Frossard","doi":"10.5281/ZENODO.42811","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5281/ZENODO.42811","url":null,"abstract":"This paper proposesa novel joint reconstruction algorithm to decode sets of correlated images from distributively compressed images. We consider a scenario where the images captured at different viewpoints are encoded independently using transform-based coding solutions (e.g., SPIHT) with a balanced rate distribution among different cameras. A central decoder jointly processes the compressed images and reconstructs an image pair by exploiting the inter-view correlation. The central decoder first estimates the underlying correlation model from the independently decoded images and it is eventually used for the joint signal recovery. The joint reconstruction is cast as a constrained convex optimization problem that reconstructs a total-variation (TV) smooth image pair that satisfies with the estimated correlation model. At the same time, we add constraints that force the reconstructed images to be as close as possible to the compressed views. We show by experiments that the proposed joint reconstruction scheme outperforms independent reconstruction in terms of image quality, for a given target bit rate.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123471649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional array signal processing (ASP) techniques are not suitable for such a scenario since the locations of the wireless sensors are unknown and probably vary over time. In this paper we investigate the use of blind source extraction (BSE) techniques in such a combined acoustic sensor network to perform speech enhancement. We present strategies that apply traditional ASP techniques to the fixed microphone array, while simultaneously the spatial diversity provided by the wireless microphones is exploited. Our conclusion is that BSE techniques can be used in a combined wireless and fixed microphone network to perform speech enhancement.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121957881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, one considers the situation in which automatic identification system (AIS) signals are received by a satellite. The proposed receiver uses a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) for error correction. A Viterbi algorithm based on a so-called extended trellis is developed. This trellis is defined by extended states composed of a trellis-code state and a CRC state. Moreover, special conditional transitions are defined in order to take into account the possible presence of bit stuffing. The proposed algorithm was first developed in a single-user context. It is generalized in this paper to a multi-user scenario by designing an interference mitigation method. This method allows one to derive a demodulation algorithm whose complexity is almost identical to that obtained in the single-user context. Some performance results are presented in the context of AIS and compared with results provided by existing techniques.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131282201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Using spiking neural networks for light spot tracking","authors":"M. Hulea","doi":"10.5281/ZENODO.43217","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5281/ZENODO.43217","url":null,"abstract":"This paper introduces a new method for automatically compensating the light spot displacement from the normal position in laser spot trackers. The method is based on hardware implementation of the spiking neural networks which provides fast response due to real time operation and ability to learn unsupervised when they are stimulated by concurrent events. To validate this method we implemented in hardware a spiking neural network structure able to process the input from a photodiode array and to control a positioning system. The performance of the neural network that is based on an electronic neuron of biological inspiration was tested using the output of the photodiode array placed in strait line. The results show that the rapport between the energy consumed by the spiking neural network and the accuracy in compensating the spot moving on horizontal or vertical directions is significantly better than the rapport which is obtainable when programmable computing devices solve the same task. These results are encouraging to develop low power spot tracking system for enhancing the receiving accuracy in free space optics or for enhancing the efficacy of the photovoltaic systems.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129794812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An experimental study of the acoustic field inside the car interior leads us to propose a hybrid beamforming algorithm, taking two frequency ranges into account, according to the multichannel noise signal coherence. While in the high frequency range, the noise signals for different microphones show little coherence, the same signals are strongly coherent in the low frequency range. This observation leads us to design a hybrid system where an adaptive Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) beamforming is used in the high frequency range, while a Speech Distortion Weighted Multichannel Wiener Filter (SDW-MWF) is applied in the low frequency range. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated by objective performance measurements on real in-car audio data, and shows promising results.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116431637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Unsupervised segmentation of nonstationary pairwise Markov Chains using evidential priors","authors":"M. E. Boudaren, E. Monfrini, W. Pieczynski","doi":"10.5281/ZENODO.42998","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5281/ZENODO.42998","url":null,"abstract":"Hidden Markov models have been widely used to solve some inverse problems occurring in image and signal processing. These models have been recently generalized to pairwise Markov chains, which present higher modeling capabilities with comparable computational complexity. To be applicable in the unsupervised context, both models assume the data of interest stationary. When these latter are actually stationary, the models yield satisfactory results thanks to some Bayesian techniques such as MPM and MAP. However, when the data are nonstationary, they fail to establish an appropriate link with the data and the obtained results are quite poor. One interesting way to overcome this drawback is to use the Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence by introducing a mass function to model the lack of knowledge of the a priori distributions of the hidden data to be recovered. It has been shown that the use of such theory in the hidden Markov chains context yields significantly better results than those provided by the standard models. The aim of this paper is to apply the same theory in the pairwise Markov chains context to deal with nonstationary data hidden with correlated noise. We show that MPM restoration of data remains workable thanks to the triplet Markov models formalism. We also provide the corresponding parameters estimation in the unsupervised context. The new evidential model is then assessed through experiments conducted on synthetic and real images.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134593317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It proposes to exploit a statistical model of natural images adjacent pixels difference. In this paper, the detection problem is first addressed in a theoretical context when cover image parameters are known. The most powerful likelihood ratio test (LRT) is designed and its statistical performances are analytically expressed. Then, for a practical case of unknown image analysis, an estimation of distribution parameters is proposed to designed a test whose performance are also analytically established. Numerical results on a large image database shows the relevance of proposed methodology.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134315123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bayesian estimation of the Dirichlet distribution with expectation propagation 带期望传播的狄利克雷分布的贝叶斯估计

{"title":"Bayesian estimation of the Dirichlet distribution with expectation propagation","authors":"Zhanyu Ma","doi":"10.5281/ZENODO.52389","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5281/ZENODO.52389","url":null,"abstract":"As a member of the exponential family, the Dirichlet distribution has its conjugate prior. However, since the posterior distribution is difficult to use in practical problems, Bayesian estimation of the Dirichlet distribution, in general, is not analytically tractable. To derive practically easily used prior and posterior distributions, some approximations are required to approximate both the prior and the posterior distributions so that the conjugate match between the prior and posterior distributions holds and the obtained posterior distribution is easy to be employed. To this end, we approximate the distribution of the parameters in the Dirichlet distribution by a multivariate Gaussian distribution, based on the expectation propagation (EP) framework. The EP-based method captures the correlations among the parameters and provides an easily used prior/posterior distribution. Compared to recently proposed Bayesian estimation based on the variation inference (VI) framework, the EP-based method performs better with a smaller amount of observed data and is more stable.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133493631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on a model describing the received signal, the parameters of the model can be used to characterize the illuminated scene. A realization of parameter estimation via atomic decomposition is presented. The estimated parameters are then mapped onto the iso-range-Doppler grid to form a SAR image.
