In most cases, these diseases have a bad prognosis without treatment, and the treatment is complicated in these diseases. With the introduction of therapeutic apheresis (TA), since more than 45 years, has led in combination with immunosuppressive therapies to a steady increase in survival rates over the last decades. TA is accepted as supportive therapy in all antibodymediated diseases. Further modern therapy are different human monoclonal antibodies (HMA) with or without TA. Besides, the pathological aspects, the first-line and second-line therapies for immunologic diseases, such as renal, neurological, hematological, dermatological, and autoimmune diseases, which are possible, are shown. For immunological diseases that can be treated with TA, the guidelines of the Apheresis Applications Committee of the American Society for Apheresis are cited. TA has been shown to effectively remove the autoantibodies from blood and lead to rapid improvement.","PeriodicalId":191133,"journal":{"name":"Clinical Immunology & Research","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134607841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: this is a prospective study from November 4, 2013 to April 4, 2014 carried out at the Exau Kenn medical center laboratory located opposite the Makelekele Base Hospital (I Brazzaville district). A toxoplasmic serology was taken from all pregnant women (first trimester) admitted to the Laboratory as part of a medical follow-up of their pregnancies. Serodiagnosis was performed by the agglutination technique associated with the indirect solid phase immunoenzymatic technique (EIA). Results: Of 139 pregnant women included in our study, 56.12% were immunized and 43.88% unimmunized. The seroprevalence was 69.04%. The percentage of women aged under 20 was 22.22%; and those between 20 and 39 years old was 46.77%; then 31.01% among those over 39 years of age. The risk factors incriminated in toxoplasmic infection for our study were: contact with soil, consumption of raw vegetables, level of hygiene and contact with cats. Conclusion: toxoplasmosis in pregnant women in Brazzaville is a real problem that must be regularly revealed in order to put in place an action plan to identify and evade it.","PeriodicalId":191133,"journal":{"name":"Clinical Immunology & Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134472111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that five doses are needed in order to acquire lifelong immunity against tetanus. A pregnant mother is considered to be more than 80% protected once she receives at least two doses of the vaccine. This study aimed to identify challenges experienced by the healthcare workers on maternal Tetanus Toxoid (TT) vaccination in Kilimanjaro region, Tanzania. Method: A qualitative approach comprising of In-Depth Interviews (IDIs) and focus group discussion (FGD) was conducted with 10 healthcare workers selected from 10 health facilities in remote villages of Hai district. The healthcare workers were selected purposively based on their availability and convenience; thematic analysis guided the data process. Results: Majority of the Healthcare workers were female, enrolled nurses with college education; their age ranged between 26-59 years with experience of work between 1 to 31 years. Main themes were extracted from the analysis namely: unreliable storage of vaccines, shortage of vaccines, shortage of healthcare workers, behavior of the healthcare workers and spousal influence on maternal vaccinations. Conclusion: The shortage and unreliable storage of TT vaccine has led to mothers missing their required doses, the spousal support and good mother-provider relationship is essential to ensure that the pregnant and post-natal mothers receive all the required doses. The regional and district health officials should ensure constant supply of TT vaccine with the recommended standards of vaccine storage facilities.","PeriodicalId":191133,"journal":{"name":"Clinical Immunology & Research","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122057397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the first case, taVNS was started after eleven hospital days of continual deterioration despite mechanical ventilation along with supportive therapy of steroids, antibiotics, and immunoglobulins. On the twelfth day of hospitalization, taVNS was begun four times daily, resulting in sudden improvement in oxygenation. There was a concomitant reduction of c-reactive protein from 109.6 μg/mL to 10 μg/mL. After nine days of taVNS therapy, the patient's improved respiratory function improved enough that she was able to be extubated. No additional treatments had been added or changed during this time. After twenty-seven days of hospitalization, the patient was discharged to home without supplemental oxygen. The second case involves taVNS therapy in the home setting. After nineteen days of progressive deterioration, the patient's oxygen saturation declined to 90% on room air before taVNS treatment was instituted. After tens days of taVNS treatment three times daily, his oxygen saturation had climbed to 97%, and by day 25 of VNS therapy, the patient felt he was fully recovered. taVNS is capable of improving regulation of the inflammatory response in other clinical conditions such as autoimmune disorders in humans and septic shock in animal models. We suggest that transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation is potent enough to improve the clinical course of COVID-19 associated ARDS because of its potential to minimize the clinical deterioration associated with the immunological surge known as the cytokine storm. taVNS is a safe and potentially efficacious treatment for COVID-19 ARDS.","PeriodicalId":191133,"journal":{"name":"Clinical