The article presents the analysis of methodological support for the implementation of practical works, theoretical aspects of their implementation, identified problems, violating principles of scientificity and consistency in studying specific topics of the cross-cutting course of geography in grades 6-11th. The analysis of the topics of practical works introduced in different grades has showed problems in the sequence and deepening of knowledge, especially in such topics of 11th grade as "Topography", "Atmosphere and Earth System", "Economy of Ukraine in the international division of labor". The methodological support for practical works is diverse and offered by all leading publishers of educational literature, but the structure and approaches to the formulation of content are radically different. Almost no attention is paid to modern methods of mastering geographical information. Based on the analysis of theoretical and practical aspects of works in 11th grade (standard level), the authors’ structure and content of such workshops have been proposed, the main differences are the variability of time and individualization of students' work.\u0000\u0000Conclusions and further research. The implementation of practical works creates favorable conditions for the development of students’ mental abilities and the creative approach to the teachers’ work. The current program in geography is mostly inconsistent with the principles of modern education, including scientificity, formation of the scientific picture of the world. However, methodological support for practical works does not allow us to implement the principles of individualization of educational process, time saving and prevention of students’ overload. The offered methodical developments for practical works in 11th grade allow us to implement the specified principles qualitatively. Further research should be aimed at scientific substantiation of methodological requirements for practical works and reduction of the cross-cutting system in them introduced in secondary education, to the logical structure on the principles of increasing scientificity, thoroughness, complexity, diversity, consistency.

One indicator that characterizes demographic processes is the demographic security indicator, which allows us to analyze the current situation, identifying prevailing processes, conducting a retrospective analysis to determine the possible status of the demographic situation in the future.\u0000The purpose of this article is an attempt to summarize the experience of determining demographic security level, designing its indicator, implementation of demographic security level on the materials of the Ukraine’s regions.\u0000The main material. The article gives an interpretation of the concept of «demographic security», defi ning its content. Various methodological approaches to its defi nition and groups of indicators and their content are presented in a simplified form, based on open statistics, an indicator of the level of demographic security. Considering demographic security as a system of parameters of natural and mechanical movement and population structure that allows us to respond eff ectively to internal and external threats for sustainable development of society and human life, the indicator of demographic security is a convenient indicator of assessment. In our opinion, it is advisable to use the following indicators in a simplifi ed form ,based on open statistics, to determine the level of demographic security: total population growth, fertility rate, mortality rate, natural growth rate, infant mortality rate, migration balance, demographic load, population aging. The demographic security indicator allows us to analyze the current situation, identify prevailing trends, conduct a retrospective analysis of the demographic security indicators of the region to determine the possible status of the demographic situation in the future.\u0000To compare the regions of Ukraine by the level of territorial diff erentiation of demographic security, a ranking method was chosen that uses an indicator of demographic security. The results of determining the level of demographic security and grouping regions of Ukraine by this indicator according to data from 2009, 2012, 2016 are presented.\u0000Conclusions and further research. Demographic security is the reproduction of the population in all its interconnections and social characteristics, infl uenced by the ability of demographic processes to respond to changes in the external and internal security environment. It is necessary to take into account the interconnections and interdependencies of the main components and factors of demographic security in order to solve the problems of improving the reproduction of quantitative and qualitative parameters of the population of Ukraine as a whole and of individual regions in particular. In times of rapid informatization of society and change of technology, the main task of the modern educational process should be to expanse and deepen intellectual abilities of an individual, to motivate and prepare a person for independent work with information fl ows, to develop critical thinking and creative skills. The usage of active teaching methods helps to achieve such goals. The methods of active teaching and learning have attracted the interest of teachers and other professionals in the fi eld of education. A large number of literary sources demonstrate the benefi ts of an active approach that engages students in the learning process and requires from them action more than observations; provides a deeper and more complete understanding of the subject.\u0000\u0000The purpose of this article is to analyze the usage of active teaching methods as a component of innovation in the educational process of geography teaching in general educational institutions.\u0000\u0000The main material. One of the fi rst commonly used and detailed methods of active teaching was the method of business games. Mary Birshtein was the author of the world’s fi rst business game. Active methods of teaching are ways to enhance the educational and cognitive activity of pupils, which encourage them to actively engage into intellectual and practical activity in the process of mastering the subject. Not only the teacher is active, but pupils are active as well.\u0000There are such special features of active teaching:\u0000– a purposeful activation of schoolchildren’s thinking;\u0000– enough time to engage pupils into the learning process, their activity must be sustainable and long-lasting;\u0000– an independent creative decision-making process, high degree of motivation and emotionality of schoolchildren;\u0000– a constant interaction of subjects of educational activity with the help of direct and feedback links, free exchange of thoughts on the ways of solving some problem.\u0000There are different approaches to the classification of active teaching methods. A. Smolkin conducted a classification based on the nature of educational and cognitive and gaming activities, due to which methods of active teaching are divided into imitation and non-imitation. There are also group and individual methods.\u0000There are various methods and forms of active teaching organization:\u0000– lectures (problem lectures, lectures-visualizations, lectures with pre-planned mistakes, lectures in form of press conferences, lectures-conversation, lectures-discussion, lectures with the analysis of specific situations);\u0000– different techniques of group work organization (training that targets students to the exchange of information such as brain attack);\u0000– different methods (discussion, game simulation, etc.).\u0000In the new educational process functions and roles of teachers and pupils during classes are changing. Many researchers distinguish the following roles of a teacher: the head; the facilitator; the mentor; the adviser; the organizer; t

