However, unstable conditions of the automated system can cause serious problem, thus the automated vehicle requires high reliability. The objective of this research is to develop algorithms of fault (unstable condition) detection for automated vehicles, and to improve the overall reliability of the system. In this study, we initially solved and updated identification of some pattern of data constellations under normal and unstable conditions through the experiments in a real world. The multiple experiments were done in the public area (course distance is about 1.1[km]) with some times, where some pedestrian, bicycles and other robots coexisted. The method of detecting faults utilizes mahalanobis distance, correlation coefficient and linearization in order to improve the reliability of detecting the faults correctly, because real experimental conditions include some random noises, and the method must be robust for the changing conditions. The feature of this study is to utilize the experiment results in real world, construct the algorithms and evaluate it. The simulations were done with the real experimental data, in order to evaluate it. The simulation result shows that the proposed system detects faults correctly, and it proves the validity of the proposed method proved.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116205835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Those systems are either operating or not and even if some of them succeeded, they still need improvement. As optimization and dynamicity are the most lacking aspects, we are interested in setting up an optimized dynamic carpool service. This problem's high complexity constitutes a big handicap through the way to perform efficient process. Consequently, it is here addressed based on a decentralized parallel requests' process and a distributed architecture is adopted. In this context, we propose a subdivision principle in order to decompose the served network and establish a Distributed Dynamic Graph. The latter models the available information about passengers and drivers and helps to establish a distributed parallel process. In addition, the multi-agent concept has been adopted to set up an automated framework where several communicating entities evolve and perform requests' management.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116762077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The safety performance is evaluated by microscopic traffic simulator in a mixed environment of the three types vehicles(system equipped vehicle with communication and sensor devices, system equipped vehicle with only communication devices, and vehicle without driving assistance system). The result of simulation indicates that when the half of vehicle which has communication function equips an external sensing function, the safety performance of the driving assistance system in the fusion network of inter-vehicle communication and in-vehicle external sensors rises up than that in the conventional inter-vehicle network which only shares the in-vehicle running information. Especially, it greatly improves the safety of the vehicle with only communications equipment.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116423603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the agent architectures used for these problems, agents collaborate by working with a common pool of solutions, creating, modifying, or destroying solutions in this pool. It has been posited that “adept destruction can compensate for inept construction” in these optimization systems [1]. This paper proposes a Selective Solution Pool Pruning agent that manages the diversification and intensification of the agent search process. This agent is instantiated for a system that is designed to optimize the TRND problem for a de facto benchmark transit network. The optimization system results show the Selective Solution Pool Pruning agent provides an effective means for managing the search process.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124197681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this framework, the tracking target point of the following train is moving forward with its leading train. This paper focuses on the energy saving tracking control of two successive trains in MBS. Nonlinear programming method is used to optimize the energy saving speed trajectory of the following train. The real-time location of the leading train could be integrated into the optimization process. Due to simplicity, it can be used for online implementation. Finally, a smoothing algorithm is proposed to improve the speed trajectory for ride comfort. The feasibility and effectiveness are verified through simulation. The results show that the new method is efficient on energy saving with guaranteed ride comfort even when disturbances present.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124725616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a near collision situation many drivers try to avoid the obstacle by steering; however, there are many instances that they cannot perform a successful avoidance maneuver, since some may steer too much and go off the road, and others may not steer enough and collide with the obstacle. This paper first briefly introduces the Curve-Fitting Estimation Model (CFEM), which is one of the typical methods using GPS data to estimate the traffic flow state. After that, it is detailedly analyzed how many probe vehicles the CFEM requires in order to ensure enough estimated accuracy. Furthermore, a sample size algorithm is developed to calculate the minimum sample size of the CFEM. In the algorithm, the road type, the length of road section, and sample frequency are taken into account. Finally, the proposed algorithm of sample size analysis are tested by the experiments using the data collected from the road network of the whole center region of Shanghai.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121381294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three criteria are aggregated using an alternative way. The first two criteria refer to total delay dealing with two types of users with conflicting preferences: private vehicles and public transport vehicles. The third one (number of stops for private vehicles) aims at capturing pollution aspects. We propose a new mixed integer linear programming (MILP) formulation. Unlike most proposed MILP dealing with traffic light control problems, our main variables are traffic light switchover dates, during a time horizon. This permits a significant reduction of the number of variables. In order to take account of the traffic, we integrate this model within an interactive scheme, where information on the traffic is used periodically for adapting the control.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121382612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to face such challenge, this work exploits some developments on statistical machine learning theory, in particular structural risk minimization (SRM) in a cascade ensemble. Namely, the ensemble applies the principle of SRM on a set of linear support vector machines (SVM). The linear SVM complexity, in the Vapnik sense, is controlled by choosing the dimension of the feature space in each cascade stage. To support experimental analysis, a multi-sensor dataset constituted by data from a LIDAR, a monocular camera, an IMU, encoder and a DGPS is introduced in this paper. The dataset, named Laser and Image Pedestrian Detection (LIPD) dataset, was collected in an urban environment, at day light conditions, using an electrical vehicle driven at low speed. Labeled pedestrians and non-pedestrians samples are also available for benchmarking purpose. The cascade of SVMs, trained with image-based features (HOG and COV descriptors), is used to detect pedestrian evidences on regions of interest (ROI) generated by a LIDAR-based processing system. Finally, the paper presents experimental results comparing the performance of a Boosting-SVM cascade and the proposed SRM-SVM cascade classifiers, in terms of detection errors.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121418969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