Immunology & Research","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122600157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was aimed at providing data on the antibiotic susceptibility profile of Salmonella and Shigella species from frozen chicken sold within the Awka metropolis. Methodology: A total of 100 frozen chicken samples were obtained from different markets within the Awka metropolis. Smear samples were gotten from each chicken sample using sterile swab stick. Salmonella and Shigella samples were isolated after culturing the samples with Salmonella –Shigella agar and pure isolates identified morphologically, by Gram and biochemical characteristics. Antibiotic susceptibility test was performed using the disc diffusion method as recommended by CSLI. Isolates that showed resistance to any of the third-generation cephalosporin used were further subjected to the Double Disk Synergy Tests (DDST). Results: Of the 100 samples, 25 Shigella spp and 51 isolates of Salmonella were isolated. All Salmonella and Shigella isolates were resistant to the β-latam antibiotics. A 100% of the shigella isolates were resistant to all generation cephalospoin used. The bacterial spps were however, sensitive to nitrofurantoin and ciprofloxacin. Conclusion: This study has shown that frozen chicken serves as sources/ reservoir for bacterial infections. The isolates were resistant to the cephalosporins but sensitive to ciprofloxacin and nitrofurantoin.","PeriodicalId":191133,"journal":{"name":"Clinical Immunology & Research","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126442334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work has assessed the level of attitudes (stigmatization and discrimination) faced by people living with HIV in Northcentral Nigeria. HIV-related stigma refers to negative beliefs, feelings and attitudes towards people living with HIV/AIDS, their families, people who work with them (HIV service providers), and members of groups that have been heavily impacted by HIV/AIDS, such as gay and bisexual men, homeless people, street youth, and mentally ill people while HIV discrimination refers to the unfair and unjust treatment of someone based on their real or perceived HIV status. North central Nigeria consists of six states and the Federal capital territory Abuja. The states are Benue, Plateau, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Kogi. Secondary data from federal ministry of health is used for the assessment.","PeriodicalId":191133,"journal":{"name":"Clinical Immunology & Research","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130322200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Violence, stigma, criminalization of behaviors practiced by these groups, and potential participants’ suspicion toward the research and the researchers, further limit willingness to voluntarily participate. We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive and retrospective qualitative formative study with women who have sex with women in Dar-es-Salaam City region, Tanzania. The aim, among other objectives, was to understand women who have sex with women’s attitudes and willingness to participate in future female same sex public health research targeting this group. Findings indicate that all women we studied expressed willingness to participate in future health research targeting issues around female same sex relationships in the Tanzania context; an opportunity for (public) health professionals to prevent and control diseases in the country. To attain this goal, we recommend tailoring research protocols’ content, communication messages, and recruitment tactics to recognize, appreciate, and embrace the specific characteristics, backgrounds, and concerns of women who have sex with women in Tanzania.","PeriodicalId":191133,"journal":{"name":"Clinical Immunology & Research","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121711592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is no HBV immunization policy for university students in Bangladesh, and the virus can be transmited during blood transfusion if blood is not adequately screened. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of HBV infection, vaccination status of HBV, and to determine risk factors for HBV infection among University students in Bangladesh. Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted among 614 randomly selected students of four Universities in Dhaka from July 2018 to November 2018 on behalf of Thalassaemia hospital and Institute, a project of IACIB during the screening of Thalassaemia carriers among the students. Student’s demographic information was collected by using a questionnaire. Blood samples were collected to screen HBsAg along with Thalassaemia carriers. SPSS version 20 was used for data analysis. Results: During the study we found 5% HBV infection and 19.2% vaccination coverage for HBV. HBV infection was higher (8.9%) among graduate students (p=0.031), 22.5% among married students (p=0.001). Students having an HBV vaccine, not having sexual contact, and not having a history of surgery were less likely to have HBV infection with odds ratios (95% CI) of 9.396 (1.038-85.022), 48.268 (13.511-172.436) and 14.407 (3.86353.732) respectively. Conclusion: Absence of HBV vaccination, unsafe sexual contact and history of previous surgery are the major cause of HBV infection among university students. Students should be aware of HBV infection, and appropriate screening, as well as vaccination programs, should be launched in the universities of Bangladesh.","PeriodicalId":191133,"journal":{"name":"Clinical Immunology & Research","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116353526","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
