Data Aggregation is a technique which can be used to mitigate Big Data challenges within IoT. This paper provides an overview of various approaches for aggregation of data in IoT infrastructure. A new class of reliable Data Aggregation algorithm is discussed as well. This new class of algorithm uses a consensus based aggregation with fault tolerance methodology in Fog Computing. The new approach allows promoting adaptive behavior and more efficient delivery of the aggregation outcomes to the ascendant node(s). The proposed method is fault tolerant and deals with nodes reliability issues.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132587285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even the child has a simple smartphone with convenience, however, is it really meaningful for children to use smartphones? It is often the case that they use smartphones for watching \"YouTube\" or \"games\". those activities are only limited inside the frame of the screen. To solve this, here I propose the kaleidoscope application that combines digital (smartphone) with analog (kaleidoscope), which differs from the conventional smartphone application in respect of the usage, and is helpful for the education of the children. A body of the kaleidoscopes to be looked into is an analog device, but there is the screen of the smartphone in the bottom, and patterns change mysteriously in response to the screen changes. It is the educational application by which the knowledge of the science can be learned from an experience of the kaleidoscope vision.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132590922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many well-known DPS that operate on geographically distributed nodes, but the operating scale for such systems spans till also on-chip architectures. In this paper, we present a concept of distributed processing system for System-On-Chip scale and define the assumptions, architecture, components and show how to build the DPS over SoC. Using the proposed concept, we evaluate the low-level interconnection architectures: concentrated mesh and fat tree – and compare their efficiency with a well-known one – 2D mesh. The proposed DPS is formulated as MIP-style mathematical description, along with energy consumption metric. The properties of each object, abstraction layers and system operation are comprehensively defined. Proposed ideas and solutions are implemented in an experimentation system that is used to research their quality. Research results show that the concentrated mesh is a promising interconnection network suitable to handle the needs of distributed processing systems on a SoC.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134463782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem consists in minimizing the introduced cost function which is taken into account the necessity of crossing some intermediate points. The created and implemented algorithm to solving this problem is based on ant colony optimization. This algorithm is compared with the other implemented heuristic algorithms which had been designed according to genetic algorithm idea, and simulated annealing. The comparative analysis of algorithms' properties is made on the basis of the results of simulations made with the designed and implemented experimentation system. The obtained results of experiments confirmed that the proposed algorithm seems to be very promising.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123966345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tons of toxic waste added to water sources everyday contributes to the decrease in the planet’s biodiversity and even an extinction of many species of animals and marine life. Many millions of birds perish each year due to waterway pollution. New technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Wireless Sensor Networks and computer vision allow us to monitor fresh water sources in a continuous mode. To minimize the effects of pollution, various monitoring activities can be planned and executed for very large areas and geographical regions. This work presents a system architecture for the IoT-based multimodal data acquisition and analysis system. The idea is to deploy sensor clusters in various locations of a waterway to create a network of sensing and measuring smart devices. Every cluster of such devices can be perceived as a ‘thing’. Such a ‘thing’ or a node has camera sensing modalities for a macro level pollution detection with analog sensors to measure microlevel water parameters. Our solution involves a low power microprocessor devices provisioned to capture raw data, extract features from the raw data and then transmit these data to the Cloud for further analysis and reporting. A 5G mobile network communication is used for data transmission. The Cloud server runs a software framework that supports a sophisticated analysis and trending of various environmental parameters such as surface density of water, salinity, temperature, etc. The proposed software framework has a set of computational algorithms to process features supplied by each node. These algorithms can classify features into various classes like floating objects, water salinity level, etc. An experiment to simulate the ‘IoT’ data acquisition is conducted to validate the proposed solution. Based on a case study, this solution can be used in a real-life scenario representing as a feasible and viable solution to track pollution in urban waterways.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130344563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, deployment of advanced chargers and the associated communications networks will enable electric-vehicle fleets to serve particular needs of the power grid and microgrids. Incorporating plug-in electric vehicles as agents of energy storage in the grid can provide services to ancillary markets including frequency regulation. To prioritize research and development (R&D), this paper quantifies the sensitivity of vehicle-to-grid enterprise initiatives and milestones subject to a variety of emergent and future conditions, and demonstrates how the results of the analysis can be used for further investigation of initiatives. These conditions involve technology innovation (fast bi-directional chargers and related information technologies), environment, market prices, regulations, organizations, behaviors, workforce, etc. The results identify combinations of conditions for which research and development (R&D) are most beneficial. The approach includes scenario-based preferences to inform decision makers which initiatives are robust to variety of emergent and future conditions, thus supporting resilience of plans for electric vehicle fleets in logistics systems. An R&D initiative of particular concern is regional resource planning. An agent-based simulation is performed to forecast the availabilities of the vehicles at hour-long intervals, including route locations, and the state of charge of batteries. The paper has a context in the systems engineering body of knowledge (SEBoK), particularly as methodology for risk analysis and systems engineering.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125665411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such cases, drivers suffer from understanding instinctively the HUD information. Visibility enhancement of HUD information is very important for drivers to recognize easily and quickly the information. In this paper, we propose two visibility enhancement methods of HUD image, which are based on the dominant color of background scene. One is to change the color of symbols, another is to add different color outline to symbols of HUD information, depending on the similarity between HUD information and background dominant colors. To compare the color similarity, HSI (Hue, Saturation, Intensity) color domain is used. The proposed methods are designed to minimize the color change, so as to maintain the meaning of symbol color. Through the simulations, we show that the proposed color changing and outline methods are effective to improve the instinctive understanding.","PeriodicalId":202005,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127190535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
