As product engineering becomes increasingly knowledge-intensive and collaborative, the need for computational framework based on the integration of people, information/knowledge and technology becomes more crucial. The magnitude and orientation angle of the rotor flux of the induction motor are determined by the output of the closed-loop rotor flux observer based on the calculation of the extended electromotive force of machine. The proposed stator flux oriented control scheme is robust to parameter variations and external disturbances. Both, observer and controller, utilize the continuous sliding mode and Lyapunov theory. A smooth transition into the field weakening region and the full utilization of the inverter current and voltage capability are thus made possible. The produced torque is a continuous output variable of control. The reference tracking performance is demonstrated by experiments. Nowadays, the analysis and design of power systems involve numerical computer modeling and simulations. Besides the classical techniques, which are conventionally used for analyzing power systems, artificial intelligence techniques have come up as a logical solution to the large-scale, non-linear nature inherent in such systems as can be observed in power systems literature. The integration of these new techniques for power system analysis enables better understanding of the subject with hands-on practice on personal computers through simulations. The interest in image search algorithms has grown out of the necessity of managing large image databases that are now commonly available on removable storage media and wide area networks. The objective of this paper is to present a novel image retrieval system based on texture features extraction. The system works with the subdatabases that include images with the same content. Subdatabases are described with centroids. Power is supplied to trains from contact lines on the ground through the pantographs mounted on trains. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt a contact line system that will limit contact loss within the allowable limits for inverters. In addition, high-speed railways of Japan tend to be constructed in tunnel sections in recent years. When compared with catenary systems, rigid conductor line systems feature a simple structure and easy maintenance. It also saves tunnel construction costs. Since conventional rigid conductor lines do not have elasticity against pantographs in current collection, however, the current collecting performance depends on its pantograph compliance characteristics and the unevenness of its contact surface. This makes it difficult to cope with train operation over 160 km/h. To use rigid conductor line systems for train operation over 160 km/h, therefore, we have developed a new rigid conductor line. However the plants have been built on heterogeneous communication technologies that use various approaches for representation of data. Heterogeneity of the plants is faced using combinations of various software and hardware gateways. The presented paper describes why the use of gateways is not a good solution in general, and presents a technology that can be the ultimate solution of interoperability issues in automation. The paper presents disadvantages of gateway based interoperability solutions in heterogeneous control environments and emphasizes possible interoperable solution. The proposed solution is based on emerging open technologies that promise to deliver interoperable services for exchange of all kinds of data among computer systems without the need to perform frustrating conversions between disparate protocols and incompatible data structures. Moreover the proposed interoperability solution will guarantee both interoperability in the field of process automation, and interoperability with future applications of ubiquitous computing too. It's necessary to implement efficient control algorithms to make them navigate well in both indoor and outdoor environments. The main contribution of this paper is to present an approach for mobile robot control which can be a basis for another step in the development of intelligent autonomous robots. The robot control algorithm is being developed under the Webots professional simulation environment. Two general approaches for robot navigation are also presented: the model-based, which uses complete model of the environment to navigate efficiently, and the behavior-based approach, which uses no or only sparse modeling of the environment for the navigation. The paper consists of five sections. In the first section, an introduction is presented. The second section introduces the webots simulation environment, the ALife contest and some features of the robot controller algorithm. In the third section, the principal problems of navigation are discussed and control scheme for navigation is presented. The accuracy of the surface reconstruction in the volume rendering is very important task as well as reconstruction accuracy of the normal vector. The central difference operator is often used as approximation of the gradient. The gradient reconstruction is an essential operation for determination of illumination and it has a great impact on the appearance of the reconstructed surface of an object. Our reconstruction of the gradient is based on the cubic approximation or interpolation B-splines. Volume rendering is visualization technique with widespread applicability in many fields, from the medical visualization to the engine visualization. The noise characteristics are given for normal operations of power line network and foul weather condition. The model of power line channel including impulse noise is appropriated for investigation of channel coding methods. The bit error rate (BER) of M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation over PLC channel is given and represents the starting point for coding gain estimation. The BITCM system model is based on QAM mapping. Therefore, mechatronics is becoming more sought after option for engineering students and industrial enterprises to undertake and adopt. Universities around the world are competing to satisfy the increasing trend for mechatronics courses and mechatronics engineers. However in the middle of this intense competition, universities, sometimes, overlook what can really make a \"real\" mechatronics program. A mechatronics course has to include essential elements, other than just its title, to be truly mechatronics course. This paper discusses the essential elements that should exist in a mechatronics course. The paper also presents the experience gained from mechatronics course development in both Australia and overseas.
