The DS/SS scheme is an attractive technique for the IVC system because it has advantages for CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) capability and so on. However, the near-far problem is occurred in the DS/SS scheme. Shadowing the radio paths by large vehicles is also significant problem for the IVC system. To solve those problems, a LMS (Least Mean Square) adaptive circular array antenna is proposed. The array antenna can be controlled its directivity when the receiving vehicle knows the information of the target vehicle. The PER (Packet Error Rate) and the throughput performances are evaluated. And the performances are compared with the ordinary system by using omini-directional antenna. From the simulation results, the adaptive circular array antenna is effective for the near-far problem and influence of shadowing in the DS/SS TVC system.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"215 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121278099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system is able to ingest data from different sources, while providing updated speed and traffic flow measurements, travel time estimates and statistical aggregations of current traffic conditions in real-time to the user. The application is powered by IBM Infosphere Streams, which enables it to easily scale to hundreds of thousands of data points processed per second, while maintaining sub-second delay from data acquisition to delivery. In this work we provide an overview of the analytics and the application architecture used to deliver the required capabilities.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122278663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The safety performance is evaluated by microscopic traffic simulator in a mixed environment of the three types vehicles(system equipped vehicle with communication and sensor devices, system equipped vehicle with only communication devices, and vehicle without driving assistance system). The result of simulation indicates that when the half of vehicle which has communication function equips an external sensing function, the safety performance of the driving assistance system in the fusion network of inter-vehicle communication and in-vehicle external sensors rises up than that in the conventional inter-vehicle network which only shares the in-vehicle running information. Especially, it greatly improves the safety of the vehicle with only communications equipment.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116423603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are also great needs in trajectory analysis and scene modeling so that to provide higher knowledge to surveillance and ITS application for decision making. However in crowded environment, trajectory data sets obtained through online processing contain many broken, group and fragment ones, which degrades trajectory quality, affect the performance in trajectory analysis and scene modeling. A trajectory processing algorithm is developed in this research on a multi-laser sensing system that was developed in our previous work. It contains a trajectory association algorithm, where an interaction graph is built to represent the relationships of trajectories; a graph-based trajectory labeling algorithm; and an EM-based trajectory parameter optimization algorithm. Experiments are conducted using the data collected at an intersection in Beijing with promising results demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124321167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Governments usually make investment decisions based on these aspects. In the field of ITS tools exist for the separate parts of this analysis, but an integrated tool that combines impact assessment, cost benefit analysis and business modelling is lacking. A crucial step in such an integrated tool is scaling up: translating small scale traffic effects to large scale societal benefits. Traffic effects are usually determined in an experiment, for example a Field Operational Test or micro simulation, for scenarios limited in time and geographical scale. A societal cost benefit analysis demands results on for example country or EU level, for a whole year. In practice little attention is paid to the methodology for scaling up. In the European project ITS Test Beds TNO has developed a practical methodology for scaling up, integrating the tools for micro simulation and cost benefit analysis using statistics. Another way of scaling up small scale traffic effects is using macro simulation. This paper describes the problems that play a role in scaling up, and works out the two mentioned scaling up methods. An illustration of scaling up with statistics is given with a case study on Speed Alert.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"305 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124349643","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem usually involves a truck dispatching system in which decisions on truck assignments and destinations are taken in real-time. Due to its significance, several decision systems for material transportation in open-pit mining have been developed in the last few years, improving productivity and reducing operational costs. This paper presents a single-dependent agent approach based on Time-dependent Markov Decision Processes (TiMDPs) to model the truck dispatching problem in an example mine. The uncertainty is present in the model as stochastic path selections by the truck driver. Simulations are executed using the SimEvents™framework, and the results compared to other dispatching heuristics commonly used in the mining industry show the superiority of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124369964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Failures in the system limit its availability and have direct impact on the total cost of ownership (TCO) through additional maintenance costs. Therefore, availability parameters are often subject of contracts (so called Service Level Agreements (SLAs)) between system owners, maintenance contractors, and component vendors. With the growing complexity of such systems by means of multi-vendor environments consisting of various subsystems and components interconnected over numerous levels of hierarchy, enforcement of these agreements is getting a complex task. Therefore, advanced SLA enactment strategies are necessary, which include appropriate concepts that support the mapping of low-level resource metrics like the up- and down-time of a particular component to high-level application specific SLA-parameters (such as system availability). In this paper, we show the application of the LoM2HiS framework as an example technology for the automatic enforcement of availability SLAs in the field of TMS. We discuss possible SLAs for TMS and the required adoptions to the framework in order to meet the application-specific needs. Finally, we present first simulation results.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127907190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The wheel speed measurements are subject to noise with time-varying covariance that depends mainly on the road surface. The novelty lies in a Bayesian approach to estimate online the time-varying radii and noise parameters using a marginalized particle filter, where no model approximations are needed such as in previously proposed algorithms based on the extended Kalman filter. Field tests show that the absolute radius can be estimated with millimeter accuracy, while the relative wheel radius on one axle is estimated with submillimeter accuracy.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114901699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lack of reliable sensors able to fulfill the requirements for road safety applications leads to the necessity of combining them to create a fusion procedure able to overcome the limitations of a single set of sensors. Recent advances in vision based pedestrian detection have lead to robust approaches able to detect pedestrians in a wide variety of situations. On the other hand laser scanners have proved to be a very powerful tool when dealing with intelligent transport systems and safety application. By combining the capabilities of both set of sensors, a robust and trustworthy application able to deal with the most exigent necessities can be created. The presented algorithm combines the pedestrian detection given by both subsystems adding confidence to single sensor detections.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117220471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Where Dynamic Traffic Management aims to more efficiently use existing road capacity by generic measures, Microscopic Dynamic Traffic Management anticipates suboptimal use of the available infrastructure by disturbing behavior of one or a few drivers. Using simulation, anticipation of slow predecessors in the same lane and anticipation of slow merging vehicles from an on-ramp are assessed on throughput, average travel time loss and traffic flow stability. The simulation results show positive effects, mainly on traffic flow stability, but also on throughput and travel time in the case of anticipating slow merging vehicles.","PeriodicalId":186596,"journal":{"name":"2011 14th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC)","volume":"179 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132435082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
