The test system considered here is a two area power system. Each area in the test system has two generators. A linear matrix inequality (LMI) based state feedback control law is designed with the help of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional. A thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) is used to provide sufficient damping in the interconnected power system. A supplementary damping controller (SDC) is also used with the TCSC. The effect of time delay in the control signal is also considered in this paper for the two area four machine power system.","PeriodicalId":193814,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Applied Signal Processing Conference (ASPCON)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123791825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Memetic or cultural factors originate from training-related influences on pen-grip style and writing-strokes. This work presents a writer identification scheme using individuality of handwriting. Performance of such a scheme is greatly influenced by judicious selection off eatures and their combinations. In this work three types of features are selected, namely, line based, word based and character based. Importance of these features in writer identification is explored in the work. A dataset of English handwritten text samples written by subjects of Bengali origin and Bengali-medium schooling background is used for experimentation. Results are given for different combinations of features mentioned above. Emphasis is given on stroke features which include shapes like doughnut, hump, stick and stem-loop. They are found commonly in English lowercase letters. Best results obtained by using classifiers MLP and K-STAR are 93.54 percent and 95.69 percent respectively.","PeriodicalId":193814,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Applied Signal Processing Conference (ASPCON)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122582193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on an arbitrary model of robotic manipulator, final position of end-effector was computed using four Denavit–Hartenberg (DH) parameters, associated with each link by forward kinematics. A feedback control topology was implemented that reduced the squared sum error, between the desired end-effector position and obtained end-effector position, in each iteration of PSO, within 3 dimensional cartesian space. The PSO provided optimized values of link parameters i.e. joint angles for revolute joints and link lengths for prismatic joints, so that the end-effector could be perfectly positioned at desired coordinate. This algorithm was successfully implemented in MATLAB/Simulink and tested on several arbitrary robotic manipulator with n-DOF system and it provided satisfactory result on controlling and positioning the end-effector.","PeriodicalId":193814,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Applied Signal Processing Conference (ASPCON)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114187798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A proper hand gesture recognizing system can be used to build a robust text entry system for human-computer interface. This work proposes a real-time hand localization and recognition system. For hand localization, YOLOv3 is used that predicts a bounding box around the hand, and for hand gestures classification, a pretrained VGG16 network is employed. The bounding box regression technique helped localize the ROI (region of interest) and reduced the complexity, that aided in the classification task. The experimental results show that the proposed method is capable of recognizing the gestures with high testing accuracy on three benchmark datasets, namely, ASL (American sign language), Libras and NUS (National University of Singapore) datasets.","PeriodicalId":193814,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Applied Signal Processing Conference (ASPCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128507345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS) analysis is a non-invasive technique to identify the condition of the insulation. Electric modulus and dissipation factor (tanδ) are the popular frequency domain spectroscopies for condition monitoring of dielectric insulation. An attempt is made to study the ageing (made by accelerated thermal heating) status using electric modulus (EM) and tanδ spectroscopy.","PeriodicalId":193814,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Applied Signal Processing Conference (ASPCON)","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128497289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This requires user identification in almost all services, including healthcare services. ECG based biometry is an emerging technology that shows promising results as well as robustness against spoofing attack. Most of the works in this field have been done using one channel of ECG signal. Hence they don’t use the information on spatial variation of ECG signal, which is unique to every person. In this work, we have proposed a long short term memory(LSTM) based multichannel data fusion technique that can exploit the spatial variation of the ECG signal. The results show that better accuracy can be achieved using less amount of enrollment data. We have achieved an accuracy of 98.77% and 99.29% for person identification in PTB and MIT-BIH arrhythmia database, respectively.","PeriodicalId":193814,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Applied Signal Processing Conference (ASPCON)","volume":"28 1 Suppl 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116567914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper variation of mesopic adaptation luminance and adaptation state of observer are experimentally investigated under different lamp combinations creating surrounding lighting ambience. Mesopic adaptation luminance is estimated in presence of two different surrounding lighting conditions obtained by two types of light sources of different spectral compositions i.e. yellow enriched warm white and blue enriched cool white. Detailed study of experimental results shows that spectral characteristics of surrounding light sources has notable effect on mesopic and adaptation luminance. The blue enriched white LED (WLED) lamp shows most effectual adaptation state of observer in presence of cool white surrounding ambience.","PeriodicalId":193814,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Applied Signal Processing Conference (ASPCON)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123205539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