This fully applies to geography. Images of the Earth from space are used in various activities: to assess crops, to establish the boundaries of a phenomenon, to determine the degree of contamination of land or ocean surfaces, to search for minerals, and so on. But in school geography, satellite images are used very rarely - for example, to prove the sphericity of the Earth or to show the view of each continent from space. The purpose of this article is to highlight the methods of using satellite images in geography lessons at school and to create tasks based on these means of training. Main material. The history of using satellite images in school geography has been considered in the article. Advantages and disadvantages of satellite images as training tools are also noted. The role of satellite images in the formation of geographical representations is highlighted by the authors. These images realistically depict many natural phenomena (atmospheric fronts, cyclones, dust storms, etc.). Therefore, as a means of visualization, they contribute to the formation of memory representations in schoolchildren. Examples of a number of satellite images show how they can be used in teaching geography. The article off ers a methodical way of the use of satellite images at diff erent stages of learning. These images can be used to explain the training material, repeat it, control knowledge, and so on. Satellite images can be used to solve cartographic tasks. As practice has shown, we can perform creative tasks based on images.\u0000Conclusions. Satellite images play an important role in the system of teaching geography. The use of satellite images allows us to improve the pupils’ interest in the subject. Satellite images form geographical memory representations create a visual image of the natural appearance of the Earth. The study of educational opportunities of the Earth’s images from space has revealed three groups of requirements: pedagogical, technical and specific, determined by the content of school geography. The teacher should select satellite images based on the content of educational tasks of school geography.

Main material is devoted to the analysis of the essence of regional diagnostics, highlighting its tasks and thematic blocks (sections), determining their structural and methodological relationships. Special attention is given to three groups of methods used in the diagnostic features of socio-economic development of the region – economic-statistical, sociological and graphic. Complex application of these methods allows us to display in a fairly complete form the spatial features of the socio-economic development of the region. They are the information basis for the regional policy in the development and implementation of programs, forecasts, concepts and strategies for the development of regions aimed at leveling their problem situations, improving the level and quality of life of society. Conclusions and further research. Diagnostics of socio-economic development can be considered an analytical research technology formed at the intersection of regional economy and socio-economic geography, associated with the identification of the state and level of development of the population and economy of the region. Based on a set of qualitative features and quantitative indicators, it is designed to identify and describe the specifics of the territory under considera tion, comparing it with other regions of the country. Regional diagnostics is of great applied importance, because using a variety of research methods, it determines the level of the territory development, identifies its problem areas, used for further development and implementation of necessary measures aimed at achieving the most optimal options for the development of the region in the near future, taking into account the available resources, prerequisites and factors. Prospects for further research in this subject area are associated with the construction of a universal system of indicators that will take into account the main features of the region to the most appropriate and valid extent.

