In this work, the data collected by a GNSS receiver prototype mounted on a small aircraft are analyzed to retrieve soil moisture. Based on GNSS-R bi-static configuration, direct and reflected GPS signals were measured by a right hand (RHCP) and a left hand (LHCP) circular polarized antenna, respectively. The direct signal was used to calibrate the system. The soil moisture was retrieved from the power ratio of LHCP reflected SNR over RHCP direct SNR regardless of the surface roughness and incoherent components. A over-water calibration method was applied to improve the estimation accuracy. This growth of exportation of manufacturing systems increased costs of maintenance due to the requirement of sending technicians to the production site where the machine is installed. The strong spread of mobile devices and the increased quality of networks opened new horizons for maintenance and support services. The work presented in this paper describes a real application case and proposes an approach for using mobile internet devices (MID) on the production site for acquisition and transmission of multi-source information that can be used from service personnel to try to resolve issues from the vendor service center. However, automation can be achieved even by exploiting standard protocols in order to avoid or limit the use of proprietary solutions. The considered case study, related to the innovation of an oil refinery, illustrates a viable approach. Nevertheless, to find competitive solutions, we need an extended, wider panorama, by using new eyes. To grasp a more reliable representation of reality and to get stronger biological and physical system measurement and correlates, researchers and scientists need two intelligently articulated hands: both stochastic and combinatorial approaches synergically articulated by natural coupling. It is much better to consider ontological uncertainty as an emergent phenomenon out of a complex system, where the notion of anticipation can offer competitive computational solutions. Consequently, enterprises need to spot and analyze a big amount of digital data in order to improve their reputation among consumers. This work proposes a cloud-based big data sentiment analysis application for brand monitoring and analysis in social media streams. Enterprises can enhance their competitiveness satisfying consumers' needs and expectations exploiting our tool, detecting the sentiment of a tweet and how it influences people, when the author's popularity is taken into account. In these systems, the unevenly distributed power flow through the three-phases may even worsen due to single-phase connected DGs, causing voltage deviations and unbalance. In this paper, a control strategy for Low Voltage networks management is presented allowing the participation of DGs connected to the Low Voltage grid to the services required to manage the overall distribution system. The proposed control has been applied to a reference LV distribution network with the presence of inverter-interfaced DGs in a scenario with depleted power quality levels. In particular, they play an important role for the electrification of mobility due to their high power and energy density and therefore their battery lifetime prediction is a fundamental aspect for successful market introduction. The ageing data provided by the battery manufacturers result from standard ageing tests. For this reason, it is very important to link, in the way as simple as possible, the effect of driving cycles (urban, extra-urban, combined) with the ageing of the batteries. The aim of this work is to investigate on the effect of driving cycles on the batteries lifetime through tests performed on different cells for different kinds of cycle. Several types of airborne sensors - in the optical, infrared or millimeter wave spectrum - are available for the different platforms. Beside the all-weather suitability of the sensors, the deployment scenarios, often also demand for the ability to look through dust clouds, smoke, and fog. The only sensor, which is capable to cope with such environmental restrictions and is able to deliver high-resolution images, is the synthetic aperture radar (SAR). In this paper we focus on miniaturized SAR systems which were developed and optimized for utilization in a UA V (unmanned aerial vehicle) with a low loading capacity. This not only requires a compact and light radar sensor but the processing also has to cope with the unstable flight conditions of a small aircraft. Therefore, a high-precision inertial measurement unit (IMU) and motion compensating SAR-algorithms are needed. Thanks to the utilization of a high transmit frequency of either 35 GHz or 94 GHz, the sensors are suitable for the detection of small-scale objects.
