TAC was assessed using the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay, the 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical (ABTS), and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assays. Additionally, the capacity of the samples to reduce ferric ions to ferrous ions (FRAP) was measured. Results: the TAC of prepared foods and beverages ranged from 6 to 102 µmol ET/g in the ORAC assay, with mole pastes showing the highest values. Beverages ranged from 0 to 25 µmol ET/g in ORAC. For the ABTS assay, values ranged from 21-342 mg EAA/g, from 0 to 297 µmol ET/g with DPPH, and from 11-298 mg EAA/g in FRAP. Foods such as grilled tuna, bell peppers with onions, red mole, stewed huitlacoche, refried black beans, rajas with cream, and corn exhibited the highest values. Conclusions: the foods and beverages examined in this study exhibited significant TAC, which can be attributed to both: the ingredients (e.g., peppers, tomatoes, spices such as garlic, pepper, cilantro, and lemon) and methods of preparation.</p>","PeriodicalId":19385,"journal":{"name":"Nutricion hospitalaria","volume":" ","pages":"555-562"},"PeriodicalIF":2.5,"publicationDate":"2025-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143992231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to evaluate the association between NB, urinary parameters, and adverse outcomes among ICU patients. Methods: NB, urinary urea (UUE) and creatinine (UCE) excretion were recorded in the first week of ICU. The primary outcome was ICU mortality, and secondary outcomes were time on mechanical ventilation (MV), ICU and hospital length of stay and hospital mortality. Results: a total of 127 patients were included (58 ± 16 years, 87.4 % clinical admissions). Negative NB was observed in 77.2 % patients in the first and 47.2 % patients in the second measurement, with a protein intake of 40 (25-58) vs 86 (64-107) g/day. The ICU and hospital mortality rates were 22.0 % and 30.7 %. There was no identified cut-off point for sensibility and specificity in the ROC curves for NB and urinary parameters regarding ICU and hospital mortality. The purpose of this narrative review is to highlight those clinical trials that have documented weight gain and associated factors among PLWH on INsTI-ART. This includes the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms, toxicity, impact on adipose tissue, and how this tissue becomes metabolically dysfunctional, contributing to the emergence of insulin resistance and other comorbidities in PLWH. Considering the impact of the modern obesogenic environment and that PLWH on INsTI-ART are living longer, a coordinated approach by infectious disease specialists and other physicians to address the metabolic complications affecting this population, is imperative. Exposure to Cr by PN in preterm infants is scarcely investigated. Objective: to describe Cr levels in plasma (Crp) and urine (Cru) during the first month of life in premature newborns ≤ 1500 g of birthweight (BW) receiving PN, and to evaluate the impact on postnatal clinical parameters. Methods: a prospective observational study. Cr-free PN was administered at day 1 of life and continued until full enteral feeding with fortified breastmilk began. Crp levels at day 15 and 30 and Cru at day 30 of life were assessed according to demographic factors, biochemical markers and postnatal morbidity. Results: 97 infants had a median gestational age (GA) of 29.9 weeks, and a median BW of 1205 g. Median Crp remained at 1.0 µg/L at 15 and 30 days (IQR 0.7-1.4 and 0.7-1.3, respectively). Premature babies < 26 weeks had a significantly higher Crp at one month than the remainder (p = 0.043) and higher Cr elimination in the urine (p = 0.026). Crp increased with prolonged PN (p < 0.001), even after adjusting for gestational age (p = 0.001). Laboratory parameters were not influenced by Crp or Cru, nor was morbidity. Conclusion: Crp increases with days of PN even when a trace mineral supplement without Cr is used, and the level reached persists during the first month of life with the introduction of Cr-supplemented breastmilk feeding. No relation to morbidity was observed.</p>","PeriodicalId":19385,"journal":{"name":"Nutricion hospitalaria","volume":" ","pages":"411-419"},"PeriodicalIF":2.5,"publicationDate":"2025-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143080387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: a longitudinal study that included 34 children diagnosed with ASD of both sexes, from 4 to 11 years of age, recruited at convenience in the Mental Health Service of the National Institute of Pediatrics in Mexico City. Objective: to evaluate the improvement in nutritional parameters of patients undergoing bariatric surgery after supplementation with beta-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (HMB). Methodology: intervention study comparing 2 types of protein supplementation (with and without HMB) in the 3 months after surgery. All patients underwent a baseline and 3-month anthropometric, body composition, dynamometry and analytical study with usual nutritional determination, inflammation markers (CRP and IL-6), muscle markers (irisin, CK) and MRO (CTX, P1NP, sclerostin). Adherence was assessed and physical activity was recorded. Results: a total of 24 patients (87.5 % women) with a mean age of 52 ± 8 years were included. There were no statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) between intervention vs control in weight loss (17.5 ± 1.3 vs 19.1 ± 1.7 kg), MME (3.07 ± 1.7 vs 3.06 ± 136 kg), MG (12.9 ± 0.8 vs 14.7 ± 1.4 kg) or in dynamometry.
