A series of experiments using Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) with different stimulation frequencies, pulse width and pulse duration to investigate the impact on muscle output torque are conducted. The data that is obtained is used to develop the paraplegic hamstrings muscle model. 588 training data and 220 testing data set are used in the development of hamstrings muscle model. The ANFIS hamstrings muscle model is found to be the most accurate muscle model representing paraplegic hamstrings muscle model. The established model is then used to predict the behaviour of the underlying system and will be used in the future for the design and evaluation of various control strategies.","PeriodicalId":200002,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Intelligent Systems Modelling and Simulation","volume":"62 12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133870897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, several mobile services are developed to connect users to their favourite social networks such as Face book, Twitter, Flickr, etc. However, these services depends upon the existing web based social networks. In this paper, we present a mobile service called Mobilink for joining groups across communities. The originality of the work is that the framework of the service allows creating and joining social networks that are self contained for mobile company servers. The service consists of several sub-services such as users invitation, group finding and others. Users can use Mobil ink and its sub-services without the need to create their own accounts on social web sites and thus their own groups.","PeriodicalId":200002,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Intelligent Systems Modelling and Simulation","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114407512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A linear single degree-of-freedom (DOF) structure is considered. It is supposed that mass, damping and stiffness coefficients of the structure contain uncertainty. Two different methods based on sliding mode control (SMC) are proposed. The first method uses upper bounds of the system uncertainties in the control law but in the second method a prior knowledge about the bounds of the uncertainties is not necessary and the controller adapts itself during the control procedure. Numerical simulation is used to show the efficiency of the proposed approaches. The simulation results depict that both methods cause significant reduction in the displacement and velocity of the controlled structure in comparison with the uncontrolled one. Furthermore, the magnitude of control forces reveal that implementation of the proposed methods from the viewpoint of real-world applications is feasible.","PeriodicalId":200002,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Intelligent Systems Modelling and Simulation","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123614251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system consists of four modules: collection of input images, feature extraction, Hidden Markov Model (HMM) training, and gesture recognition. First, we apply skin segmentation procedure throughout the input frames in order to detect only skin region. Then, we proceed to feature extraction process consisting of centroids, hand distance and hand orientation collecting. Kalman Filter is used to identify the overlapping hand-head or hand-hand region. After having extracted the feature vector, the hand gesture trajectory is represented by gesture path in order to reduce system complexity. We apply Hidden Markov Model (HMM) to recognize the input gesture. The gesture to be recognized is separately scored against different states of HMMs. The model with the highest score indicates the corresponding gesture. In the experiments, we have tested our system to recognize 112 MSL, and the recognition rate is about 83%.","PeriodicalId":200002,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Intelligent Systems Modelling and Simulation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131311566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In line with this objective, most of the researchers have used multiple types of optimization technique to regulate the DG's output to compute its optimal size. In this paper, a comparative studies of a new proposed Rank Evolutionary Particle Swarm Optimization (REPSO) method with Evolutionary Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO) and Traditional Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is conducted. Both REPSO and EPSO are using the concept of Evolutionary Programming (EP) in Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) process. The implementation of EP in PSO allows the entire particles to move toward the optimal value faster. A test on determining optimum size of DGs in 69 bus radial distribution system reveals the superiority of REPSO over PSO and EPSO.","PeriodicalId":200002,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Intelligent Systems Modelling and Simulation","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131467289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main concern of this paper is to analyze and explore the various components for designing dynamic load balancing algorithms and to propose new information and location policies factoring in the limitations of the existing approaches. We also present a compartive analysis of existing information policies and location policies based on a set of defined parameters. This analysis is useful in identifying the lacunae in the current research in dynamic load balancing algorithms and justifies the need for a novel efficient dynamic load balancing algorithm.","PeriodicalId":200002,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Intelligent Systems Modelling and Simulation","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126840060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, a manual fruit grading has several drawbacks such as subjectivity, tediousness and inconsistency. By automating the procedure, as well as developing new classification technique, it may solve these problems. This paper presents the novel work on the bio-inspired multi-modality sensing system for classification and quality assessment of mangoes cv. Harumanis Mango using charge coupled device (CCD) camera and Infrared (IR) camera. A Fourier-based shape separation method was developed from CCD camera images to grade mango by its shape and able to correctly classify 100%. Colour intensity from infrared image was used to distinguish and classify the level of maturity and ripeness of the fruits. The finding shows 92% correct classification of maturity levels by using infrared vision.","PeriodicalId":200002,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Intelligent Systems Modelling and Simulation","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125306642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