The system of regional environmental and nature protection cartographic works of Kharkiv region includes 24 units of finished cartographic products, supplemented by hundreds of primary auxiliary maps serving as the basis for creating the resulting maps. The authors reveal the history of the creation of the first regional series of environmental maps in the USSR, published with the DSP stamp, the Directions of their use-in the process of planning environmental activities in the region until 1990 and their further use as a visual educational material.\u0000The structure and content of a separate environmental map, three series of maps and four environmental atlases are described. A separate comprehensive map provides an overview of the environmental conditions and nature protection in the region and is intended as a demonstration tool for regional organizations and as a reference guide for educational institutions. The basic series of maps provides an overall assessment of the ecological state and nature protection. A series of maps of dynamic and depositing components of the natural environment characterize deteriorating quality of atmospheric air and water, their environmental condition and protection measures. The maps provide information about the eco-environmental assessment of soils, vegetation and wildlife. Environmental and nature protection atlases of the region fully disclose the features of interaction in the “nature-society” system and are intended for specialists in the field of ecology and nature protection for educational purposes, promoting environmental knowledge.\u0000The development of interactive cartographic products on environmental issues, such as nature protection maps of Kharkiv region on the GeoMixer web GIS platform, is considered as a promising direction for the development of environmental cartography in the region.\u0000Conclusions and further research. The disciplines «Tourist geography of Ukraine», «Geography of tourism of Ukraine», «Geography of tourism», «Recreational geography», «Tourist local history» are basic in the cycle of professional training of specialists, bachelors of the specialty «Tourism». They often trace the use of the same conceptual apparatus, the rationale for various provisions, criteria that are the basis for regional zoning.\u0000The analysis and synthesis of the scientists’ approaches carried out by the author has found significant differences in identifying tourist and recreational regions, grouping of countries, typology, and gradations of taxonomic units. The proposed schemes of tourist regionalization of the territory of Ukraine and the world differ in their approaches to the substantiation of district-forming factors, and accordingly, the number, names and borders of the selected regions. Sometimes «liberties» are allowed in the definition and operation of the conceptual apparatus. This distinguishes informational presentation, causes confusion, time spending, not inducing the integrity of the world perception.\u0000\u0000Conclusions and further research. According to the experience of teaching these disciplines, the dependence of the quality of knowledge and skills of students on the degree of integration of the content, forms and methods of instruction has been revealed. The necessity to observe the spatial-geographical approach in regionalization is grounded. The proposed measures will be useful in the formation of future specialists’ competence based on the integration of academic disciplines. The practical signifi cance of this scientific problem is seen in the development of uniform standards for curricula and programs; methodological manuals and recommendations on integration issues in geographical education; respecting the paradigm in the preparation of textbooks and teaching aids, as well as in the process of teaching the relevant disciplines. The presented article briefly highlights the main problems of using modern information technologies, which are now crucial for economic development, effective management and improving the quality of life. One of the main features of GIS support and automation of land management is the wide range of field geodetic data processing. These include the ability to enter measurement data from paper media, as well as import from electronic storage devices or direct input of coordinates in real time.\u0000\u0000As part of the development of geoinformation mapping, it is advisable to allocate a separate area at the intersection of such sciences as geoinformatics, land management and land cadastre, as well as cartography - geoinformation mapping, the essence of which is the automated creation and use of maps as an integral part of land cadastre based on geoinformation technologies and land information geodatabases to solve large-scale problems.\u0000\u0000Modern electronic map as a means or tool of knowledge of the landscape of the Earth leads to the creation of secondary, i. e. model, geoinformation. Main material. The diagnosis of motives for studying geography was preceded by a clarification of the attitude of pupils to this subject. Pupils were asked to name their favourite school subjects and the results of the survey were used to calculate the rating of disciplines. For sixth-graders in rural and urban schools, geography ranked first, for seventh– and eighth-graders, and for rural ninth- and tenth-graders, it ranked second. For city ninth- and tenth-graders, geography took third place in the ranking of school subjects. The article presents the rating of school geography among other subjects on the basis of a questionnaire survey conducted in 2018/2019 academic year among 1163 respondents, who are the pupils of 6-11 grades at general educational institutions in Lviv region. The research analyzes positive and negative motivational factors of learning geography, depending on age and place of pupils’ residence. The results are interpreted in the context of the popular theory of self-determination developed by E. Deci and R. Ryan. Conclusions and further research. The research, conducted among the pupils studying geography at school, in a particular region of Ukraine, showed the highest rating of this subject among other school disciplines and the positive attitude towards it (more than 75% of the pupils who participated in the study). The degree of interest in geography is affected by the age of the pupils and the type of area in which the pupils live: the highest rank of favourable attitude to the subject was shown by rural pupils and pupils who are studying natural courses of the discipline (grades 6–7). The leading factors of a positive attitude to geography depend on the content of this subject and modern forms of studying it, which ultimately contributes to the formation of internal motivation for cognition. The results of an empirical study can be used to develop psychological, pedagogical and methodological models for teaching geography in different classes of general educational institutions.

This trend is due to the awareness of the importance of complex natural systems, arbitrarily called the natural environment, in relations with humanity. The relations have to become partnership ones, not aggressive ones. The science that deals closest with this problem is environmental geography.\u0000\u0000The importance of the territory as an integral resource of the society is stressed in the trends of sustainable development. It is considered not only as a necessary, though non-economic condition of existence, but as an economic object, that is natural capital. The latter requires a different attitude to itself than just the environment: inventory procedures (like other means of production), objective assessment, amortization, ever-increasing investment and economic transformation into the actual trend.\u0000\u0000 Intangible natural resources -the prospect of environmental geography. In this case, natural environment of the external conditions of human existence will become an essential and indispensable part of the global and national wealth of countries. Natural-resource rents should become a way of filling the gross domestic product at different levels of the society’s structuring (environmental economy).\u0000\u0000Along with material and energy resources, the value of intangible natural resources and relevant environmental management is significantly increasing, which environmental geography also should deal with.\u0000\u0000Conclusions and prospects. 1.
