There were 7 analysed and evaluated water environment parameters, including water temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), salinity, pH, alkalinity, chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrite (N-NO2), with monitoring frequency of 2 times/month, 10 months/year at 13 monitoring locations for brackish water shrimp farming in 6 provinces: Nam Dinh, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien Hue. Water temperature was low at the beginning of the year, gradually increased to the highest level in June, then gradually decreased to the end of the year. The temperature fluctuated strongly at the beginning and end of the year and tended to increase gradually from the North to the South. DO tended to decrease from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. Salinity was lower in the rainy season, especially in Nghe An and Quang Tri, compared to the others. The pH and alkalinity levels were suitable for brackish shrimp farming. COD in Ha Tinh and Nam Dinh, NO2 in Nam Dinh were often high, indicating that the supply water was contaminated with organic matter and needed a long-term solution.","PeriodicalId":18650,"journal":{"name":"Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139159669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research method: Retrospective and prospective cross-sectional description combined with case description. Results: Research on 3223 children who performed the newborn heel blood screening test from September 2022 to September 2023 showed that the high-risk rate of G6PD enzyme deficiency in boys is significantly higher than in girls. The difference is statistically significant when comparing the proportion of neonates with high-risk screening results in the Muong ethnic group and other ethnic minorities compared to the Kinh ethnic group (p<0.01). Between different sampling age groups and different weight groups, the proportion of children with enzyme activity at the high-risk threshold for G6PD enzyme deficiency did not have a statistically significant difference (p>0.05). The mutation encountered in the study was G6PD Union (c.1360C>T) (p.Arg454Cys), the enzyme activity decreased by <10% corresponding to the level of class II enzyme deficiency, showing mild hemolysis and no severe consequences in infancy. Conclusion: Children's gender and ethnicity are related to enzyme activity at risk thresholds for G6PD enzyme deficiency. Studying the correlation between genotype and phenotype is of great significance in genetic counselling, predicting prognosis and managing G6PD enzyme deficiency.","PeriodicalId":18650,"journal":{"name":"Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139158030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent studies have identified a new hookworm species - Ancylostoma ceylanicum, which typically parasitises in dogs. To determine the prevalence of these three hookworm species: A. duodenale, A. ceylanicum, and N. americanus, nested PCR and gene sequencing were employed in fecal samples from suspected individuals residing in Thanh Binh commune, Tan Bien district, Tay Ninh province. Larvae were collected and identified by morphology before 65 DNA samples were extracted and analysed using molecular biology techniques. Results showed that 67.7% (44/65) of the samples were infected with N. americanus, while 16.9% (11/65) and 1.6% (1/65) were infected with A. ceylanicumand A. duodenale, respectively. Co-infection was present in 13.8% of cases, with A. ceylanicum and N. americanus being the most common combination. The origin of the N. americanus species identified was found to be closely related to that reported in Malaysia, while A. ceylanicum was more closely related to the species reported in Thailand. In conclusion, the study found that the new hookworm species A. ceylanicum was more prevalent than the traditional species A. duodenale in Thanh Binh commune (95.2 vs 4.8% of hookworm infections).","PeriodicalId":18650,"journal":{"name":"Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139159958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
