the state-of-the-art detectors, some selected detected frames were chosen considering their Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves. These curves are plotted to compare and evaluate the results based on miss rates and true positives rates. The results show the proposed model achieves best results.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128090306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents the development of AFCI lab setup to characterize DC arc current in DC circuits operating at 24-80 volts. The process to characterize the arc current utilizes the frequency spectrum of the arc current along with signal processing and a unique algorithm that allow us to develop an effective method to determine DC arcing occurrence. Once identified, an arc fault current interrupter circuit may then be designed to adequately eliminate the arc. Laboratory test setup and equipment for identifying DC arc will be described in this paper. Different scenarios for DC arcing occurrences in the development of the lab test setup will be explained. Several test results using the developed test setup to show the characteristic of arc current will also be presented.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121138112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this research work is to evaluate and characterize an EV battery power under real-world driving conditions in order to inform the design of the next generation systems. Also, we develop a framework of Connected Electric Vehicle Cloud (also known as connected EV cloud, or EV-cloud) to collect energy patterns and analyze driving behaviors for EV energy management. In this work we used a machine learning method based on Google's TensorFlow framework (TensorSOM) as our kernel analytic tool. Additionally, we utilized the SOM Toolbox on the Matlab platform to confirm the TensorSOM clustered results. The experimental result demonstrated that our proposed approach is a sensible solution for learning EV drivers' behaviors.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129807290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
